I. CALL TO ORDER

A.S. Executive Vice President, Sam Lingao, called the meeting to order at 3:35 p.m. in the Council Chambers at the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union.

II. ROLL CALL

  1. Public comments were made regarding the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and student safety
    concerns.

VI. UNIVERSITY REPORTS AND PRESENTATIONS 

  1. SDSU Vice President of Student Affairs Designee: No report. 

     

  2. A.S. Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Plan - Patty Rea, A.S. Associate Executive Director and Rodrigo Mercado, A.S. Associate Director of Human Resources (Time Certain 3:45 p.m.)
    A presentation regarding A.S.’s diversity, equity, and inclusion plan was presented by Patty Rea and Rodrigo Mercado. It was discussed by the council representatives. 

VII. ITEMS FOR CONSIDERATION

    It was moved and seconded to approve the General Consent Agenda.

  2. Discussion of semester timeline (Information)
    Sam Lingao presented the council representatives with questions to answer to see how each council's goals and objectives were progressing.

VIII. REPORTS OF CAMPUS LIFE COUNCIL MEMBERS

  1. Sam Lingao, Executive Vice President: Recently joined the Blue Ribbon Task Force for Gender Based Violence. Last week Sam attended a meeting with various college campus leaders across the country to talk about improving safety on campus. The Homecoming website on A.S. has all events for the week laid out and they are looking for volunteers for some of the events. Posters and promotional materials for Homecoming will begin to disperse. 
  2. Tarek Morsy, President: The November 3rd Career Advantage kickoff event planning is underway and the team is working to make this a successful and large event. Thanked Campus Community Commission for the rideshare safety video because it is informative and important with Halloween being this weekend. 
  3. Melvin Ridley III, Vice President of External Relations: Working on Rock the Vote material such as flier outreach and social media pushes. Tabeling in residential halls the best three weeks to outreach to communities that are likely to be unregistered to vote. On 11/29 local College Area representatives will be coming to an External Relations Board event. The rideshare safety video will be posted on Friday. Promoting the A.S. career advantage kickoff event. 
  4. Leo Pena, Vice President of Financial Affairs: No report. 
  5. Ally Gallant, Vice President of University Affairs: The ARH dunk tank event is happening on Monday. There will be a Homecoming fun run being planned as well for Saturday. The University Council has been having discussions surrounding waitlists and graduate program opportunities. 
  6. Patricio Silva, ASBOD Student-At-Large: Hoping to bridge the gap between the Equal Opportunity Office and Associated Students. 
  7. Gianna Salazar, ASBOD Student-At-Large: No report. 
  8. Kailey Quezada, ASBOD Student-At-Large: Hoping to create a strong legacy of younger A.S. leaders and bridging A.S. with the Hispanic communities on campus. Remember to take time for yourself and be safe this weekend. 
  9. Christina Brown, Associated Students Executive Director: Christina will not be attending the next ASCLC meeting because she has been asked to consult with UCSB’s student union. 
  10. Brian Levett, Government Affairs Assistant Director: Looking for volunteers to help at the Homecoming game for Aztecs Rock Hunger. UPD is looking for people to be featured in a photoshoot with their community service officers. 
  11. Aztec Student Union Board (ASUB): Finalizing event proposals for Spring semester. Wanting to change the demographics of event attendees and getting more men to attend events, looking to host more male oriented events. Working to implement A.S. career advantage within ASUB. Sip and paint event was successful and there is an open mic night tonight. 
  12. Community Service Commission (CSC): Currently volunteering for Aztecs Rock Hunger. Hoping to collaborate with other community service organizations on campus. Before the end of the semester the commission is hoping to finalize appointments. Trying to get featured on the A.S. Monthly Minute. 
  13. Campus Community Commission (CCC): The rideshare safety video has been finalized. The first Good Neighbor Cleanup will be 11/12. Ensuring diversity in the committee. 
  14. Recreation and Wellness Commission: Hoping to reach out to student organizations that typically have low activation rates. Mending Minds will be having collaboration events with different commissions such as Green Love. The third week of February will be the Mending Minds campaign. 
  15. Student Diversity Commission (SDC): Working to promote the Inclusive SDSU campaign. Creating a DEI and microaggression presentation for the Residential Educational Office since there has been input about the lack of diversity within residential halls. Hoping to plan a culturally diverse career fair.
  16. Student Support Commission (SSC): Working on the resource guide.
  17. Green Love/Sustainability Commission:  Hoping to update the Green Love website. Hoping to get more student input on planning GreenFest, their planning meetings are at 10 a.m. every Friday. Swap shop was successful and there were over 1,300 items of clothes donated and 24 people volunteered. 
  18. Campus Life Council Student-at-Large, Jasmin Zeis-Khalil: Working to continue listening to students' needs and concerns. Many students, especially Muslim students have expressed concern about safety on campus. The CLC of the week is to help a lost student find their way on campus. 
  19. Campus Life Council Student-at-Large, Nadia Dedgeba: No report. 
  20. Marketing and Communications Commission: Finalizing video material for ASUB and promotional items for A.S. are hopefully coming in the Spring. Finishing tabling this week. Working with the Student Support Commission to promote and market the resource guide in the Spring.

IX. ANNOUNCEMENT 

  1. Kat Hernandez: please be mindful when trying to outreach to new communities, we should not be “targeting” groups but making a welcoming environment for all communities. 
  2. Sam Lingao: It is Filipino heritage month and the Garden is celebrating with traditional Filipino foods. 
  3. Mike Mananagan: Tomorrow in the union courtyard there is a student night market from 4-9 p.m.
