Aztec Lanes Lead Job Description
Under the direction of the Aztec Lanes Coordinator, the Aztec Lanes Lead will assist with on–site supervision of Aztec Lanes customer service and operations. Becoming an integral member of a hard working team of full-time and part-time staff with in Aztec Recreation, the Lead should possess the ability to work independently and as a team member. Leads should also have the ability to take strong initiative and responsibility for long term and short-term projects and possess the willingness and flexibility to work with a diverse population of participant, members and Aztec Lanes staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary Functions
- Serves as on-site supervisor during absence of Aztec Lanes Coordinator
- Opens and close facility ensuring readiness for customers
- Assists with managing reservations and special events
- Assists with supervising attendant staff
- Assists in the recruitment, interviewing, hiring, and training, motivate, evaluate, and discipline of part-time student employees
- Sets up and facilitates regular staff meetings to ensure quality control and outstanding customer service
- Consistently and confidently enforces all Aztec Recreation policies to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for all members, guests and affiliates
- Provides excellent front line customer service to all members and guests; Greets all customers, answers questions and provides accurate information, provides tours of the facility
- Responsible for point of sale, cash handling, filing, and organizational projects as assigned
- Maintains knowledge of the programming and ENS classes offered
- Possesses a thorough understanding of the hours, private parties and the different activities in the facility
- Has an understanding of the policies and regulations of the facility, Aztec Recreation, and Associated Students and is able to explain and enforce the rules to inquiring members and guests
- Becomes an important member in the Emergency Action Plan if an incident were to occur
- Has knowledge of the mission and goals of Aztec Recreation and the Associated Students and demonstrates a commitment to achieving them
- Attends and participates in regular staff meetings to ensure quality control and outstanding customer service training
- Maintains knowledge of current events and general information regarding Aztec Recreation Cleans and maintains lane conditions during the assigned shifts
- Troubleshoots basic pinsetter errors
- Assists with other relevant duties as assigned
Customer Service and Collaboration
- Establishes and maintains working relationships with various A.S. and University departments
- Greets all customers in a timely manner
- Assists all customers with questions and/or comments
- If unable to assist, refers customer to someone who can
- Maintains positive and effective working relationships with all customers
- Informs supervisor of any customer issues
Safety
- Ensures all operations are conducted with safety of staff and customers as first priority, and in accordance with the Injury and Illness Prevention Plan and other safety policies
- Adheres to Associated Students’ Code of Safe Practices
- Reports accidents to supervisor and reviews changes required to avoid reoccurrence Ensures completion proper documentation is completed for each accident (employee and/or non-employee) and forwards to supervisor
- Reports maintenance problems and/or broken and unsafe equipment to the appropriate party immediately
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum & Preferred Requirements
Education:
- Must be currently enrolled at San Diego State University, taking a minimum of 6 units
- Priority consideration given to Work Study
Experience:
- Minimum 6 months employment with Aztec Recreation required
- Proficient knowledge of Aztec Lanes operations and Aztec Recreation programs, facilities, and policies required
- Customer service and cash handling experience required
- Knowledge and/or participation of Aztec Recreation programs and facilities preferred
- Knowledge of CSI Spectrum Software, Microsoft applications, website, and internet navigation preferred
License & Certification:
- First Aid and CPR/AED certifications are required
Trainings:
- Must complete Sexual Harassment Prevention and Gender Awareness trainings within 30 days of hire
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
- Must be able to work independently and complete all job responsibilities without supervision
- Must be able to take initiative to find and complete additional tasks not directly assigned by the Aztec Lanes Coordinator
- Must be comfortable working in stressful situations and making respectable decisions
- Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other program areas, and supervisor
- Must attend bi-weekly Aztec Recreation Lead staff meetings
- Must possess a friendly attitude and demeanor
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Ability to provide excellent customer service and work well with all Aztec Recreation staff
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment while paying strong attention to detail
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions
- Ability to supervise part-time staff and operations during absence of Coordinator
SCHEDULE & WORKING CONDITIONS
This is a part-time position. Must be willing to work a maximum of 20 hours a week during academic year including evenings and weekends, available to work summer and winter breaks, flexible with schedule availability and willing to pick up additional shifts on short notice. Work shifts will be scheduled with full consideration of employee’s academic schedule.
WORK ENVIRONMENT General office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require standing and walking for extended periods. The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available. Possible exposure to distracting/uncomfortable noise levels from bowling activity and pinsetters. Being aware of surroundings and utilizing safety practices is an important factor when maintaining the lanes, including the slippery surface of the lanes and troubleshooting pinsetters.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS This position requires the individual to spend long hours sitting or standing and using office equipment and computers. Must be able to lift up to 45 lbs. repetitively
RELATIONSHIPS
Inside the Organization:
- Reports to the Aztec Lanes Coordinator
- Interacts with Aztec Lanes Attendants, Equipment Mechanics, and Instructors
- Further interactions may include other full-time staff within Aztec Recreation, including, but not limited to, Recreation Director, Associate Director of Programs, Associate Director of Member Services and Facilities, Marketing Coordinator, photographer, and videographer
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered this position with Associated Students.
