I. CALL TO ORDER

A.S. Vice President of University Affairs, Sandy Mekany, called the meeting to order at 3:35 p.m.

II. ROLL CALL 

A. III. APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA

It was moved and seconded to approve the agenda for today’s meeting.

The approval of the previous minutes was tabled until the next meeting.

VI. UNIVERSITY REPORTS AND PRESENTATIONS

A. University Senate Designee, Dr. Marissa Vasquez:

  • Dr. Vasquez informed the Council that there will be a University Senate meeting tomorrow where a my.SDSU report will be given. 

B. University Vice President for Student Affairs Designee, Dr. Randy Timm:

  • This past weekend during family weekend there were close to 2,000 people that participated in various programs, and at the football game at Snapdragon. Stadium we had the largest tailgate numbers that SDSU has seen in years.
  • Dr. Timm acknowledged that various national news events have been occurring regarding higher education. 

C. Status of Transition to my.SDSU - Jerry Sheehan, Vice President and Chief Information Officer

  • Jerry Sheehan and Stefan Hyman, Associate Vice President of Enrollment, provided a transition update regarding my.SDSU.  

D. Robson Winter, A.S. VP of External Relations and Beth Bridges, Shared Governance Assistant- Advocacy Presentation

  • Robson and Beth gave a presentation on tips and advice of how to advocate for students in the best way possible but also how to present yourself in meetings with University leaders.

VIII. INTRODUCTION OF NEW LEGISLATIVE MATTERS

#UCB F22-01 A.S Resolution to Reaffirm Commitment to Shared Governance (1st reading)

  • Sandy reviewed how the process of resolutions work and where this resolution is on that process timeline. Council members reviewed the resolution, asked questions, and offer feedback on the resolution.

IX. REPORTS OF CAMPUS LIFE COUNCIL MEMBERS

A. Sandy Mekany, Vice President of University Affairs:

  • The Your Voice Matters push week will be November 14-18.
  • Mold was found in residential dorms, the building was assessed and all mold was removed. It is important to note mold was found but not toxic black mold.
  • The College Council retreat was this past weekend and Sandy thanked everyone who was in attendance. Sandy is also working on a joint College Council event calendar.
  • As far as the my.SDSU transition the school is working to create a file for advising and an academic resource guide. 
    If a walkaround event presentation or meeting where council members were supposed to be in attendance they were encouraged to reach out to Sandy or other relevant people. 

Shawki Moore, President:

  • Thanked every council member who attended the university reception two weeks ago.
  • Shawki just returned from Washington D.C. where he received the Seal of Excelencia on behalf of SDSU at the Education and Excellence Conference.
  • For the October 7th event over 300 people have RSVP'd so far.
  • Shawki hopes midterms are going well and he recognizes how stressful this time in the semester could be.
  • Shawki also hopes everyone has been enjoying the A.S. moral events. Meena has been hosting and there will be pizza in the A.S. office on 10/6. 

Meena Alexander, Executive Vice President:

  • The A.S. Celebration is this upcoming Friday, October 7, it is a professional event where cocktail attire is recommended.
  • The council members of the month were voted as : Leanne and Noemi.
  • The SDSU Homecoming Court announcement will occur tomorrow, 10/6, in the student union and council members were encouraged to attend

Robson Winter, Vice President of External Relations:

  • Rock the Vote will be tabling in first year residence halls next week to encourage as many students as possible to register to vote before the midterm elections deadline.
  • This past Monday there was a housing affordability town hall in Montezuma Hall where Robson gave a speech on the importance of affordable housing for students.
  • Robson is working to bring local candidates to speak on campus as well as creating QR codes for students to scan and register to vote. 

Sophia Koch, Vice President of Financial Affairs:

  • Campus Fee Advisory Committee (CFAC) subcommittee is working to pass a student success fee on the Imperial Valley campus, Robson and Sophia are working to advertise and educate about the fee. Students at Imperial Valley and main campus will both be voting to approve or deny it.
  • Aztecs Rock Hunger (ARH) is 9 days away and there will be a kick off event on October 17th from 12-1 p.m. in the student union.

Christina Brown, Executive Director: No report. 
Brandon Bartosh, ASBOD Student-At-Large:

  • University Police Department (UPD) came to the last Board of Directors meeting to introduce the new social worker liaison they have hired in an effort to build a whole team of social workers. Social workers are looking to accompany police officers on certain calls and to lead efforts to follow up with anyone who’s had interaction with a police officer. 

Ava Walker, ASBOD Student-At-Large: No report. 
Grace DeVega, ASBOD Student-At-Large: No report. 
College of Arts and Letters:

  • On October 19th, there will be an implicit bias training in collaboration with the PSFA student council.
  • CAL is introducing a splice program where students will be able to be mentored by other CAL students.
  • There was a career presentation in the last CAL council meeting.

College of Business:

  • In the previous meeting the College of Business Dean spoke about their shared goals, and about 25 members were in attendance.
  • There was also professional development training for students.
  • There will also be a career fair on October 7th from 10-1 p.m.

College of Education:

  • The College of Education student survey initiative is moving forward, which is similar to the Your Voice Matters platform, and they are working on an incentive for students to complete the form.
  • There will be a Dance Marathon team for the College of Education.
  • On Saturday, October 27th, from 12-3 p.m. there will be a first aid and CPR training that costs $30 in the Tula Center, this certification will last two years. 

College of Engineering:

  • There will be a pumpkin drop on October 27th, from 12-3 p.m. students will be in teams of 1-5 people.
  • College T-shirt sales are going well. 

College of Health and Human Services:

  • On October 23rd at 11 a.m. there will be a good neighbor clean up collaboration with CCC and College of Sciences.
  • There will be a Transfer Student Game night on October 18th, from 5:30-8:30 p.m., all CHHHS students are welcome, it will be held in the back of Oggi’s. 

College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts:

  • Tacos with Transfer Students event is being planned. 

College of Sciences:

  • There is a vacant position of VP of Community Services open. 
  • Department chairs will be attending their meetings on October 19th.
  • There are multiple events planned for the CSSC, October 8th is a beach clean up, October 13th is a tabling expo in the union, October 23rd is a good neighbor clean up collaboration with CCC an CHHS, and a DEI town hall is also being planned. 

Graduate Student Association: No report. 

Undeclared College College:

  • This semester UCC is having bi-weekly Coffee with the Council events.
  • UCC will be highlighting majors each month, during the second meeting of the month they will bring in an advisor from the major that is highlighted that month.

X. ANNOUNCEMENTS 

A. Nina: There will be free flu shots for the next three weeks and there will be moving vaccine pop-ups all around campus.
B. Malia: Dance Marathon Miracle week is this week! Council members were encouraged to join the A.S team, Leanne is the team captain. Tomorrow is push day (10/6). 
C. Lindsay: Lindsay and George serve on the board of the Noah Hytken Memorial Fund there is an annual basketball tournament being planned. Council members were encouraged to join the CARE team
D. Grace: The Judicial Affairs Council requirement deadline is November 17th.
