A Resolution in Support of San Diego State University's Plaza Linda Verde Project

WHEREAS, the Associated Students of San Diego State University (SDSU) is the single recognized voice of the approximately 30,000 students at SDSU; and

WHEREAS, the mission of SDSU is to provide a well-balanced, high quality education for undergraduate and graduate students, and to contribute to knowledge and to solve problems through excellence and distinction in teaching, research, and service; and

WHEREAS, the proposed Plaza Linda Verde project at SDSU will develop a clear entrance to the campus, designed as an integrated living experience comprised of green living spaces as well as more on-campus student housing options, employment, shopping, dining, and parking opportunities that will create an environment that greatly enhances the student experience at SDSU; and

WHEREAS, the proposed Plaza Linda Verde project at SDSU reflects sound principals of smart growth planning such as alternative transportation options, pedestrian orientation, high density, mixed-use development and education; and

WHEREAS, the student housing options within the proposed Plaza Linda Verde Project at SDSU will offer amenities and services that are affordable and essential for students needs; and

WHEREAS, the proposed Plaza Linda Verde project at SDSU seeks to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification, which ensures that the project meets the minimum green building and performance measures through the point based rating system that addresses six major areas: sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, indoor environmental quality, innovation and design process; therefore be it,

RESOLVED, so long as the campus student population meets the necessary housing demands, that the Associated Students of SDSU endorses the proposed Plaza Linda Verde project at SDSU so long as proper financing is ascertained; and further be it,

RESOLVED, that the Associated Students of SDSU encourages the University to seek LEED Platinum certification for the proposed Plaza Linda Verde project at SDSU to provide a healthier and cleaner living community for students; and finally be it,

RESOLVED, that this resolution be distributed widely including, but not limited to San Diego State University President Stephen Weber, San Diego State University Facilities & Planning, the San Diego State University Senate Sustainability Committee, San Diego State University Aztec Shops, San Diego City Council, San Diego Redevelopment Committee, San Diego College Area Community Council, California State University Chancellor Charles B. Reed and to the California State University System Board of Trustees.
