A.S. UNIVERSITY COUNCIL MINUTES

I. CALL TO ORDER:

Vice President of University Affairs Corey Polant called the meeting to order at 3:36 PM.

II. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

A. IV. MODIFICATIONS TO AGENDA:

It was moved and seconded to approve the agenda of April 17, 2015.

BILOTTI/SEALY

Jose Muguerza made a friendly amendment to add a time certain for adjournment at 4:45 PM. J. Cole made a friendly amendment to add an Action Item Review for Appointments & Review Committee as Item C under Items for Consideration. There were no objections.

The agenda was approved as amended.

V. APPROVAL OF PREVIOUS MINUTES:

It was moved and seconded to approve the previous minutes of March 23, 2015.

VII. UNIVERSITY REPORTS AND PRESENTATIONS

A. University Senate Designee: None.

B. University Vice President for Student Affairs Designee: None.

IX. ITEMS FOR CONSIDERATION:

A. General Consent Agenda:

It was moved and seconded to approve the General Consent Agenda, as attached.

B. General Consent Report: (Information)

The General Consent Report was reviewed via electronic copy. For further reference please request a full agenda copy from the Government Secretary.

C. Action Item Review for Appointments & Review Committee: (Action)

It was moved and seconded to open nominations.

MOSS/JOHNSTONE CARRIED

University Council Nominees:

Osama Alkhawaja

Marc Hess

It was moved and seconded to close nominations.

TENNY/SEALY CARRIED

It was moved and seconded to approve Osama Alkhawaja and Marc Hess as the University Council representatives on the Appointments and Review Committee by acclamation.

JOHNSTONE/BROOKS CARRIED

Congratulations to Osama and Marc for being elected as members of the Appointment and Review Committee!

X. INTRODUCTION OF NEW LEGISLATIVE MATTERS:

None.

XI. REPORTS OF UNIVERSITY COUNCIL MEMBERS:

A. Corey Polant, Vice President of University Affairs:

  1. The university-wide Take Back the Week is this week! Today, there will be two showings of The Mask You Live In, highlighting the topic of masculinity. Thursday will be a day of healing with a showing of the film, The Hunting Ground. Friday will have the Take Back the Night university-wide event in the evening in the Lee & Frank Goldberg Courtyard at 4 PM. Please show your support and participate.

B. J. Cole, President:

  1. Thank you to the college councils for pushing participation in the Referendum!
  2. Ex4Vets will be held on the steps leading into the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union on Saturday, 5/2 at 11 AM. It will be the first ONE SDSU event that honors veterans. It’s only $20 to register online at http://www.ex4vets.org/ until May 1. Registration on the day of will be $45. 50% of funds raised will go back to the organization to registration you sign up with.

C. Kiana Caton, Chief Justice:

  1. Thank you to the representatives who served on the Appointments and Review Committee this past weekend.
  2. The Judicial Affairs Council approved the elections results this morning.

D. Christina Brown, Executive Director:

  1. The Aztec Achievement Awards are next Thursday, 4/23. Doors open at 4:30 PM and the program will begin at 5 PM. Light refreshments will be provided. Please RSVP if you haven’t done so already.
  2. As an outgoing representative, please be sure that you properly transition your successors into your positions. It’s important to set them up for success for next year.

It was moved and seconded to adjourn the meeting.
