VI. UNIVERSITY REPORTS AND PRESENTATIONS

- Financial Aid Center Presentation - Shira Scott, Cal Coast Student Financial Center Director & Chip Pierce: Shira Scott detailed the “One Stop Shop” format of Cal Coast, acting as a student support center offering financial aid literacy and general answers to common questions. In 2023, the center received over 70,000 individual counseling appointments and offered webinars throughout the year focused on financial aid literacy. They both promoted sdsu.eyegrab.com, a website that offers interactive financial tools and student resources. Next month, they have 5 workshops with 3 catered towards students with pending-owed balances from the fall and others catered towards financial aid recipients and non-recipients. Chip Scott explained the delay regarding middle class scholarships (MCS) due to FAFSA changes with federal aid processing. Most students should receive their MCS by the end of October.
- Dr. Caryl Montero-Adams, SDSU Vice President of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity Designee, reported on the following: Dr. Montero-Adams visited the legislative office and discussed expressive activities on campus pertaining to Time, Place, Manner policies. She promoted the board to reach out to her should any student desire to operate a protest or rally, and detailed her involvements on the Conflict Management Action Team. As far as Greek Life Registered Student Organizations are concerned, the dry period has officially ended. Organizations hold different policies regarding hosting events with alcohol and with this, a new tailgating policy was instituted. First an application process, there is now a reservation process that RSOs can register for. Lastly, there have been a number of cases in different student spaces regarding mental health and wellbeing. She promoted Counseling and Psychological Services as well as the CARES team, which provides additional support for students in need of assistance with academics, relationships with faculty, and exploring leaves of absence (personal emergency, medical emergency, death of a family member) and this team can issue letters to students, signed by her, to be submitted to faculty.

VIII. REPORTS OF CAMPUS LIFE COUNCIL MEMBERS

- Aztec Student Union Board reported on the following: Passed waivers regarding ZipLaunchpad, Military and Veterans Plan, Hospitality and Tourism Management, CareerExpo, and Lavin Entrepreneurship Educators Conference.
- Community Service Commission reported on the following: Attendance has been increasing lately and they have received effective feedback regarding interest. They are holding action items at the next meeting regarding volunteer coordinator and secretary elections. Also, they have an event with the Student Diversity Commission this upcoming Saturday from 11am-2pm.
- Campus Community Commission - None.
- Recreation and Wellness Commission reported on the following: They approved the budget for Aztec Recreation and Sports Club. Also, Mending minds will initiate on March 10, 2025. They are currently planning a finals week event to start an introduction to Mending Minds to the student body with plans suggesting the Aquaplex or climbing wall.
- Student Diversity Commission reported on the following: They started planning RSO Cultural Center Walkarounds. Recently, they visited the Latinx Resource Center and showed students around. When it rains, water leaks into the conference room and while they have been reporting this issue to the library, it still has not been fixed. Aside, they are looking into Inclusive SDSU to provide solutions to these problems by drafting policy that extends to student safety.
- Green Love/Sustainability Commission reported on the following: They encouraged members to write letters to legislative leaders regarding the soil crisis and are planning a presentation next week with Dr. Fusek. Their first transit social is this Saturday, and are also planning to spread awareness about Measure G with Rock The Vote presentations.
- Marketing and Communications Commission reported on the following: VP Project Management and VP Social Media are elected in, and the Monthly Minute was filmed.
- Campus Life Council Student-at-Large reported on the following: This Friday, Jack McFadden is meeting with Dr. Tong to go over Campus Life Council operations.
- Tajuddin Henry, Executive Vice President: CLC 1-on-1 appointment forms will be sent out later, with Zoom options included until November 1st, but dates can be accommodated. The Morale Committee interest form QR code was displayed, with committee goals of heightening A.S. morale. Aside, he gave a speech for Family Weekend last Friday.
- Kat Hernandez, A.S. President: Today, the A.S. executives had lunch with Sacramento legislation members. They discussed Middle-Class Scholarships issues, Time, Place, Manner policy recommendations, and a data tracking system to analyze potential bias concerning policing. Kat has also been working with Student Affairs & Campus Diversity on alternate dispute resolutions, whose purposes are to establish a central hub that emphasizes conflict management over policing or legal action.
- Vincent Lin, A.S. Vice President of Financial Affairs: During the cycle, A.S. received 513 scholarship applications. Student leaders are expected to review and sign recommendations to these applications. As far as Aztecs Rock Hunger, the Woodstock’s Pizza fundraiser is tonight after CLC and the A.S. Pie Fundraiser is tomorrow.
- Derrick Herrera, A.S. Vice President of External Relations: Held visits with Sacramento legislative members as well as the Chancellor’s office, and discussed topics around financial aid. Rock The Vote has been successful as of late, presenting to athlete groups, classes, and residential halls currently. For the Cal State Student Association, he is charged with developing a report from student perspectives regarding what university resources are well known. Coming up, there will be a presentation from Counseling and Psychological Services promoting resources.
- Trinity Dang, A.S. Vice President of University Affairs: At the next University Council meeting, former Vice President of University Affairs Sandy Mckenny will be giving a presentation. Also, Jacqueline Toy from the Weber Honors College will give a presentation regarding competitive scholarship opportunities. Aside, the University Affairs Board appointed all leadership positions and discussed the Academic Partnership Agreement with emphasis on framing student concerns. She explained how the Your Voice Matters website is outdated and people should expect revisions soon. Otherwise, Banned Books week was a success.

- Christina Brown, A.S. Executive Director: The Campus Community Commission has their first Safety Committee meeting on October 29th at 3:30 p.m., where they will be discussing campus safety. She announced that the annual lighting walk will be on November 12th at 6:00 p.m., and for anyone to RSVP if they plan on attending. The Asian Pacific Student Alliance (APSA) Night Market is also tonight.

- Gamma Phi Beta is hosting a philanthropic “Pancake” event, serving pancakes from 9pm to 1am this Friday.
