Maintenance Lead


Under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, Lead Maintenance Assistant will perform building and equipment repairs and maintenance as needed. Maintenance Leads are expected to accomplish a wide range of tasks including: fiberglass repairs, facility maintenance, aquatic equipment repairs, and preventative maintenance. This position will also be responsible for MBAC shop assets and training of other MBAC Maintenance Assistants. Applicants must be confident in the operation and repair of aquatic equipment as well as have good critical thinking skills.

Specific Duties:

  • Must maintain accurate records of powerboat maintenance logs and MBAC reservation book.
  • Assist MBAC full-time staff in ensuring a safe and responsible work environment.
  • Receive fuel shipments and assist with accurate record keeping.
  • Prioritize repair reports and work orders on a daily basis.
  • Assist in preventative maintenance of powerboat fleet as well as vehicles.
  • Work alongside other staff in the recovery and or salvage of disabled vessels.
  • Respond to emergencies including damage control of MBAC property and assets, medical emergencies, natural disasters, and other events.
  • Assist in the supervision of the janitorial staff, Dockmaster staff, and Maintenance Assistants.
  • Assist with the maintenance of stock material and supply inventories.
  • May be required to work weekends and holidays as well as morning and evening shifts.
  • Other duties as assigned


Applicants must be familiar with hand tools, basic power tools, diagnostic tools, and OSHA standards. Applicants should be highly motivated and goal oriented with a basic background in automotive maintenance and repair. Applicants must be available to work during the summer months. Experience with sustainable business practices is a plus.


Must possess or be willing to obtain Red Cross CPR/First Aid certification and attend a MBAC Safe Boating course. Must possess a valid CA driver’s license.

Physical Requirements:

The work environment will involve exposure to water, salt water, dust, grease, sand, sun, wind, rain, weather, seaweed, sea grass, hazardous chemicals, and other industrial hazards. Physical requirements include but are not limited to: walking, bending, stooping, lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying loads, and working in narrow or tight spaces.


$10.12 per hour
