Executive Vice President Milan Rawls called the meeting to order at 3:35 p.m.

VI. PRESENTATIONS AND UNIVERSITY REPORTS 

  1. SDSU Vice President of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity Designee, Caryl Montero-Adams reported on the following: 
    With Homecoming and Halloween approaching, a variety of activities will be taking place, and participation is encouraged. Reminders will be sent out to ensure the community remains safe and informed during this busy time. Registered Student Organizations are expected to adhere to the Code of Conduct, and various processes are in place to ensure compliance. Collaboration with a student leader is ongoing to appropriately address certain cases through the Student Organization Board. An information session is scheduled for November 15th at 4:15 p.m. on Zoom, and access will be provided to all interested participants.
  2. Aztecs Rock Hunger Presentation, Aliza Siddiqui and Aztecs Rock Hunger Team
    Provided general information about Aztec Rock Hunger and the campus food pantry, highlighting the services and support they offer to students.
    Shared usage statistics, demonstrating the number of students who regularly access these resources.
    Noted that, with recent EBT cuts, these campus resources will become increasingly important for supporting students’ basic needs and well-being.

VIII. REPORTS OF CAMPUS LIFE COUNCIL MEMBERS

  1. Milan Rawls, Executive Vice President, reported on the following:
    Good Neighbor Clean-Up is scheduled soon, students are encouraged to participate. Football tickets will be released at 9:00 a.m. on November 3rd.
    The Yard Show, part of Homecoming, will take place at 6:30 p.m. in Montezuma Hall, featuring presentations by fraternities and sororities.
    The University Council has a special all-council meeting next week, starting at 3:30 p.m. and continuing at 4 p.m., followed by attendance at the theatre.
    The IRA fee presentation will be held for all A.S. leaders to review, discuss, and provide recommendations and feedback based on student experiences. This session will take place at 4:15 p.m. next Wednesday in the Union Theatre..
  2. Kareen Holstrom, A.S. President:
    Continuing efforts with the SWANA Center in collaboration with Dr. Manning.
    Adapted Athletics and sports presidents are hosting a mixer-style event tonight; all participants are encouraged to be welcoming and resourceful for students.
    Google Storage Update: A 50 GB storage cap will be implemented for all students, in line with practices at comparable universities. Students are encouraged to clean out storage as needed. An informational email will be sent during the first week of November, and IT support will be available to assist.
  3. Aliza Siddiqui, A.S. Vice President of Financial Affairs:
    Aztecs Rock Hunger launches on Monday!
  4. Abby McLachlan, A.S. Vice President of External Relations:
    Online voter registration has been approved. However, students will need to complete the registration in person at the Hospitality Center in Student Services West on Saturday, November 1st.
  5. Nadia Gallarzo, A.S. Vice President of University Relations: 
    A new budget allocation has been approved for College Councils to support their initiatives and activities.
    Funding has also been allocated for the Career Fair Advantage Chair and related projects, including initiatives under “Your Voice Matters” to enhance student engagement and participation.
  6. Christina Brown, Executive Director: 
    The Sunflower Initiative will be forming an Ad Hoc Committee. This initiative, led by Andy Lopez, Graduate Student Association leader, encourages students with disabilities to wear a visible item indicating their disability to foster awareness and mindfulness among peers.
    A student collaborator has shared a list of concerns and is joining Andy in raising awareness and helping determine next steps for the initiative.
    Homecoming Week is approaching, students are encouraged to grab tickets early.
    Basketball events are in high demand, so students should monitor ticket availability closely.
  7. Brian Levett, Government Affairs Assistant Director:
    The Chief of Staff oversees both the FLEX and Fast Track programs. There will be ten Flex sessions held around campus, students are encouraged to say hello and engage with the program. As part of the Fast Track program, a panel session will be introduced, beginning with the campus life council. One of your chairs can host a panel on November 5th; past panels have typically attracted around 60 students. An email and Google Calendar invitation will be sent to provide details and scheduling information.
  8. Payton Scott, CLC Student-At-Large, reported on the following:
    Applied for a scholarship, with the intention to allocate a portion of the funds to support the base of an initiative, such as programs for a fraternity, coordinated for a Monarch student.
  9. Misha Yohannes, CLC Student-At-Large, reported on the following:

  10. Julia Biesman, ASBOD Student-At-Large, reported on the following: 
    Actively reaching out to Registered Student Organizations to create transparency and strengthen communication between them and Associated Students.
    Planning a project collaboration next semester with A.S., inviting participation from students who want to join A.S., as well as those already involved in other commissions, to enhance productivity and engagement.
    Discussions around A.S. requirements are ongoing to evaluate whether updates or adjustments are needed.
  11. Jasmin Zeis-Khalil, ASBOD Student-At-Large,reported on the following:
    International Student Support Workshops are held twice per semester, providing guidance on visa cases, international travel, and applications to U.S. schools.
    With Halloween approaching, reminders about the Amnesty Policy and Good Samaritan Policy have been shared to support students who may feel hesitant to report incidents. Contact information is being provided to ensure students know where to seek help safely.
    Ongoing work on the SWANA Center survey aims to gather feedback from students to inform programming and initiatives.
  12. Ava Alvarado, ASBOD Student-At-Large, reported on the following:
    Met with Caryl to discuss the Students’ Bill of Rights and potential amendments; completion is expected by the end of this semester.
    Met with Dr. Yu to review current developments and discuss the university’s future as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI). The university plans to maintain HSI operations and protections, including access to grants and scholarships, even if the official designation changes.
    Met with Dr. Taharka Ade to work on the Student-Teacher Model, reviewing current structures and discussing potential improvements and implementations. 
  13. Aztec Student Union Board reported on the following: 
    Three events will be held across the Union and Montezuma Hall, providing opportunities for student engagement and participation.
    An Open Mic Night is scheduled for tomorrow, encouraging students to showcase their talents.
    Spirit Week will take place next week in the courtyard, featuring various activities to celebrate school pride.
    Monday Night Movie with Hot Chocolate will be held in the courtyard, offering a relaxed and social environment for students.
  14. Campus Community Commission reported on the following:
    Working on adjusting outreach strategies and gathering more voices to promote the campus safety app.
  15. Community Service Commission reported on the following: 
    Assisting with Aztec Rock Hunger and Homecoming Week events and communications, in collaboration with Brian, to increase student engagement and awareness.
  16. Student Support Commission reported on the following:
    The Community Connect project is being rescheduled to the beginning of the spring semester to better align with planning and participation efforts.
  17. Recreation and Wellness Commission reported on the following: 
    Last week, a tour of the Aquaplex and a meeting provided a change of scenery for student leaders and participants.
    The fee for badminton was approved, with a recommendation to adjust fees to ensure sufficient funds for student supplies and intramural activities.
    Sports clubs presented their budgets, all of which were approved. Upcoming activities this Friday include: Bouldering at the climbing wall, Wicked Spin Class, and Recruitment for Adapted Athletics. Efforts are continuing to move forward with the gym expansion project. In collaboration with Professional Studies and Fine Arts , there will be free In-N-Out for transfer students. A Bingo activity will also be held to encourage engagement and connection within the college community.
  18. Student Diversity Commission reported on the following:
    Participating in the International Peace Village event, facilitating the Registered Student Organization Centers. Actively walking around to promote the resources available through each center and encourage student participation.
  19. Sustainability/Green Love Commission reported on the following:
    Swap Shop Event: Held last week, with 700 items collected and exchanged among students. Halloween Clean-Up: Planned with subcommittees to maintain campus safety and cleanliness. Food Insecurity Initiative: A separate subcommittee is actively working on advancing the mission to address food insecurity on campus.
  20. Marketing and Communications Commission reported on the following: No Report.
