JUDICIAL AFFAIRS COUNCIL MINUTES

Friday, March 20, 2015 – 8:00 AM

Visionary Suite • Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union

I. CALL TO ORDER

A.S. Chief Justice Kiana Caton called the meeting to order at 8:07 AM in Visionary Suite at the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union.

II. ROLL CALL

A. Voting Members Present: Kiana Caton, Sergio Cisneros, Brenna Culliton, Sarah Nohrden, Erik Tamiyasu, Jacob Grant.

B. Voting Members Absent: None.

C. Non-Voting Members Present: Lee Mintz, Jennifer Esquivel-Parker.

D. Non-Voting Members Absent: None.

E. Visitors Present: Sarah Katularu, Tyler Gording, Erik Palonsky, Kristina Brown, Alex Johnstone.

III. MODIFICATIONS TO AGENDA:

It was moved and seconded to approve the agenda for today’s meeting.

CISNEROS/NORHDEN

A friendly amendment was made to make the Elections Committee Minutes the first action item and to add Public Comment to the agenda. There were no objections.

The agenda was approved as amended. CARRIED, (5-0-0)

IV. PUBLIC COMMENT:

None.

V. APPROVAL OF PREVIOUS MINUTES

It was moved and seconded to approve the partial Judicial Affairs Council minutes from 3/6, 3/13, and the unofficial minutes from 3/18, as attached.

VI. CHAIR’S REPORT:

1. Thank you to everyone for all their hard work on both elections and the referendum process. It was clarified that Brenna will attend BOD on Monday.

VII. INFORMATION

A. Current Attendance & Duties Report: The attendance and duties report was reviewed.

B. JAC Vacancy: Kiana announced that position will be posted next week and applications will be due the week of April 6, with interviews the weekend of April 11.

C. Elections and Referendum Updates: It was determined that JAC will meet Wednesday at 8 am to approve elections results.

VIII. ACTION

A. Elections Committee Minutes: It was moved and seconded to approve the Elections Committee minutes of 3/6, and 3/19 3:30 pm, as attached.

GRANT/TAMIYASU CARRIED, (5-0-0)

B. Hearings for members who have not completed all their duties and/or exceed the number of absences allowed: Alex Johnstone addressed the Council. Kristina Brown resigned from her position. Kiana is going to follow-up on getting statements from Jose Muguerza, Megan Sealy, Tyler Aguilar and Sam Beltran. Action will be taken next week and copies of the letters they were sent will be included in next week’s packet.

C. Appointments and Resignations: It was moved and seconded to approve the appointments and resignations memo, as attached.
