Children's Center BoardProvides direction to operation of the A.S. operated children's center. This Board focuses on fund raising and public relations projects that benefit the Center, regularly organizing service projects for the program, and supporting parent-teacher relationships. Cultural Arts and Special Events Board (CASE)Proposes, plans, publicizes, and coordinates entertainment events and activities throughout the year. These programs are oriented to unite the campus community, with the opportunity to explore new and different ideas, be informative and educational-and provide entertainment. CASE coordinates celebrity lectures, concerts, cultural activities, and special events like Homecoming and Spring Fiesta. Elections CommitteeOrganizes and administers all aspects of A.S. Elections including enforcement of the Election Code, poll sites, establishing ballot positions and penalties. External Affairs BoardMonitors higher education issues at local, statewide and national levels. This Board allows for involvement in policy development within the California State University system through participation in the California State Student Association. In addition, the board advocates student positions on legislative and social justice matters. Finance BoardDetermines spending priorities, allocates A.S. funds to various programs and provides general oversight of the $15 million annual A.S. Budget. Participation on this Board entails reviewing all budget requests for student organizations and A.S. programs and recommending the annual budget to the A.S. Council. Facilities BoardProvides direction on issues pertaining to Student Union fees, office space allocations, and user fees. The board establishes policy and deliberates all other matters which affect A.S.'s leased and operated facilities. It plans for future development of A.S. Facilities including the Aztec Center, the Open Air Theater, Aztec Recreation Center and the Cox Arena at Aztec Bowl. Graduate Student AssociationThe purpose of the Graduate Student Association (GSA) is to represent Associated Students regarding programmatic, policy and campus life needs of post-baccalaureate and graduate students (master's, doctoral, and credential program) on the SDSU campus. The GSA plans and coordinates programming relevant to the graduate student experience at the University, including new graduate students' transitioning experience to the campus, professional development opportunities during the course of their graduate program, and relationship with the University after graduation, from the perspective of Associated Students and consistent with the University's mission and goals. The GSA advocates graduate students' issues and perspectives concerning how the graduate student community might be affected by university policies, services, programs and/or facilities. The Multi-Cultural CaucusThe Multi-Cultural Caucus (MCC) is the official board of the Associated Students of San Diego State University to advance and monitor the further development of programs and policies regarding the maintenance and enhancement of the diversity within Associated Students and San Diego State University. It is the purpose of this Caucus is to advise the AS Council on all related policy matters and to undertake progressive efforts to promote diversity through education, communication, and action within Associated Students; to ensure that operations of the Associated Students and other pertinent policy-making entities involving diversity are monitored by students; and to ensure that all action taken by the Associated Students reflects the diverse needs of all of its constituents. Recreation BoardRegulates A.S. Campus Recreation and Mission Bay Aquatic Center programs. The Recreation Board sets policy, and develops and monitors recreational and leisure programs and budgets. Campus Recreation programs include the Aztec Recreation Center, intramural sports, leisure classes, craft studios, sport clubs, equipment rental services and Aztec Center Bowling and Games. Rules CommitteeAssists the A.S. Council in the maintenance, interpretation and updating of the internal structural policies of the A.S. This committee also reviews any grievances or complaints brought against any Council or board member related to ethics, conduct or bylaws. University Affairs BoardCoordinates student involvement in the research and development of university policy affecting SDSU students on the campus and local community levels. The Board allows for the involvement in the University Senate, which includes participation in such university-related areas as academic policy and planning, budgeting, student affairs, grievances, financial aid, and campus development. Advisory BoardsCareer Services Student Advisory BoardAssists the Office of Career Services by making recommendations regarding policies and programs which assist students in career development and placement. It sponsors several workshops and career fairs. Counseling & Psychological Services Student Advisory BoardAssists in communicating the goals and activities of the Center for Counseling and Psychological Services to the campus community and determining priorities for the Center's enhancement. Cross Cultural Center Advisory BoardAssists and supports the Cross Cultural Center in an advisory capacity, specifically reviewing and making recommendations regarding policies, programs and procedures to encourage and promote the Center's goals. It assists in the communication of the goals and activities of the Center to the campus community, while presenting student concerns and assisting in identifying trends. Student Activities and Campus Life Advisory BoardServe as the advisory board representing the student voice as they work with SACL staff to periodically review SACL policies, procedures and services as they relate to the educational mission of the University. Works with SACL management to present student concerns related to SACL. Develop collaborative programs between the Associated Students and the Student Activities and Campus Life to meet the needs of SDSU students and encourage student participation in programs and activities of the Associated Students and the Student Activities and Campus Life. Keep the Associated Students informed of student issues related to the Student Activities and Campus Life. Student Disability Services Student Advisory BoardReviews and makes recommendations regarding policies, programs and procedures to encourage and promote the Disabled Student Service's goals. This group also assists in communicating the board's goals and activities to the campus community. Student Health Advisory BoardActively participates in the selection of new physicians at Student Health Services, provides critical oversight of the student health care programs and monitors the university's health fees. Students who wish to take an active role in many campus health-related programs on campus are encouraged to become members. University Boards & AuthoritiesCommunications AuthorityAdvises the University President on the public service, administrative, financial and philosophical relationship between San Diego State University
and student-run print/broadcast media. It represents the mutual interests of the University community in the development of publications, radio, and
other media services for the educational and informational benefit of students, faculty and staff of San Diego State University, and the general public. Senate CommitteesAcademic Policy and PlanningConsiders and makes recommendations to the Senate concerning issues of academic philosophy, standards, and conduct, as well as, faculty-student relations, the governance of the University, and other matters of academic policy. Academic Resources and PlanningMakes recommendations to the Senate concerning the allocation of University resources. The Committee shall act as the deliberative body of the Senate on all issues pertaining to, but not limited to, University budgets, allocation of facilities and positions, and allocation of special funds. Bookstore Advisory CommitteeImproves the relationship between the faculty and the Aztec Shops Campus Store by reviewing Campus Store policies, textbook requisitions, sales data, and custom course packets. The Committee shall be especially sensitive to specific problems and complaints that are brought to its attention in writing. Campus Development CommitteeRepresents the University community in all deliberations and decisions regarding major aspects of campus development. The committee shall review the Campus Master Plan and Five-year Capital Outlay Program at least annually and shall report to the Senate on the status of these items in September. The committee may also propose changes on its own initiative and shall report to the Senate such recommendations. Constitution & BylawsReviews the Constitution and Bylaws of the Senate and recommends changes. It reports its recommendations concerning proposed amendments, maintains the Faculty Handbook, and considers revision of the list of committees and functions. Diversity, Equity & OutreachSupports university-wide programs for the recruitment and retention of protected groups, subject to the approval of the President. It advises the University administration regarding Diversity, Equal Employment Opportunities, Outreach, and related matters. Environment & SafetyStudies, advises, and reports to the Senate and administration on matters relating to the safety, health, and learning conditions in the campus environment. The Committee shall investigate problems, including but not limited to: health, hazardous materials and waste, safety, emergency preparedness, matters of excessive noise or traffic, and other matters that detrimentally impact upon the campus environment and learning conditions. Faculty Honors and Awards CommitteeResponsible for nominations of faculty to the following honors and awards: Emeritus status, CSU Academic Senate Outstanding Professor Award, Alumni Award for Outstanding Faculty Contribution to the University, and such other honors and awards as the Senate from time to time shall designate. Freedom of ExpressionWill advise the President on the regulation and management of campus activities that fall under the university's freedom of expression policy, and will receive, evaluate, and act on complaints regarding freedom of expression activities. General EducationCoordinates General Education policies and their implementation and reviews and evaluates current and proposed courses for General Education. Graduate CouncilDelegates University-wide jurisdiction over all matters relating to graduate studies including the development of University-wide policy on graduate programs, graduate student affairs, graduate research and scholarship, and the participation of faculty in graduate programs. Instructional Technology CommitteeAssists the Director of Media Technology Services in developing a long-range master plan for media resources. It reviews and makes recommendations on the mission and services of the center, as well as, on pertinent annual reports and budgets. It initiates recommendations for policy changes in instructional development and media systems at campus and system levels. International Programs CouncilMakes recommendations on policies and procedures to enhance the University's international activities and identifies existing areas of involvement in international activities and related resource commitments. It reports on funding programs and opportunities for external support of international activities. Liberal Studies CommitteeDevelops policy, program, and curricular proposals for recommendation to the Senate and reviews all policy and curriculum proposals developed elsewhere that affect the Liberal Studies program. The Committee shall consult with deans of colleges and with other standing committees of the Senate regarding recommendations in preparing its proposals. Library CommitteeAdvises the administration of the University and the Senate on matters related to allocation of all book and periodical funds and formulation and revision of Library policies and programs. Staff Affairs CommitteeConsiders staff problems as they are related to Senate functions and selects staff members to serve on Senate and University committees as requested. It considers additional issues at the direction of the Senate or its Executive Committee. Student Affairs CommitteeReviews items of mutual interest to faculty and students and makes recommendations to the Vice President for Student Affairs, the Dean of Undergraduate Studies or the Dean of the Graduate Division and Vice President for Research. It reviews and recommends policies and procedures for the administration of financial aid programs. Student Grievance CommitteeHears and seeks redress of student grievances concerning individual members of the faculty, administration, or staff, and when appropriate, makes recommendations concerning disciplinary action. SustainabilityWill study and make recommendations to improve sustainable practices on campus, receive CSU or other instructions to the campus dealing with sustainability, serve as a resource for faculty wishing to undertake research or propose curriculum in sustainability, and coordinate with other appropriate committees on campus to ensure that sustainability is taken into consideration in their deliberations. Undergraduate CouncilAdvises the Dean of the Division of Undergraduate Studies and proposes changes in policy dealing with undergraduate programs. It supervises specific University-wide undergraduate programs. Undergraduate Curriculum CommitteeRepresents the faculty in all matters pertaining to the undergraduate curriculum and formulates opinions concerning changes. It also has the authority to propose changes on its own initiative. It reports to the faculty via the Senate, in writing, its findings and recommendations or criticisms in relevant curriculum matters. |
