I. CALL TO ORDER

A.S. Vice President of University Affairs, Ally Gallant, called the meeting to order at 3:34 p.m.

VI. UNIVERSITY REPORTS AND PRESENTATIONS 

  1. University Senate Designee, Dr. Marissa Vasquez reported on the following: There was a recent University Senate meeting today and the possibility of a union strike of California Faculty Association (CFA) was discussed. 

     

  2. University Vice President for Student Affairs Designee, Dr. Randy Timm reported on the following: No report. 

     

  3. Waitlist Update and Discussion- Dr. Madhavi McCall, Associate Vice President, Curriculum, Assessment and Accreditation (Time Certain 3:45 p.m.)

  3. Selection of UC Member on the ASJAC Vacancy Ad-Hoc Committee (Action)
    It was moved and seconded to approve Ethan Shelden as the primary and Nora Novak to serve as the alternate on the ASJAC Vacancy Ad-Hoc Committee.

  4. Mid-Semester UC Member Goal Evaluations and Next Steps (Information)
    A mid-semester goal evaluation was reviewed.

VIII. REPORTS OF CAMPUS LIFE COUNCIL MEMBERS

  1. Ally Gallant, Vice President of University Affairs: At the next meeting the SDSU IT team will be coming to speak about the “my.sdsu” transition. Class registration is starting soon and reminded representatives to keep the time slot open for future meetings. A newsletter was sent to students about the A.S. career initiatives this year. The UC member of the month is Nicholas Felix!
  2. Tarek Morsy, President: No report. 
  3. Sam Lingao, Executive Vice President: Just recently joined the Blue Ribbon task force for gender based violence. SDSU Athletics are collaborating with A.S. for Homecoming. 11/15 will be the Aztec for Life Blood Drive from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. in the Viejas Arena. 
  4. Melvin Ridley III, Vice President of External Relations: Encouraged everyone to download the SDSU Safe App. Ongoing meetings regarding the hiring process for a new Vice President of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity. Finalizing the Rock the Vote social media push and talking with Residential Education Office (REO) to allow RTV tabling within residential halls. Please reach out if you are interested in joining an advisory board for the Strategic Communications department. 
  5. Leo Pena, Vice President of Financial Affairs: Gave a brief overview presentation of Aztecs Rock Hunger this year and how University Council will participate in raising money. 
  6. Christina Brown, Executive Director: No report. 
  7. Samuel Ramtin, Government Affairs Coordinator: No report. 
  8. Palni Bhatt, ASBOD Student-At-Large: No report. 
  9. Derrick Herrera, ASBOD Student-At-Large: Working on the interview process for the new Vice President of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity. Monday is Indigenous Peoples day and the Native Resource Center will be hosting events. Next Friday is the official launch of Aztecs Rock Hunger. 
  10. Alex Inglis, ASBOD Student-At-Large: No report. 
  11. College of Arts and Letters: Planning an event with Career Services. Trying to promote research in the College of Arts and Letter. Encouraging students to participate in the SDSU Student Symposium. 
  12. College of Business: Planning a business social mixer. Parma Payne Goodall Alumni Center career fair will be on 10/16. Potential leadership summit being planned with CBC’s executive board. Concerned about meeting attendance and marketing so looking to address those issues moving forward. 
  13. College of Education: The event coordinator has been selected and has started to plan events for COESC. Trying to make merchandise for COESC and fundraise to have more events. The big event of the semester will be a winter fair meant to boost community knowledge about programs. 
  14. College of Engineering: Issues with requiring EE 380 Senior Design has been fixed within the College of Engineering so students will still be able to graduate on time. Addressing the potential for extended lab hours for STEM majors within their College Council. Completing walkarounds with student organizations to show support and shared governance. 
  15. College of Health and Human Services: There will be a Pachanga on 10/19 to celebrate LatinX heritage month. The council has established their three goals and are planning bonding events. Focusing on different causes every month and this month is Breast Cancer Awareness and Aztecs Rock Hunger. Planning events about NARCAN awareness, CPR, and basic life support. 
  16. College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts:  The executive board is working with their Assistant Dean to have a retreat. Connecting with student organizations through walkarounds. Created a Dance Marathon team. Planning for Career Services to come to a general body meeting and speak about job opportunities for students in the College of PSFA. 
  17. College of Sciences: 9/23 was the CSSC All-Council retreat. Looking to build a better connection between the executive board and student organizations. Enhancing the College of Sciences website. Looking to address a potential fire hazard in Life Sciences North as well as finding a fourth A.S. representative. 
  18. Graduate Student Association: No report. 
  19. Undeclared College Council: No official meeting yet. Focusing on recruitment to fill vacancies on the board. Planning a registration workshop for undeclared undergraduates. 

IX. ANNOUNCEMENTS 

  1. . Melvin Ridley III: This month is Cyber Security Month. Encouraged everyone to watch the video recently posted promoting cyber security.
  2. Leo Pena: The college council that is able to raise the most money for Aztecs Rock Hunger will get a waiver for a free event in any A.S. facility for two hours.
