I. CALL TO ORDER

Vice President of University Affairs, George Scott, called the meeting to order at 3:32 PM.

VI. UNIVERSITY REPORTS AND PRESENTATIONS:

  1. University Senate Designee, Dr. Nola Butler-Byrd: No report.
  2. University Vice President for Student Affairs Designee, Dr. Andrea Dooley: 
    1. Student Health Services is offering free flu shots.
    2. Asked members to reach out if they would like to be an ambassador for the Economic Crisis Response Team (ECRT). 
    3. Cal Fresh Day and the Food and Housing Assistance Fair today were very successful and hundreds of students participated. 
    4. Glad that the Ombudsman is presenting today. 
    5. Passing around flyers to promote the peer financial literacy training.
    6. Thanked everyone that engaged in the fee forums. Campus Fee Advisory Committee (CFAC) will be having an open meeting on Friday in Montezuma Hall at 11:00 am to review the results from the forums and decide whether to recommend the two proposed fee increases. 
  3. Ombudsman Presentation – Dr. Darrell Hess, Office of the Ombudsman (Time Certain 4:00 pm).
    1. Explained the history of the ombudsman/ombudsperson position and the reason for having one at SDSU. 
    2. Explained his role in helping students and reviewed some of the “Do’s and don’ts” of his position. 
    3. Reviewed common concerns that students bring to the office.
    4. Explained the policy for grade changes and how to access the CSU Student Grievance Code.

VIII. INTRODUCTION OF NEW LEGISLATIVE MATTERS

None.

IX. REPORTS OF UNIVERSITY COUNCIL MEMBERS

  1. George Scott, Vice President of University Affairs:
    1. Expressed appreciation for the work that all of the members are doing. Has been hearing a lot of great things in Academic Affairs. 
    2. Shouted-out to the College of PSFA and the College of Business for providing a representative on the University Affairs Board (UAB) to work on the 2019-2020 A.S. Academic Report.
    3. Attended President Adela de la Torre’s Enrollment and Management Advisory Committee (EMAC) meeting to report about this year. 
    4. The final student engagement meeting for the Aztec Recreation Center (ARC) is on December 10th and is the final chance for student input. 
    5. This week is International Education week and the International Peace Village is tomorrow at 10:00 am. 
  2. Christian Onwuka, President:
    1. Thanked members for staying committed to A.S and reminded them that their work is not going unnoticed.
    2. Will be sharing a draft with some objectives for the ‘Students are at our Core’ for the Strategic Plan and would appreciate any feedback. 
    3. President Adela de la Torre announced two task force groups last Tuesday, which include the Alcohol and Substance Misuse Task Force and Student Activities and Safety Task Force. Will be working with Brittany Santos-Derieg to appoint students to the groups. 
    4. Spoke at the City Council this Monday in regards to Mission Valley. The offer that SDSU gave was approved by the city of San Diego.
    5. There is a Campus Fee Advisory Committee (CFAC) open meeting this Friday at 11:00 am in Montezuma Hall. The Committee will be deciding whether or not to recommend the two proposed fee increases to President Adela de la Torre. 
  3. Kyla Blaylock, Executive Vice President:
    1. Thanked everyone who volunteered or participated in Homecoming.
    2. Creating a planning committee for the Academic Achievement Awards and is looking for members. 
    3. Will be meeting with Career Services to discuss improving existing services available to students. 
    4. Attended a Super Sunday meeting, which discussed the work that the CSU’s and faith-based organizations are doing to help students thrive. 
    5. There is an Economic Crisis Response Team (ECRT) ambassador training on Friday from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm at Calpulli. 
    6. Thanked everyone who donated blood at the Aztecs for Life blood drive this Tuesday.
    7. Wished everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!
  4. Angie Espinoza, Vice President of External Relations: 
    1. Shared appreciation and admiration for all members.
    2. Reminded members that the 2020 census coming up and is offering part time jobs.
    3. Explained the CSSA “bill idea form” and encouraged members to make use of this resource if needed.
    4. Transgender Day of Remembrance is today and is honoring those who died from acts of transphobia.
    5. The Presidential Debate Watch Party is this Wednesday, November 20th from 5:30-7:30 pm in the Student Lounge. 
    6. Asked everyone to send advice or tips that can be given to help students who are looking to run for a position in A.S. 
  5. Dustin Adkins, Vice President of Financial Affairs: 
    1. Thanked everyone who participated in Aztecs Rock Hunger. 
    2. Attended the California Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators Conference and discussed various issues with K-12 teachers, including: financial aid, how best support first gen students, and common issues with the Cal Grant and FAFSA.
    3. Will start to gather preliminary student input starting the first week of December regarding parking services.
  6. Christina Brown, Executive Director: 
    1. Reminded students about the following upcoming events: 
      1. Holiday Event on Monday, December 2nd from 12:00-2:00 pm at University House.
      2. Last meeting is Wednesday, December 4th at 3:30 pm in the Alumni Center and there will be dinner afterwards.
    2. Looking forwards to seeing everyone at the Student Diversity Commission (SDC) mixer after this meeting. 
  7. Stephanie Estrada, ASBOD Student-at-Large:
    1. No report. 
  8. Lee Abed, ASBOD Student-at-Large:
    1. Met the financial education peers, an organization on campus that helps students become financially independent and spoke about some of their work. 
    2. Reached out to the city to fix broken street lights in areas of concern. 
  9. Sophie Chance, ASBOD Student-at-Large:
    1. Thanked everyone who has reached out about the 4+1 program. 
  10. College of Arts and Letters: 
    1. Elected the VP of Publicity. 
    2. The first speaker series was this week and the VP of Finance from the College of Business presented.
  11. College of Business:
    1. Asked members to keep donating toys to the Toy Drive through Friday or to venmo @cbc-sdsu. 
    2. The CBC mixer had a great turnout, looking to do a similar event again in the spring.
    3. December 4th will be elections for an A.S. Representative position because Christie Keller will be studying abroad. 
  12. College of Education:
    1. The Lunch of the Lawn event today was cancelled due to the weather. It has been rescheduled to the Wednesday after Thanksgiving Break. 
  13. College of Engineering:
    1. The Interim Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies, Yusuf Ozturk, spoke about the proposal for the College of Engineering that would help students can graduate in four years. 
    2. The University Senate will be voting on a resolution for a GE integration program that would allow for students to graduate in four years and will be voting on this at the meeting on December 3rd. 
  14. College of Health and Human Services:
    1. Happy that they were awarded many Student Success Fee (SSF) proposals.
  15. College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts: 
    1. Lend a Hand going until November 26th.
    2. Received the SSF they applied for and will be using that money to have alumni return as guest speakers. 
    3. Having elections for an A.S. Representative position because Daisy Kent will be studying abroad. 
  16. College of Sciences:
    1. There was a debrief about the meeting with Dean Roberts, which was greatly improved from last year. Having prepared the questions and sharing them with the dean prior to the meeting was helpful.
    2. Planning to have more meetings with the dean next semester.
  17. Graduate Student Association: 
    1. There is a Friendsgiving event tomorrow from 6:00-8:00 pm in Council Chambers and attendees will be writing letters to people detained in the centers.
    2. Excited that a SSF proposal was awarded for graduate student travel funds. 
    3. There is a PHD student on the Graduate Student Council. 
    4. Working on the budget for the spring semester and planning networking events.
  18. Undeclared College:
    1. No report.
  19. Imperial Valley Campus:
    1. No report. 

X. ANNOUNCEMENTS

Christine announced that she will be volunteering at a puppy adoption center and can send the information to anyone who needs community service hours.
