JUDICIAL AFFAIRS COUNCIL MINUTES

Friday, September 5, 2014 – 8:00 AM

Presidential Suite • Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union

I. CALL TO ORDER

A.S. Chief Justice Kiana Caton called the meeting to order at 8:01 AM in Presidential Suite at the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union.

II. ROLL CALL

A. Voting Members Present: Kiana Caton, Sergio Cisneros, Brenna Culliton, Jacob Grant, Sarah Nohrden, Erik Tamiyasu, Dillon McLean.

B. Voting Members Absent:None.

C. Non-Voting Members Present: Lee Mintz, Jennifer Esquivel-Parker.

D. Non-Voting Members Absent: None.

E. Visitors Present: Kevin Hancock, Megan Goodman.

III. MODIFICATION OF AGENDA:

It was moved and seconded to modify and approve the agenda for today’s meeting.

IV. APPROVAL OF PREVIOUS MINUTES

It was moved and seconded to approve the Judicial Affairs Council minutes from 8/29/14, as attached.

V. INFORMATION:

A. Megan Goodman, the Green Love Sustainability Commissioner explained why she is requesting a Last Chance Alternative. The JAC will act upon the proposal at next week’s meeting.

B. The JAC Vice Chair will be selected at next week’s JAC meeting.

VI. ACTION

A. Proposed Bylaw Amendments:

1. Legislative Process Amendment: It was moved and seconded to approve the Legislative Procedures Amendment, as attached.

2. Executive Committee Amendment:

It was moved and seconded to approve the Executive Committee amendment, which an amendment to change "special taskforce" to "ad-hoc committees," as attached.

3. Grievance Process Amendment:

It was moved and seconded to approve the Grievance Process Amendment, with placement of section in Judicial Affairs Council 3.03, as attached.

B. Appointments and Resignations:

It was moved and seconded to approve the appointments and resignations memo, as attached, with the addition of Chad Karczewski’s resignation from the A.S. Board of Directors.

C. Requests for Excused Absences:

1.It was moved and seconded to strike the request for an excused absence from Chad Karczewski for missing the ASBOD meeting on 8/11/2014, copy attached.

2. It was moved and seconded to approve the request for an excused absence from Maxwell Louie for missing the A.S. Leader’s Retreat on 8/17-19/2014, copy attached.

3. Chief Justice Kiana Caton approved the request for an excused absence from Erik Tamiyasu for missing the A.S. Leader’s Retreat on 8/17-19/2014, copy attached.
