I. CALL TO ORDER

A.S. Vice President of University Affairs, Ally Gallant, called the meeting to order at 3:34 p.m. in the Council Chambers at the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union, on behalf of Sam Lingao.

V. PUBLIC COMMENT

Public comments were made regarding the humanitarian crisis in Palestine and Israel and student safety concerns regarding the increase in Islamophobia and Anti-Semitism.

VI. UNIVERSITY REPORTS AND PRESENTATIONS 

  1. SDSU Vice President of Student Affairs Designee: With the increase in medical transport incidents on campus the President has reconvened the President’s Task Force on Safety. Encourages student leaders to look at the task force’s recommendations from
    the 2019-202 school year to understand what was learned about student behaviors and how to address issues now. There will be student representation on this task force.
  2. SDSU as a Hispanic Serving Institution Presentation - Dr. Emilio Ulloa, Associate Chief Diversity Officer of HSI and Regional Affairs (Time Certain 3:45 p.m.)
    Dr. Emilio Ulloa presented information about SDSU as a Hispanic Serving Institution and how our goals and missions are being developed to pursue higher standards of excellence.
  3. Financial Resources Presentation - SDSU Student Account Services and Cal Coast Financial Aid Center (Time Certain 4 p.m.)
    The Financial Aid Center gave a presentation about an overview of the financial aid departments workings following the my.SDSU transition. Representatives engaged in a discussion about how to improve issues students are facing.
  4. Aztecs Rock Hunger - Leo Pena, A.S. Vice President of Financial Affairs (Immediately after Financial Resources Presentation)
    Leo Pena presented an Aztecs Rock Hunger overview and explained the “teams” the Representatives will be participating in.

  1. General Consent Agenda (Action):
    It was moved and seconded to approve the General Consent Agenda.

  2. Selection of CLC Member on the ASJAC Vacancy Ad-Hoc Committee (Action)
    It was moved and seconded to approve Kareen Holstrom to act as the main and Janine Ezomo to serve as the alternate for the ASJAC Vacancy Ad-Hoc Committee.

  3. Mid-Semester CLC Evaluation and Next Steps (Information)
    CLC representatives completed an evaluation and next step worksheet.

VIII. REPORTS OF CAMPUS LIFE COUNCIL MEMBERS

  1. Sam Lingao, Executive Vice President: Recently added to SDSU’s Blue Ribbon Task Force for Gender Based Violence. If this is a topic anyone is interested in, reach out to Sam. Also joining the reconvening Task Force for Student Activities and Safety, it is now meeting again to address concerns on campus. Thursday’s Together there will be “Which Wich” from 1:30-3 p.m.
  2. Tarek Morsy, President: November 3rd will be the A.S. career initiative kickoff.
  3. Melvin Ridley III, Vice President of External Relations: Encouraged everyone to download the SDSU Safe App. Working to get local councilmen and assembly members to come to the A.S. External Relation Board events. Working with Rock the Vote to develop social media campaigns. Anyone interested in an advisory board with Strategic Communications reach out to Melvin.
  4. Leo Pena, Vice President of Financial Affairs: Please help promote Aztecs Rock Hunger.
  5. Ally Gallant, Vice President of University Affairs: A newsletter about the A.S. career initiative was posted by the Daily Aztec and everyone is encouraged to read it.
  6. Patricio Silva, ASBOD Student-At-Large: No report.
  7. Gianna Salazar, ASBOD Student-At-Large: No report.
  8. Kailey Quezada, ASBOD Student-At-Large: The Vice President of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity open forum is tomorrow at 9:15 a.m. in the State Suite.
  9.  Christina Brown, Executive Director: Mainly working towards making sure the November 3rd kick off event is a success.
  10. Brian Levett, Government Affairs Assistant Director: Working on the A.S. Alumni Chapter, and there are two meetings so far. They are hoping to create a mentorship program and get alumni to come to Homecoming.
  11. Aztec Student Union Board (ASUB): Association of College Unions International (ACUI) conference is upcoming and ASUB Leadership will be attending. ‘Golden Galleria’ event will be tomorrow from 6-8 p.m. and the ‘Tasty Tunes’ event had 196 people participate in the event yesterday.
  12. Community Service Commission (CSC): All CSC meeting times for the rest of the month will be used to volunteer for Aztecs Rock Hunger. Tomorrow the commission will be meeting to elect open positions.
  13. Campus Community Commission (CCC): Starting to launch the rideshare safety campaign, the first action item will be to create an informational video in collaboration with UPD and Strategic Communications. The first Good Neighbor Cleanup will be 11/12.
  14. Recreation and Wellness Commission: Planning the Mending Minds events to be in February. Will be reaching out to A.S. to plan joint events in the coming weeks. Hoping to do a push week throughout the whole semester and not just one week.
  15. Student Diversity Commission (SDC): Continuing to work on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) plan and presentation for residential halls.
  16. Student Support Commission (SSC): The big project of the semester will be the resource guide. Recreation and Wellness gave a presentation at their last meeting.
  17. Green Love/Sustainability Commission: Last meeting, Christy Samarkos came to the meeting to have a discussion about ways to make SDSU’s campus more sustainable. The Swap Shop is tomorrow from 12-4:30 p.m. and they are in need of volunteers.
  18. Campus Life Council Student-at-Large, Jasmin Zeis-Khalil: Working to cultivate community and expand the CLC event calendar. The CLC of the week is to recycle three things on campus.
  19. Campus Life Council Student-at-Large, Nadia Dedgeba: No report.
  20. Marketing and Communications Commission: None.

IX. ANNOUNCEMENTS

  1. Malia Arpon announced that the high school Pacific Islander Student Association (PISA) conference will be 11/3 and there is a need for volunteers.
  2. Kailey Quezada announced that there will be a Pechanga on 10/19 from 5-9 p.m.
  3. Kat Hernandez encouraged everyone to try and thrift Halloween costumes rather than ordering from Amazon.
  4. Tarek Morsy announced that Sam Lingao has been working hard on Homecoming.
  5. Kareen Holstrom announced that her sorority will be having a philanthropy event on Saturday to 9-11 a.m.
