I. CALL TO ORDER

A.S. Vice President of University Affairs, Jennifer Schenkenfelder, called the meeting to order at 3:32 p.m.

III. APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA

VI. PRESENTATIONS AND UNIVERSITY REPORTS

  1. University Senate Designee, Dr. Nola Butler-Byrd: Dr. Nola Butler-Byrd reported on the following:
    1. Provided an introduction of herself to the Council as a Multicultural Community Counseling and Social Justice Educator and Vice Chair of the University Senate.
    2. The resolution regarding classroom modality did not pass at the University Senate meeting last week and the resolution to condemn anti-Semitism passed.
  2. University Vice President for Student Affairs and Campus Diversity Designee, Christine Molina:  Christine reported on the following:
    1. Provided an update proactive outreach to those students who are on academic probation.
  3. Your Voice Matters Push-Week Presentation - Jennifer Schenkenfelder, A.S. Vice President of University Affairs:
    With the Your Voice Matters (YVM) Push-Week occurring next week, Jennifer presented the YVM presentation that will be done during the classroom walkarounds. 

VII. ITEMS FOR CONSIDERATION

  1. General Consent Agenda (Action):
    It was moved and seconded to approve the General Consent Agenda, which includes the External Relations Board and Graduate Student Association meeting minutes.

  2. General Consent Report (Information): 
    The General Consent Report was reviewed, which includes the College of Arts & Letters Council, Fowler College of Business Council, College of Health and Human Services College Council, College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts College Council, and Imperial Valley Associated Students Council meeting minutes.
  3. A.S. Letter in Response to Assembly Bill 1456 - Shawki Moore, A.S. Vice President of External Relations (Information):
    Shawki Moore reviewed an A.S. letter draft to Governor Newsom in regards to Assembly Bill 1456.

IX. REPORTS OF UNIVERSITY COUNCIL MEMBERS

  1. Jennifer Schenkenfelder, Vice President of University Affairs: Academic Affairs Committee meets in the Council Chambers at 9 a.m. on Mondays.  YVM Push-Week is next week and we will have walkarounds to the classrooms.  Participants to help with walkarounds are needed.  This will count as the tabling requirement. The Shared Governance Town Hall is on Thursday, September 30 at 4 p.m.
  2. Ashley Tejada, President:  Attended the Senate Executive Committee and the Lemonade with President Adela de la Torre, in which the focus was mental health.  September is Suicide Prevention Month.  Attended the Aztec Shops Board of Directors meeting.  Conducted FLEX interviews with David Gamble.  
  3. Karina Esteban, Executive Vice President:  For Suicide Prevention Month, we will be distributing bracelets with a flyer of resources.  Working with New Student and Parent Programs regarding Family Weekend where there will be tabling opportunities.
  4. Shawki Moore, Vice President of External Relations: Constitution Day and the Jeopardy game went well and National Voter Registration Day is on September 28.  Reminded everyone that the YVM and External Relations Board Shared Governance Town Hall is on September 30.
  5. Austin Barber, Vice President of Financial Affairs: Financial Affairs Committee meets at 11:00 a.m. on Mondays.  We have some slots to fill, if you know anyone interested.  Have been meeting with College Councils regarding funding.  Economic Crisis Response Team (ECRT) Advocate training is on September 30 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  
  6. Christina Brown, Executive Director: Please inform your respective College Councils there the student union is available for those who would like to use a meeting room to study.  There is a free printer/copier in the student union for black and white copies.  There are A.S. jobs available.  The Vacancy Committee will meet to fill the Recreation & Wellness and Justice position and the respective College Councils will select their UC representatives.
  7. Beth Bridges, ASBOD Student-At-Large:  Making connections with the colleges.  There will be a lot more to come in the near future.
  8. Alexia Oduro, ASBOD Student-At-Large: Working on an accommodation form with the Student Ability Success Center.  
  9. Margot Ermer, ASBOD Student-At-Large: There is a Good Neighbor Program Clean Up this Sunday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  10. College of Arts and Letters (CAL) Council:  The applications for open CAL Council positions are closed.  Working on a discord for the college.
  11. Fowler College of Business Council:  The Business Organization Expo on 9/15 went well.  
  12. College of Education Student Council: Looking for a second representative for the Education seat on the University Council.  The applications are currently still open.
  13. College of Engineering Student Council:  The annual Pumpkin Drop event is on 10/26.  Collaborating with Aztecs Rock Hunger to donate t-shirt sales to the campaign.
  14. College of Health and Human Services Student Council: The Heart/Stroke walk raised over $15K.  Will be holding a transfer student social event, collaborating with the resource centers, and will be holding office hours.
  15. College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts (PSFA) Student Council: We had our second Council meeting.  Partnering with the College of Education and will have Donuts with the Dean in the near future.
  16. College of Sciences Student Council (CSSC): Had the second Council meeting.  Planning a club fair with Health & Human Services.  Organizing a beach clean up at Mission Beach.  
  17. Graduate Student Association (GSA): The GSA President position is open.  There is a graduate student insurance town hall next week.  Looking to fill a UC representative.
  18. Undeclared College Council (UCC): Filling UCC vacancies.  Started a ‘brown bag’ lunch with UCC advisors on Tuesdays at Scripps Cottage.
