I. CALL TO ORDER

A.S. Vice President of University Affairs, Sandy Mekany, called the meeting to order at 3:35 p.m. 

II. ROLL CALL 

A. IV. APPROVAL OF PREVIOUS MINUTES

V. PUBLIC COMMENT

VI. UNIVERSITY REPORTS AND PRESENTATIONS

A. University Senate Designee, Dr. Marissa Vasquez reported on the following:

  • There was a University Senate meeting this Tuesday on 11/1.
  • All CSU campus Senates are currently reviewing a new CSU proposal that will impact transfer students and their general education course work.
  • The CSU Title IX Assessment team is touring all CSU campuses and they are currently at San Diego State University from 11/1-11/3. 

B. Research & Resources Presentation - Dr. Hala Madanat, Vice President of Research and Innovation (Time Certain 3:45 p.m.)

  • Dr. Hala Madanat presented on San Diego State's progress in becoming an R1 university. Currently SDSU is performing between a R2 and R1 and is working to become fully recognized as an R1 institution. SDSU functioning as an R2 places the school at the higher end of research facilities compared to other CSU campuses. 

VII. ITEMS FOR CONSIDERATION

A. General Consent Agenda (Action):
It was moved and seconded to approve the general consent agenda.

B. General Consent Report (Information): The general consent report was reviewed.

C. Shared Governance Committee Update- Shared Governance Assistant, Beth Bridges (Information)
Beth Bridges gave a presentation on the current status of student appointments to University Senate committees. 

VIII. INTRODUCTION OF NEW LEGISLATIVE MATTERS

#UCB F22-01 A Resolution to affirm Commitment to Shared Governance (Action): 
It was moved and seconded to approve the Shared Governance resolution.

QUEZADA/GALLANT                                                        

Charlotte Giacobetti proposed adding a clause to WHEREAS lies 16-19, It was also mentioned by Giacobetti to add a friendly amendment to the resolution. There were no objections by Quezada.

A roll call vote was called.

IX. REPORTS OF CAMPUS LIFE COUNCIL MEMBERS

A. Sandy Mekany, Vice President of University Affairs:

  • Your Voice Matters push week is 11/14-11/18. University Affairs Board is scheduling classroom walkarounds, tabling, and social media content for the push week.
  • Sandy has met with Dr. Joanna Brooks about student grievance procedures and she will be attending a future UC meeting to continue the ongoing conversation.
  • During the next University Council meeting there will likely be a campus safety town hall meeting to address safety around Villa Alvarado and the Art building. 
    The Associated Students Campus Safety Committee has launched and is meeting bi-weekly on Wednesdays from 2-3 p.m. 

B. Shawki Moore, President:

  • On Friday the NPHC Yard Show will be held, there will be food trucks from 5-7 and then from 7-10 p.m. the Yard Show will take place.
  • Shawki gave thanks to everyone who attended the Aztecs Rock Hunger Carnival Dunk Tank, 
  • The walkarounds for the current Fall semester have been completed and Associated Students were able to reach about 85 RSOs. 
  • The council members of the month are Nina Go and Phillip Bury. 
  • Homecoming is this current week as well. 

C. Meena Alexander, Executive Vice President: No report. 
D. Robson Winter, Vice President of External Relations:

  • Rock the Vote has held two electoral candidates on campus in the last two weeks. 
  • The election will be held on 11/8/22. 
  • Poll sites have opened on campus from Saturday to Tuesday in the Student Union. 
  • Rock the Vote has registered over 419 new voters. 

E. Sophia Koch, Vice President of Financial Affairs:

  • Sophia visited Imperial Valley’s campus for their food pantries grand opening on 11/1. 
  • It is currently Aztecs Rock Hunger’s final week, Wednesday was the push day where the goal is to raise 6,190 for San Diego’s area code 619.
  • There is also an opportunity for a 1975 concert ticket drawing. 

F. Christina Brown, Executive Director:

  • Associated Students funds study abroad and the University Council will be reviewing the A.S. scholarship applications. 

G. Ava Walker, ASBOD Student-At-Large: No report. 
H. Brandon Bartosh, ASBOD Student-At-Large: No report. 
I. Grace DeVega, ASBOD Student-At-Large: No report. 
J. College of Arts and Letters:

  • CAL will be hosting a Coffee with CAL event on 11/8 from 12-2 p.m. which will celebrate National First Generation day. 

K. College of Business:

  • There was a start-up San Diego event in the Student Union last week which was free to all students.
  • CBC is in progress planning the end of semester events and next semester’s kick off events.

L. College of Education:

  • The CPR and First Aid Training that was held last Saturday (10/29) was successful. 
  • Coffee with the Dean will be held on Friday 11/4. 
  • There are ongoing efforts to update and decorate the college bulletin board in Lamden Hall. 
  • A college survey is being approved by admin before being sent out to College of Education students.
  • There will be a toy drive in collaboration with the Tijuana Home Build. 

M. College of Engineering:

  • The annual pumpkin drop last week was a success. 
  • The CESC council is traveling to Hawaii for a conference. 

N. College of Health and Human Services:

  • On the environment and safety Senate Committee a number of seats need to be filled, the main concern will be safety maintenance in labs. There are working efforts to find a method to collect student input. 

O. College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts: No report. 
P. College of Sciences:

  • During the Donuts with the Dean event CSSC hosted there was a conversation with the Assistant Dean about the my.SDSU transition and student issues with it. 
  • There will be a VP of Community Service and As Representative election this upcoming week. 
  • There will also be a DEI town hall this Friday 11/4. 

Q. Graduate Student Association: No report. 
R. Undeclared College: No report. 

X. ANNOUNCEMENTS

A. Kailey announced that today is Dia de Los Muertos. 
B. Justice announced that it is Native American Heritage Month. 
C. Sandy will be doing a takeover on the SDSU admissions instagram.
D. Sophia announced council members should donate to Aztecs Rock Hunger.
