I. CALL TO ORDER

A.S. Vice President of University Affairs, Ally Gallant, called the meeting to order at 3:32 p.m.

VI. UNIVERSITY REPORTS AND PRESENTATIONS 

  1. University Senate Designee, Dr. Marissa Vasquez reported on the following: Tomorrow the Senate Excellence in Teaching Awards will be presented. There is also a Senate Executive Committee (SEC) meeting tomorrow. 

     

  2. University Vice President for Student Affairs Designee, Dr. Randy Timm reported on the following: Staff and faculty have been working to support students affected in the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The Interfraternity Council (IFC) has put a social moratorium in place until October 15th due to seven of the fraternities being suspended. The installation of ten computers in the E-gaming Center has been completed and they are hoping to do a soft launch of the center in the beginning of November. This weekend is SDSU Parents Weekend; please check the website for event information. 

     

  3. Graduation Application Process - Stefan Hyman, Associate Vice President of Enrollment (Time Certain 3:45 p.m.)
    Stefan Hyman gave  an overview of the admissions and graduation application process. 

     

  4. Graduate and Ph.D. Program Opportunities - Dr. Bill Tong, Interim Provost (Time Certain 4:30 p.m.)
    Dr. Bill Tong engaged the members in a conversation and overview of different graduate and Ph.D. programs available to different majors and colleges.

VIII. REPORTS OF UNIVERSITY COUNCIL MEMBERS

  1. Ally Gallant, Vice President of University Affairs: Be prepared to give updates on respective University Senate Committee meetings. Suite treat event will be 10 a.m. on October 31st in the A.S. office. 
  2. Tarek Morsy, President: A.S. Career Advantage flier and website has been created. Working on marketing and promoting the event on November 3. 
  3. Sam Lingao, Executive Vice President: Trying to coordinate an A.S. Speaker Series with alumni to promote student alumni relationships. Homecoming events will be ongoing all week. A.S. tabling opportunities on 10/26 and 11/5. Thursdays Together this week will be Trader Joe's themed goodie bags. 
  4. Melvin Ridley III, Vice President of External Relations: No report. 
  5. Leo Pena, Vice President of Financial Affairs: Pie Day is Aztecs Rock Hunger’s promotional event tomorrow, please volunteer and participate. It will be at Hepner Hall from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. 
  6. Christina Brown, Executive Director: No report. 
  7. Sam Ramtin, Government Affairs Coordinator: A.S. study abroad essays have been received, it is the representatives responsibility to review and recommend the essays for an A.S. study abroad scholarship. Any graduate students interested in the Graduate Student Association, please contact Sam. 
  8. Palni Bhatt, ASBOD Student-At-Large: No report. 
  9. Derrick Herrera, ASBOD Student-At-Large: No report. 
  10. Alex Inglis, ASBOD Student-At-Large: No report. 
  11. College of Arts and Letters: Planning tabling events and marketing CAL Council to other students. Continuing to explore expanding research opportunities for humanities and social sciences. 
  12. College of Business: No report. 
  13. College of Education: December 12th has been confirmed for the Winter Fair. Working with Dr. Lozada-Santone to provide education majors more support in math and linguistics. 
  14. College of Engineering: Tomorrow, the representatives will be attending a conference at University of Arizona. Next Wednesday the annual pumpkin drop will be from 11 a.m.- 3 p.m. in the Student Union courtyard. 
  15. College of Health and Human Services: Breast Cancer Awareness Walk is on 11/5. Working to plan more philanthropy events. Holding a panel with post graduate students who are in Doctoral Physical Therapy school. 
  16. College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts: Currently planning a College of PSFA showcase to display the different majors the college opens. Working on the Lend a Hand project clothing drive. Looking to bridge the gap between the recognized student organizations within the College of PSFA and the College’s executive board. 
  17. College of Sciences: Sciences DEI town hall will be on 10/25. Working with the College of Sciences Dean to provide students with more supplemental instruction. 
  18. Graduate Student Association: No report. 
  19. Undeclared College Council: First meeting last week was to welcome the five new members of UCC. Planning a course registration for first-year undeclared majors. Talking about doing collaboration events with CAL. 

IX. ANNOUNCEMENT

  1. Ally Gallant: There is an event at 6:30 p.m. in the Peterson Gym tonight  about the ongoing conflict in Israel and Palestine.
