JUDICIAL AFFAIRS COUNCIL MINUTES

Friday, April 10, 2015 – 8:00 AM

I. CALL TO ORDER

A.S. Chief Justice Kiana Caton called the meeting to order at 8:09 AM in Visionary Suite at the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union.

II. ROLL CALL

A. Voting Members Present: Kiana Caton, Sergio Cisneros, Brenna Culliton, Sarah Nohrden.

B. Voting Members Absent: Jacob Grant, Erik Tamiyasu.

C. Non-Voting Members Present: Jennifer Esquivel-Parker.

D. Non-Voting Members Absent: Lee Mintz.

E. Visitors Present: None.

III. MODIFICATIONS TO AGENDA:

It was moved and seconded to approve the agenda for today’s meeting.

CISNEROS/CULLITON

It was moved and seconded to move the Selection for Appointment and Review Committee to proceed the Appointments and Resignations Memo under Action.

CISNEROS/NOHRDEN CARRIED, (3-0-0)

The agenda was approved as amended.

IV. PUBLIC COMMENT:

None.

V. APPROVAL OF PREVIOUS MINUTES

It was moved and seconded to approve the previous minutes, as attached.

VI. CHAIR’S REPORT:

None.

VII. INFORMATION

A. Current Attendance & Duties Report: The attendance and duties report was reviewed.

B. Referendum Update: A meeting to approve the Referendum will be next Wednesday, 4/15 at 7 AM.

C. Bylaw Amendments, 1st Reading: The Judicial Affairs Council had their first reading of the bylaw amendments submitted by the Aztec Student Union Board and the Sustainability/Green Love Commission. After reading over these amendments, the members discussed.

VIII. ACTION

A. Hearing Outcomes:

1. Megan Sealy: The Judicial Affairs Council asked Megan to contact Kalani and get a signed form from him.

2. Jose Muguerza: It was moved and seconded to issue one reprimand to Jose Muguerza for not completing his tabling requirement for the fall semester.

CULLITON/CISNEROS CARRIED, (3-0-0)

3. Sam Beltran: Kiana will reach out to Sam to meet with him to let him know the conditions of not meeting his Last Chance Alternative. If he fails to comply by the next JAC meeting, Sam will be removed as the Recreation and Wellness Representative on Campus Life Council.

B. Selection for Appointments and Review Committee: Sarah Nohrden was chosen to serve on the Appointments and Review Committee as the Judicial Affairs Council Representative, for the Judicial Affairs Council interviews.

C. Appointments and Resignations: It was moved and seconded to approve the appointments and resignations memo from both 3/27 and 4/10, as attached.

CISNEROS/CULLITON

A friendly amendment was made to add Sarah Nohrden to the Appointments and Review Committee as the Judicial Affairs Council Representative and Tyler Morgan as a Community Member to the Aztec Shops.

The appointments and resignations memo was approved as amended. CARRIED, (3-0-0)

D. Requests for Excused Absences: It was moved and seconded to table the requests for excused absences from both 3/27 and 4/10 to the next Judicial Affairs Council meeting on 4/17, as attached.

E. Elections Committee Minutes: None.

F. Awards Committee Minutes: None.
