The winter session is now open through Global Campus, with a streamlined and efficient admission process. Please note that “Thursdays Together” will take place tomorrow and attendance is limited to council members only. Additionally, one-on-one meetings will be conducted within the Campus Life Council.
Last week, A.S. student leaders and advisors met regarding the student leader Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion plan, which remains open for revisions and feedback. Preparations for SDSU Homecoming are underway, with marketing materials currently in development and the court selection process in progress.
  2. Kareen Holstrom, A.S. President:
Please note that Google storage for accounts will soon be capped at 50 GB. If this change affects you, there will be an informational presentation on October 6th to address concerns and provide guidance.
The university is also actively working on the development of the SWANA Resource Center to better support students from those communities.
In addition, a partnership with LEED was recently formalized through the acceptance of a check, supporting continued collaboration on sustainability and leadership initiatives. Looking ahead, University House will take place on October 8th, an event where student leaders will have the opportunity to connect directly with the university administration in a welcoming and engaging setting.
  3. Aliza Siddiqui, A.S. Vice President of Financial Affairs:
All Associated Students leaders are encouraged to complete the AS Global Scholarship Application, which supports students participating in global programs. A.S. provides funding for any student involved in a qualifying international experience, so please begin reviewing applications as soon as possible, students are currently awaiting approval. In addition, the Dunk Tank event is coming up, and Coach Shawn Lewis, SDSU football coach, will be participating! Start identifying and reaching out to others who might be great candidates for the dunk tank activity.
There is a monthly meeting opportunity with Agnes Wong Nickerson, Vice President of Business and Financial Affairs, who invites A.S. leaders to connect with her directly regarding any student concerns. This is an open forum to bring forward important issues and ideas, and your participation is welcomed.
  4. Abby McLachlan, A.S. Vice President of External Relations:
The External Relations Board has addressed concerns regarding streetlights being out in surrounding areas. These reports will be formally submitted to the city for action and resolution. Efforts to support off-campus housing continue to progress, focusing on accessibility, affordability, and student safety. At the state and local level, advocacy efforts are ongoing concerning legislation related to immigration, particularly around the use of facial coverings by law enforcement officers during enforcement actions. Additionally, raising awareness of CalFresh eligibility remains a priority, as many students may qualify for food assistance but are unaware of the available resources. This remains a key advocacy focus to ensure students have access to basic needs.
  5. Nadia Gallarzo, A.S. Vice President of University Relations:
During the recent University Council meeting, a speaker from the IT Department shared updates regarding a student survey that is currently open on both Canvas and across campus platforms. This survey collects critical data points that can directly support student success, so participation is strongly encouraged. Library-related issues continue to be a concern. In response, the presidents of each college council will be gathering student feedback specific to their respective colleges. These concerns will be compiled and sent to the appropriate channels to support data-driven advocacy efforts aimed at resolving ongoing problems.
