I. CALL TO ORDER

A.S. Vice President of University Affairs, Sandy Mekany, called the meeting to order at 3:34 p.m.

VI. UNIVERSITY REPORTS AND PRESENTATIONS

  1. University Senate Designee Dr. Vasquez: A University Senate meeting occurred yesterday and there were various updates like a proposal to hold at least one Senate meeting per year at the Imperial Valley campus. The Provost gave updates on promotions and tenures of various college deans across the CSU campuses. 
  2. University Vice President for Student Affairs and Campus Diversity Designee, Chrstine Molina: Registration for fall 2023 classes will be during the month of April.  If people are looking to seek advising appointments  then they are encouraged to register for appointments as soon as possible. The final day to submit service hours to the Glaser Center will be April 10th. The Quest for the Best scholarship winners have been announced and 9 students from San Diego State have been selected including Sandy Mekany.
  3. Sustainability Presentation - A.S. Green Love Commission (Time Certain 3:45 p.m.): Green Love Representative,Raul Leon, and Green Love member, Joe Staples, gave a brief overview of the Green Love Commission and various events and subcommittees they have. They also showcased upcoming Green Love events. Charlotte Roberts, A.S. Sustainability Coordinator, gave a presentation about climate change, efforts SDSU has made to be sustainable, and why sustainable practices are important.

VIII. REPORTS OF UNIVERSITY COUNCIL MEMBERS 

  1. Sandy Mekany, Vice President of University Affairs:
    The recent majority of Your Voice Matter submissions have revolved around the difficulty students have found when trying to schedule advising appointments. The University Affairs Board has been collaborating with Mending Minds for an event in April, the event will be centered around mental health and academic success. This event will be on 4/13 from 3:30-4:30 p.m.
  2. Shawki Moore, President:
    Shawki expressed his enjoyment that San Diego State’s Men’s basketball team made it to the NCAA National Championship. 
    Associated Students was able to bring 700 students to Houston to be at the championship. Shawki mentioned to ASUC that the Board of Directors at their next meeting will be deciding to either support or reject the E-gaming proposal. The proposed Out of State and International Student Fee was passed by the President despite the Campus Fee Advisory Committee (CFAC) not recommending it. 
  3. Meena Alexander, Executive Vice President:Meena Alexander encouraged everyone to pick up their GreenFest ticket from the front desk of the Associated Students office. On April 27, the Aztec Achievement Awards will occur. 
  4. Robson Winter, Vice President of External Relations:Robson is working to move forward toward the end of the year and trying to deepen connections with local officials and offices to help create pathways for future students. 
  5. Sophia Koch, Vice President of Financial Affairs: A.S. received 702 applications for the study abroad scholarship and as a member of ASUC it is the council member’s responsibility to go through applications and recommend individuals to the executive officers. 
  6. Christina Brown, Executive Director: Christina was excited that A.S. was able to accommodate all students who asked for accommodations for Houston. 
  7. Ava Walker, ASBOD Student-At-Large: No report. 
  8. Brandon Bartosh, ASBOD Student-At-Large: No report. 
  9. Grace DeVega, ASBOD Student-At-Large: The Global Campus Dean search has come to an end and the decision should be announced by the Provost soon. 
  10. College of Arts and Letters: The College of Arts and Letters had a presentation today from Career Services on the website handshake and advice on how to find jobs and internships on the website. 
  11.  College of Business: The College of Business is preparing for executive elections beginning next Tuesday. 
  12. College of Education:College of Education Student Council will be next Monday on 4/10 during the general meeting time. The executive board will be doing a team bonding at Broken Yolk sometime this upcoming weekend.
  13. College of Engineering:  CESC is working on elections. 
  14. College of Health and Human Services: No report. 
  15. College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts: PSFA will be holding an alumni event on 4/19. 
  16. College of Sciences: CSSC will be holding a college council trivia bowl on 4/24 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Faculty networking event on 4/17. Council elections on 4/19. 
  17. Graduate Student Association: No report. 
  18. Undeclared College: The deadline to renew the bylaws has passed so UCC is making plans to review the bylaws in fall semester with the new executive board. UCC will be tabling at Explore SDSU on 4/15. 
    The UCC executive board will be traveling to a conference in Las Vegas in two weeks and they purchased polo’s to wear. 

IX. ANNOUNCEMENTS

  1. Meena Alexander announced that Justice Herrera got into a summer research project at Havard. 
  2. Sydney Simpson announced that Camila Milanes got into law school.
