I. CALL TO ORDER

A.S. Vice President of University Affairs, Ally Gallant, called the meeting to order at 3:36 p.m.

II. ROLL CALL

III. APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA

It was moved and seconded to approve the agenda for today’s meeting.

IV. PUBLIC COMMENT- NONE

No public comments at this time.

V. UNIVERSITY REPORTS AND PRESENTATIONS

  1. University Senate Designee, Dr. Marissa Vasquez reported on the following: Dr. Vasquez gave a brief description of her position as the University Senate Designee, this includes being an advocate of students, determining and assigning University Senate referrals to different committees, and acting as a supporter for getting students prepared for Senate Committee meetings.
  2. University Vice President for Student Affairs Designee, Dr. Randy Timm reported on the following: Student Affairs and Campus Diversity is currently looking to find a good number of Aztec Nights to host since they have seen a downturn in attendance. They are also trying to determine how to make events cost effective. Dr. Timm is also working closely with Sam Lingao on Snapdragon tailgating as well as Greek Life’s involvement in it. 

  3. Classroom Feedback - Dr. William Tong, Interim Provost (Time Certain 4 p.m.): The council engaged in a conversation regarding student feedback on increased classroom impacts, especially in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) department. 

VI. ITEMS FOR CONSIDERATION

  1. General Consent Agenda (Action): None.
    General Consent Report (Information): The general consent report was reviewed.

  2. Introduction to University Council Member Roles and Responsibilities (Information): Ally reviewed the roles and responsibilities of a University Council member.

     

  3. Campus Committees & Shared Governance Presentation - Justice Herrera, A.S. Shared Governance Assistant
    Justice Herrera presented about University Senate Committees and the role of a UC member in terms of shared governance.

VII. REPORTS OF CAMPUS LIFE COUNCIL MEMBERS

  1. Ally Gallant, Vice President of University Affairs: A.S. College Council Retreat is on Saturday, September 16 at 9:30 a.m. The retreat starts at Park Boulevard in the student union and then whoever is interested will go to the Mission Bay Aquatic Center for water sport activities!
  2. Tarek Morsy, President: Has ongoing discussions with Career Services to develop a comprehensive career plan for A.S.
  3. Sam Lingao, Executive Vice President: Everyone will be receiving an email regarding tabling opportunities. This Thursday at 12 p.m. there will be another moral event. 
  4. Melvin Ridley III, Vice President of External Relations: Recently conducted an outreach meeting with a Council member. There is one more leadership position on the Rock the Vote Leadership Team for a marketing position.
  5. Leo Pena, Vice President of Financial Affairs:  Continuing meetings on Aztecs Rock Hunger as well as working on tailgating. 
  6. Christina Brown, Executive Director:  On September 20th following the A.S. UC meeting there will be the University House reception. A campus safety alert was sent out and Campus Community Commission (CCC) will be working with UPD to put out a safe rideshare campaign. 
  7. Palni Bhatt, ASBOD Student-At-Large: At the last A.S. BOD, there was a Psychiatric Crisis Response Team presentation from University Police Department (UPD).
  8. Derrick Herrera, ASBOD Student-At-Large: A.S. BOD has been in good conversations with safety stakeholders on campus. Working closely with Melvin and Leo on their respective projects. 
  9. Alex Inglis, ASBOD Student-At-Large: No report. 
  10. College of Arts and Letters: Elections for A.S. Representatives are ongoing and during the next meeting they will be reviewing check requests. 
  11.  College of Business: SHRM will be having a leadership summit soon. 
  12. College of Education: Held a welcome event today. There is an open A.S. representative position so they will be having elections soon. 
  13. College of Engineering: There was a club and organization tabling event in the union last week. 
  14. College of Health and Human Services: Next week they will be holding elections for another A.S. representative. 
  15. College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts: The Executive Board is currently at a conference in Boston. 
  16. College of Sciences: They are currently planning a CSSC retreat but they are still deciding the dates. Elections for A.S. Representative vacancy will be next week. 
  17. Graduate Student Association: No report. 
  18. Undeclared College College: No official meetings so far, there are many vacancies so they are looking to fill the open positions.

VIII. ANNOUNCEMENTS

  1. Gabriella Handoko: SDSU Rotaract holds a service event, Miracle League, every Sunday.
