I. CALL TO ORDER

A.S. Executive Vice President Milan Rawls called the meeting to order at 3:37 p.m.

VI. PRESENTATIONS AND UNIVERSITY REPORTS

VII. ITEMS FOR CONSIDERATION

  1. Let’s Talk Elections (Information) - Kareen Holstrom, A.S. President
    Kareen and Abby shared their campaign experience with spring elections. They also shared information about the upcoming A.S. elections and deadlines. The elected position applications are due on Friday, February 13 at 4 p.m.
  2. Resolution Process Update (Information) - Abby McLachlan, A.S. Vice President of External Relations
    Abby reviewed the external and internal resolution processes and opened the floor for questions and discussion as needed. Proposed changes to make the process shorter were introduced and discussed.

VIII. General Consent Agenda (Action)

IX. REPORTS OF CAMPUS LIFE COUNCIL MEMBERS

  1. Milan Rawls, Executive Vice President, reported on the following:
    Discussed initiatives to support students with disabilities in navigating SDSU successfully and plans to collaborate with the campus partners. 
    Working on the planning of the Aztec Achievement Awards.Participation in the University Senate AI working group.Working with Noah Stuart with A.S. walkarounds.Reminder that Thursdays Together is exclusively for council members.
  2. Kareen Holstrom, A.S. President:
    Presented the SWANA survey efforts to participants and discussed specific items related to Senate policy and AI use in syllabi. 
    They also highlighted Campus Community as a tool for receiving emergency communications to ensure student safety on and around campus.
  3. Aliza Siddiqui, A.S. Vice President of Financial Affairs:
    Working on promoting travel and study abroad opportunities, and supporting graduate travel.
  4. Abby McLachlan, A.S. Vice President of External Relations:
    Discussed the new College Area Community Plan, which will allow for higher forms of delegation.
    The California Higher Education Student Summit (CHESS) will take place in Sacramento in March. The delegation will learn about relevant bills.
    VP External shared that students may take a mental health leave without reapplying. Rock the Vote is preparing for the primaries. ERB held the first reading of its immigration resolution and continued the discussion. The Advocacy Toolkit is nearing completion. ERB and Lobby Corps are monitoring student-impacting legislation and exploring advocacy efforts.
  5. Nadia Gallarzo, A.S. Vice President of University Relations: 
    Shared that next week is Your Voice Matters (YVM) Push Week, with Monday featuring Student Support and a Community Resource Fair. 
    Updates include coordination with MarComm, reporting University Council resolutions, Action is scheduled for the March 3rd University Council meeting for the  Student Bill of Rights, and Academic Partnership Agreement returning to University Council soon.
  6. Christina Brown, Executive Director: 
    Advisors reminded members that support is available and encouraged anyone needing assistance to reach out and schedule a meeting.
  7. Brian Levett, Government Affairs Assistant Director:
    No report.
  8. Payton Scott, CLC Student-At-Large, reported on the following:
    Met with a student to address their individual needs and attended the APA meeting, where clear communication regarding AI use in syllabi was presented. They also reaffirmed preexisting policies.
  9. Misha Yohannes, CLC Student-At-Large, reported on the following: 
    No report.
  10. Julia Biesman, ASBOD Student-At-Large, reported on the following: 
    Received a presentation on the AS website and discussed feedback from RSOs regarding website challenges, which will be addressed to improve communication. They also plan to meet with Green Love to discuss the Oaxaca Program and GreenFest info sessions.
  11. Jasmin Zeis-Khalil, ASBOD Student-At-Large,reported on the following:

  12. Ava Alvarado, ASBOD Student-At-Large, reported on the following:
    Reported that the Bill of Rights language is finalized and will be sent to the UC, with hopes of completing the Student Bill of Rights by March. 
    BOD meetings have discussed San Diego Chamber of Commerce, and a letter opposing their actions will be drafted; additionally, the South Dakota Youth Commission is accepting applications.
  13. Aztec Student Union Board reported on the following: 
    Shared updates on upcoming events in the Union, including the GreenFest Listening Party on February 25. 
    The GreenFest Spirit Competition is being promoted on Union screens, the Union and AS Instagram pages, and through campus-wide advertising.
  14. Campus Community Commission reported on the following:
    Shared updates on Campus Community Collaboration events scheduled for February 16–18, including tabling in front of East Commons to provide information on active shooter training and co-hosting the training on February 18 at 1:00 p.m. in the theatre. 
    Additional initiatives include the Good Neighbor Clean-Up in collaboration with GreenFest on March 1 from 11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m., as well as the creation of a Safe Ride informational video and promotional graphics.
  15. Community Service Commission reported on the following: 
    Announced the Community Service Fair on March 12, with 12 groups currently signed up, and shared that outreach is ongoing to additional service RSOs.
     They also noted availability to present at commissions or college councils and discussed increasing activity opportunities within their commissions.
  16. Student Support Commission reported on the following:
    Toured the Basic Needs Center and received a presentation on AS elections. Members also announced the upcoming “Community Connect: Your Voice Matters” event in Montezuma Hall next week, where Counseling, Safe Ride, and other campus resources will be in attendance.
    Recreation and Wellness Commission reported on the following: 
    Announced that Adapted Athletics will compete against Michigan and Arizona on February 20 at 10:00 a.m. 
    Additionally, Mending Minds and a Valentine’s Day Heated Sculpt Pilates event will take place on February 14.
  17. Student Diversity Commission reported on the following: 
    Reported a successful BRC walk-through and noted plans to review the DEI survey, continue work with Heritage Leaders, and discuss upcoming DEI initiatives next week. Additionally, an Eastern Africa inspired food event will be held in the Union on March 5.
  18. Sustainability/Green Love Commission reported on the following:
    Green Love is working to implement EBT and SNAP benefits at the Student Union Market and will meet tomorrow with advisors and the Executive Board to discuss next steps. Additionally, the GreenFest Listening Party will take place from 12:00–1:00 p.m. in the Union Courtyard, with GreenFest Week beginning in March.
  19. Marketing and Communications Commission reported on the following:
    Conducted a website scavenger hunt to explore the A.S. website and identify user challenges. They also shared that the collaboration video with YVM is live, tabling is planned about two weeks before elections, and fun Valentine’s Day themed story posts are ongoing.

X. ANNOUNCEMENTS:

  1. Julia Biesman: Shared that her ASL professor showed the class the sign for Bad Bunny, inspired by the historic Super?Bowl?LX halftime performance where a Puerto Rican signer used Puerto Rican Sign Language to make the music accessible and culturally meaningful for Deaf viewers.
  2. Alyssa DeRouen: Shared that anyone interested in music and mac n’ cheese can attend an event on March 22, with tickets priced at $30.
  3. Milan Rawls: On March 7, the Saturday morning of GreenFest, there will be a 5K run supporting Prevent Child Abuse America and local foster youth. Additionally, quesadillas will be available on March 5 from 11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.
