Aztec Lanes Attendant

Under the direction of the AS/SDSU Aztec Lanes Coordinator and supervision of the Aztec Lanes Lead, the Aztec Lanes attendant will follow through on the below mentioned responsibilities. The Aztec Lanes attendant is responsible for greeting customers, checking out equipment, point-of-sale transactions and cash handling, providing information to customers at the front desk and on the floor of the facility, and providing high quality customer service. Becoming an integral member of a hard working team of full-time and part-time staff within Aztec Recreation, an Aztec Lanes attendant should possess the ability to work independently and as a team member. Attendants should possess the willingness and flexibility to work with a diverse population of participants, members and Aztec Lanes staff.


  • Greet all customers in a timely manner and possess a strong dedication to provide excellent front line customer service
  • Explain AR membership benefits, retail sales, filing and equipment check-out
  • Provide information over the counter and on the telephone
  • Responsible for point of sale, cash handling, filing, and organizational projects as assigned
  • Become familiar with the programming and ENS classes offered
  • Possess a thorough understanding of the hours, private parties and the different activities in the facility
  • Have an understanding of the policies and regulations of the facility, Aztec Recreation, and Associated Students and be able to explain and enforce the rules to inquiring members and guests
  • Become an important member in the Emergency Action Plan if an incident were to occur
  • Have knowledge of the mission and goals of Aztec Recreation and the Associated Students and demonstrates a commitment to achieving them
  • Attend and participate in regular staff meetings to ensure quality control and outstanding customer service training
  • Maintain knowledge of current events and general information regarding Aztec Recreation
  • Clean and maintain lane conditions during the assigned shifts
  • Assist with other relevant duties as assigned
  • Must possess a friendly attitude and demeanor

Customer Service

  • Inform supervisor of any customer issues


  • Must be a regularly enrolled SDSU student carrying at least six units per semester
  • Must be willing to work a maximum of 20 hours a week during academic year
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends
  • Must be available to work Summer and Winter breaks
  • Physical demands may require standing for extended lengths of time
  • Physical demands may require lifting or moving items up to 50 pounds; must acquire assistance for items 75 pounds or greater
  • Customer service and cash handling experience preferred
  • Must be First Aid and CPR/AED certified prior to hiring
  • Priority consideration given to Work Study

  • Prior knowledge about Aztec Recreation is an asset

Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require standing and walking around campus. The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available.

This position requires the individual to spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers. This person will also spend time filing and have to do some lifting of supplies and materials from time to time, including banker boxes and files.
