Aztec Lanes Maintenance Lead Job Description

Under the direction of the Aztec Lanes Coordinator, the Aztec Lanes Maintenance Lead will follow through on the below mentioned responsibilities. Becoming an integral member of a hard working team of full-time and part-time staff within the Aztec Student Union, the Maintenance Lead should possess the ability to work independently and as a team member. The Aztec Lanes Maintenance Lead will be responsible for maintaining bowling lanes, pinsetters, and general Aztec Lanes maintenance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary Functions

  • Responsible for all aspects of maintaining bowling lanes, pinsetters, lane maintenance machine, scoring equipment and all other related mechanical components
  • Performs regular servicing and preventative maintenance procedures on all equipment
  • Inspects and diagnoses deficiencies in equipment and/or operations
  • Cleans, repairs, and adjusts automatic scoring equipment
  • Identifies replacement parts and supplies
  • Assists in training part-time student staff on minor repairs
  • Cover the front desk when other staff members are unavailable.
  • Maintain knowledge of current events and general information regarding Aztec Lanes.
  • Clean and maintain lane conditions daily.
  • Work closely with Aztec Lanes attendants to order and maintain lanes supplies.
  • Becomes an important member in the Emergency Action Plan, if an incident were to occur
  • Attends and participates in regular staff meetings to ensure quality control and training
  • Assists with other relevant duties as assigned

Customer Service and Collaboration

  • Establishes and maintains working relationships with various A.S. and University departments

Safety

  • Ensures all operations are conducted with safety of staff and customers as first priority, and in accordance with the Injury and Illness Prevention Plan and other safety policies
  • Adheres to Associated Students’ Code of Safe Practices
  • Reports accidents to supervisor and reviews changes required to avoid reoccurrence
  • Ensures completion proper documentation is completed for each accident (employee and/or non-employee) and forwards to supervisor
  • Reports maintenance problems and/or broken and unsafe equipment to the appropriate party immediately

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum & Preferred Requirements

Education:

  • Must be currently enrolled at San Diego State University, taking a minimum of 6 units
  • Work Study applicants preferred

Experience:

  • Minimum 6 months employment with the Aztec Student Union required
  • Proficient knowledge of Aztec Lanes operations and Aztec Student Union programs, facilities, and policies required
  • Knowledge and/or participation of Aztec Recreation programs and facilities preferred

Licenses & Certifications:

  • First Aid and CPR/AED certifications are required

Trainings to be completed within 30 days of hire:

  • Gender Awareness
  • Anti-Harassment for Supervisors

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

  • Must be able to work independently and complete all job responsibilities without supervision
  • Must be able to take initiative to find and complete additional tasks not directly assigned by the Aztec Lanes Coordinator
  • Must arrive to work on-time and ready to work at the beginning of the scheduled shift
  • Must be comfortable working in stressful situations and making respectable decisions
  • Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other program areas, and supervisor
  • Must attend bi-weekly Aztec Student Union Lead staff meetings
  • Must possess a friendly attitude and demeanor

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Ability to provide excellent customer service and work well with all Aztec Student Union staff
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment while paying strong attention to detail
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • Ability to supervise part-time staff and operations during absence of Coordinator

SCHEDULE & WORKING CONDITIONS

This is a part-time position. Must be willing to work a maximum of 20 hours a week during academic year including evenings and weekends, available to work summer and winter breaks, flexible with schedule availability and willing to pick up additional shifts on short notice. Work shifts will be scheduled with full consideration of employee’s academic schedule.

Physical demands will require standing for extended lengths of time and will require lifting, pushing, pulling, moving and carrying items up to 50 pounds (unassisted) and 75 pounds (with assistance). This position also requires the individual to spend time sitting and using office equipment and computers. Physical requirements also include but are not limited to:  walking, bending, stooping, climbing, and working in confined space, lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying loads.

RELATIONSHIPS

Inside the Organization:

  • Reports to the Aztec Lanes Coordinator
  • Interacts with Aztec Lanes Attendants, Equipment Mechanics, and Instructors
  • Further interactions may include other full-time staff within the Aztec Student Union, including, but not limited to, Student Union Director, Student Union Assistant Director of Programs & Services, and Student Union Assistant Director of Operations.

Outside the Organization:

  • Interacts with various vendors and University organizations
  • General public guests

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered this position with Associated Students.
