CALL TO ORDER

Executive Vice President Milan Rawls called the meeting to order at 3:37 p.m.

 PRESENTATIONS AND UNIVERSITY REPORTS 

  1. SDSU Vice President of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity Designee: 
    Regardless of political views, safety remains our top priority, especially concerning the recent event in Utah. If you need a space to discuss these matters, please reach out; campus resources and after-hours hotlines are available to support students.
  2. SDSU Ready Campaign Presentation- Amanda Stills, University Police Department (Time Certain: 3:45 p.m.)

Presented an important session focused on campus safety as part of the SDSU Ready Campaign. She highlighted key safety protocols, shared practical tips for staying secure on and around campus, and emphasized the importance of being prepared for emergencies.

C.  Shared Governance Presentation- Shruti Sharma, Shared Governance Assistant
Explained how shared governance fosters collaboration between faculty, staff, and administration in decision-making processes. The presentation highlighted the roles, responsibilities, and benefits of participating in shared governance to promote transparency, inclusivity, and effective communication within the university community.
D. JAC Requirements Presentation - Scarlett Walker, Chief Justice (Time Certain: 4:15pm)
Presented an informative session on the Judicial Affairs Council requirements. Outlining the key responsibilities, expectations, and procedures involved in serving on the committee. The presentation aimed to clarify the role of Judicial Affairs Council members in upholding the A.S. bylaws and holding the A.S. Council members accountable.

  2.  Parliamentary Procedure (Information)- Review the proper conduct of meetings and expectations of attending members.
    Session reviewed the proper conduct of meetings, focusing on parliamentary procedure and the expectations for attending members. It covered how to effectively participate, maintain order, and ensure meetings run smoothly and efficiently, promoting respectful and organized decision-making.
  3. Campus Community Commission Presentation- Justin Deppiesse, Commissioner, and Isabella Martinez, Representative
    Presented on the Campus Community Commission’s role and initiatives. They discussed efforts to foster a welcoming and inclusive campus environment, promote student engagement, and address community concerns. Their presentation highlighted upcoming projects and ways for students to get involved in enhancing campus life.
  4. General Consent Agenda (Action):

It was moved and seconded to approve the general consent agenda, as attached.

REPORTS OF CAMPUS LIFE COUNCIL MEMBERS

  1. Milan Rawls, Executive Vice President, reported on the following:
    The first A.S. Expo and A.S. Mixer was a success. Milan will be sitting on the Homecoming Steering Committee with the Alumni Association.
     ‘Thursdays Together’ offers a space for council members to connect over food. 
    Bring questions for upcoming presentations and check agendas regularly. 
    Spread the word so students know they are welcome at meetings. Reach out to me for presentation requests or to schedule one-on-one meetings.. 
    Safety comes in many forms.
    Use the resource drive for contacts and reach out if you would like support or presentations at your Boards, Committees, Commissions.
  2. Kareen Holstrom, A.S. President:
    Campus-wide communication is in progress for today’s events, with an email to be sent out later. Please inform Kareen if you hear of any concerns. Tomorrow’s event, Lemonade with President Adela de la Torre, will focus on networking with administration. 
    A few members attended the recent Graduate Student Mixer, which was a great opportunity for connection and collaboration. Reach out if you need support on a project or access to resources.
  3. Aliza Siddiqui, A.S. Vice President of Financial Affairs:
    The Financial Affairs Committee had a strong turnout this week. The Audit Committee is seeking a student delegate to sit on the Campus Services Committee, which meets twice on Thursdays. Funding requests of up to $3,000 or $6,000 are available based on requirements, with the next meeting this Wednesday in the Legacy Suite. The Aztec Rock Hunger Leadership team will meet this Friday and continue to see strong engagement, with upcoming collaborations planned with Alumni and Boards, Committees, and Commissions details to be shared via email. Additionally, the KPBS 60th Birthday event, hosted by Agnes from Business and Financial Affairs, had a great turnout.
  4. Abby McLachlan, A.S. Vice President of External Relations:
    Sign up for Constitution Day, there will be food, arts and crafts, and the opportunity to write a letter to your local official. Interest form submissions are up 71% from last year, which is a great improvement. If students bring advocacy issues to you, let us know so they can be discussed at the Board of Directors. The College Area Community Council tasting event is seeking student workers for September 28.
  5. Nadia Gallarzo, A.S. Vice President of University Relations: 
    The first UC meeting took place last week, where concerns were raised about library hours; she is working on a solution through collaboration. Upcoming speakers will address AI, and Abby will present on resolutions and the Global Campus.The Academic Affairs Committee is working with college councils on plans for the year. Students are encouraged to join the UAB meeting to help shape university policy and engage with campus leadership.
  6. Christina Brown, Executive Director:
    She emphasized student safety and affirmed that the Union is a designated space for peaceful protests, as demonstrated today’s peaceful march from Hepner to the Union. Students are encouraged to take action without hesitation.
  7. Brian Levett, Government Affairs Assistant Director:
    The first-year leadership program and second-year transfer program received around 900 applications. A.S.Chief of Staff Jacie Foster is coordinating programming, with the Flex program seeing strong interest, 127 applications, tripling last year’s number. Interviews will be held this Friday, and meetings start in October. Fast Track sessions are on Wednesdays to accommodate more students, while Flex will be more intimate. They welcome any questions or feedback.
  8. Payton Scott, CLC Student-At-Large, reported on the following:
    Actively seeking student concerns and hopes to collaborate with the University Council to address and improve campus safety.
  9. Misha Yohannes, CLC Student-At-Large, reported on the following: No Report.
  10. Julia Biesman, ASBOD Student-At-Large, reported on the following:
    Emphasizes that this meeting space is open to anyone in need of resources or with questions, aiming to create a welcoming and supportive environment. A more centralized system is being developed to better capture student voices, with updates underway to improve accessibility and access to information
  11. Jasmin Zeis-Khalil, ASBOD Student-At-Large, reported on the following:
    Wants students to know she is here to support them, especially during this time when safety is a priority. She encourages everyone to utilize available resources and aims to shed light on important issues happening in the world today.
  12. Ava Alvarado, ASBOD Student-At-Large, reported on the following:
    At the University Senate DEI meeting, she shared that she's kicking off the year by developing a Community Success Form, which is currently under review. She encourages everyone, especially those new to CLC, to share ideas and provide feedback on topics discussed. Legal Services is also expanding to address current student needs.
  13. Aztec Student Union Board reported on the following:
    Many students came out to learn about ASUB and get involved, including at recent events like the movie night featuring The Parent Trap and another gathering in the Union. Homecoming Spirit Week applications are now open for individuals and teams. Aztec Nights, with a medieval theme, will be held on the 12th, alongside a “Cooking with Chefs” event focused on childhood themes. Waivers are being finalized, and collaboration with committees is welcome.
  14. Community Service Commission reported on the following:
    Their second meeting is scheduled for tomorrow, following a strong turnout last week. They have partnered with an RSO to focus on external clubs and are collaborating with Justin on the Good Neighbor cleanup, including reporting community service hours.
  15. Student Support Commission reported on the following:
    They held their first meeting yesterday, focusing on increasing engagement. Plans include tabling, hosting a resource fair with Student Diversity, revamping the Community and Children’s Centers, creating an Adaptive Athletics Board, and advancing the “Your Voice Matters” initiative.
  16. Campus Community Commission reported on the following:
    The group has many upcoming events, though meeting attendance could improve. New delegates were introduced, and the commission’s agenda was reviewed. Key events include Campus Safety Day on September 22 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., a campus cleanup on September 28, and additional activities to follow. They welcome recommendations for any RSOs interested in participating or representing at the Safety Fair.
  17. Recreation and Wellness Commission reported on the following:
    They are wrapping up recruitment and introductions within their committee. Executive goals will be discussed in the next meeting, where one of our executives will also attend to provide support. ARC expansion will be presented at a future CLC meeting, and ARC Fest is scheduled for tonight.
  18. Student Diversity Commission reported on the following:
    Today's meeting was successful, focusing on building personal connections with community centers and RSOs. They are utilizing GroupMe and a dedicated team to drive progress. Emphasis is being placed on the DEI plan and resolutions, with the goal of highlighting SDC as a central hub for students.
  19. Green Love/Sustainability Commission reported on the following:
    Tabling events will be held regularly, with the first event featuring keynote speakers on urban planning and activism next Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Union Theatre, following past GreenFest events. Additionally, the Swap Shop, a free clothing exchange, is scheduled for October 14th. Collaboration with students is welcome for this event.
  20. Marketing and Communications Commission reported on the following:
    Attendance was 35 at the first meeting and 38 at the second. They are working on sustainable initiatives and developing new social media strategies. A shared drive is available to the council for tabling events, social media ideas, and focus group contacts. The A.S. video is scheduled for release on October 1st.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

  1. Justin: The President of the International Student Association announced a coffee and tea tasting event tomorrow at 4 p.m. in the Visionary Suite, featuring a discussion on business culture.
  2. Julia: Serves on the ASL executive board. If interested in joining an RSO, attend their meeting in the Presidential Suite to learn more about the opportunity.
    Payton: The Meet the Greeks event is on September 12th, and the Yard Show will take place on Halloween.
