I. CALL TO ORDER

A.S. Vice President of University Affairs Trinity Dang called the meeting to order at 3:37 p.m.

II. ROLL CALL

III. APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA 

It was moved and seconded to approve the minutes for November 13, 2024.

V. PUBLIC COMMENT

-

Andrew Gamboa from the Glazer Center for Leadership & Service gave a public comment regarding “Quest for the Best” awards and also promoted the SDSU Leadership Summit Conference.

VII. ITEMS FOR CONSIDERATION

  1. Goals Discussion (Information)
    University Council leaders collaborated to discuss goals, evaluate their positions, and strategize for the semester.        
  1. College of Arts and Letters Student Council: 
  1. Focused on improving organization and clarifying leadership structures.
  2. Coordinating the CAL Career Fair in collaboration with Billy.

2. College of Engineering Student Council:

  1. Daniel has accomplished several goals and is working on a College Council Open House planned for March. Community-Based Clubs.

(CBC):

  1. Working on club collaborations and tabling efforts.
  2. Establishing a CBC Google Drive for resources and communication.

 

3. College of Education Student Council:

  1. Milan is expanding efforts on career fairs, with dates set.
  2. Aiming to bridge gaps between higher administration and students within the College of Education.
  3. Coordinating with Dean Chung to set a date for an event.
  4. Encouraging more students to join Recognized Student Organizations (RSOs) and participate in meetings. 

 

4. College of Sciences Student Council:

  1. Accomplished a majority of their goals.
  2. Erin has been developing a monthly newsletter featuring relevant events and resources for College of Sciences students.
  3. Working on an alumni career panel in collaboration with the College of Sciences.
  4. Using A.S. Campus Affairs marketing to create more career advancement events for STEM majors beyond the College of Business.
  5. Promoted the Your Voice Matters (YVM) campaign and launched a Teaching Assistant (TA) Discrepancies survey.
  6. Planning an additional event to address underrepresented majors.
  7. Seeking to generate more engagement for A.S. Elections and Council Elections.
  8. New goal: Hosting a First-Gen in STEM event.

 

5. College of Health and Human Services Student Council:

  1. JP has set up a Pre-Health panel featuring professionals from various occupations.
  2. Established office hours for students unable to attend general council meetings.
  3.  Organized a CHHS Career Week of events for the semester.
  4. Working on implementing a mandatory course for non-major prep graduate program assistance.
  5. Developing a course to educate students on how to be more competitive for graduate school applications.
  6. Exploring the possibility of implementing a Dean’s List for CHHS students.

 

6. College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts Student Council:

  1. Discussed accountability within the council.
  2. Planning the PSFA Showcase with events lined up for the year.
  3. Addressing last-minute venue issues and working towards improved organization. Goals include gaining a better understanding of council positions and ensuring events are well-planned in advance.

 

7. Graduate Student Association:

  1. Half of the graduate students involved are returning members, while half are new.
  2. Addressing differences in needs and experiences between PhD and Master’s students.
  3. Exploring cooperative efforts with UC San Diego (UCSD).
  4. Discussing the SDSU Mechanical Engineering program, which includes coursework and research opportunities at both SDSU and UCSD.

 

8. Board of Directors Student-At-Large Senators (BOD SALS):

  1. Working on various initiatives.
  2. Serving as key supporters for executive leadership and councils.
  3. Major goal: Developing programs and documentation to assist with leadership transitions for the next academic year.
  4. Details are still in progress, with updates expected soon.

B. General Consent Agenda (Action) - None.

C. General Consent Report (Information)
The General Consent Report was reviewed. 

VIII. INTRODUCTION OF NEW LEGISLATIVE MATTERS      

None. 

IX. REPORTS OF UNIVERSITY COUNCIL MEMBERS 

  1. College of Professional Studies & Fine Arts: Working to clarify communications with Career Services and coordinating with Dan to resolve Union date and reservation challenges.
  2. College of Education Student Council: Planning an upcoming Career Fair. COE is also hosting a student dialogue on the new presidential administration. There is a DEI panel on Thursday, Feb 6th, from 3-4pm in Lamden Hall 338.
  3. College of Engineering Student Council: Introduced a new member, Hidaya Saban.
  4. College of Sciences Student Council: Held a successful DEI Panel and their representative, Aadi Bery, requested guidance on how to give A.S. reports during University Senate meetings moving forward.
  5. SDSU Imperial Valley: Revisited issues around safety on their campus.

X. EXECUTIVE REPORTS

  1. Kat Hernandez, A.S. President: 
  1. Met with President Adela de la Torre, confirming SDSU-GPT AI initiatives and providing updates on Career Advantage and college councils. Leading efforts on SWANA Center foundations and planning an RSO Student Leader Mixer. Also participated in a special SEC meeting with Dr. Nola Butler-Byrd, discussing speaker selection and support for sensitive topics.

B. Tajuddin Henry, A.S. Executive Vice President: No report.
C. Derrick Herrera, A.S. Vice President of External Relations:

  1. Collaborating on the California Higher Education Student Summit, enhancing legislative outreach, and working with the Cal State Student Association to boost awareness of non-immigration legal services. Efforts include compiling resources and amplifying "Know Your Rights" information across SDSU and AS.

D. Vincent Lin, A.S. Vice President of Financial Affairs: 

  1. The CFAC discussed a proposed fee for study abroad applications, rising enrollment trends, and confirmed the Life Sciences building construction. Plans for academic councils to present budget details and budget allocation for the next fiscal year were also reviewed.

E. Trinity Dang, A.S. Vice President of University Affairs: No report.

F. Christina Brown, A.S. Executive Director: No report.

XI. BOARD OF DIRECTORS STUENT AT LARGE REPORTS

  1. Nick Felix, Board of Directors Student-At-Large: Nick brought up the EVOLVE project, which involves tearing down TECs to build high-rises, is underway. A presentation will be held to educate everyone about the project, the largest of its kind, and gather student input.
  2. Nora Novak, Board of Directors Student-At-Large: The AP&P Senate, updates on priority registration, language requirements, and the Responsible AI program were discussed, and a proposal to change grading policy language from "average" to "satisfactory" was passed.
