Resolution in Support of Eliminating Smart Classroom Rental Fees
WHEREAS, the mission of San Diego State University is: to provide well-balanced, high quality education for undergraduate and graduate students and to contribute to knowledge and the solution of problems through excellence and distinction in teaching, research, and service; and
WHEREAS, the AS University Council serves "as the primary student representative body responsible for researching and developing the student perspective for University policy and advocacy of any and all relevant matters affecting University students on and/or off the campus;" and
WHEREAS, it is the mission of the Associated Students to represent, serve, and protect the collective interests of students at San Diego State University; and
WHEREAS, it is the duty of the members of the College of Arts and Letters to be the premier advocacy and support organization for undergraduate students and to voice the concerns of its members; and
WHEREAS, the mission of the Association of Anthropology Students is to provide a forum for the discussion, promotion, and realization of anthropological pursuits; we act as the bridge between student and professional.
WHEREAS, all San Diego State University students and or organizations may provide insight into their respective fields while representing in the most professional way which includes unhindered and ultimate access to facilities and technology.
WHEREAS, the ‘Smart Classroom Policy’ that Registered Student Organizations are being required to adhere to, despite the contradicting policy that exempts them, demands a $225.00 equipment fee per meeting for ‘wear and tear.’
WHEREAS, the students on campus have a need for access to services and space without the need to worry about additional expenses; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that Associated Students will commit to helping all Recognized Student Organizations (RSOs) eliminate the rental costs for smart classrooms; and let it be
RESOLVED, most recently the classroom rental fee has been reduced from $225 to $25 per use. Associated Students will continue to advocate for RSO’s through participation in all further campus discussions on this matter.
RESOLVED, that Associated Students will commit to aiding with the reexamination and modification of campus policies that focus on the finances of classroom rentals for all members of the San Diego State community; and let it be
RESOLVED, this resolution is to be distributed widely including, but not limited to: SDSU President Elliot Hirshman, SDSU University Senate, and the San Diego States University Division of Student Affairs.
