I. CALL TO ORDER

A.S. Executive Vice President, Sam Lingao, called the meeting to order at 3:32 p.m. in the Council Chambers at the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union.

V. PUBLIC COMMENT

-

  1. Sharon Sabino gave a public comment on behalf of “Movimiento Estudiantil Chicanx de Aztlán SDSU” speaking against the tuition increase stating it will have consequences on law income and marginalized communities. Action is needed on behalf of the LatinX community. 

VI. UNIVERSITY REPORTS AND PRESENTATIONS

  1. SDSU Vice President of Student Affairs Designee: The search for the new Vice President of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity is ongoing. Emails have been sent to students to attend open forums with potential candidates. The E-gaming center’s construction is now underway and is hoping to be open and functioning within the next few weeks. 
  2. Judicial Affairs Council Update - Victor Plunkett, A.S. Chief Justice (Time Certain: 3:35 p.m.)
    Chief Justice Plunkett gave an overview of requirements for council members.
  3. University Police Department (UPD) Update - Raquel Herriott, Public Information Officer (Time Certain: 3:45 p.m.)
    Raquel Herriott gave a presentation about the University Police Department and various safety initiatives they are working on currently. 
  4. Tuition Increase - Katie Olivo, Director of Budget & Finance, Business & Financial Affairs (Time Certain: 4 p.m.)
    Katie Olivo gave a presentation about the CSU tuition increase. 

VII. ITEMS FOR CONSIDERATION

  2. Board of Directors CLC Commission Appointments (Information)
    Sam Lingao reviewed the ASBOD Student-at-Large members appointments to Campus Life Council Commissions. 

     

  3. CLC of the Week - Nadia and Jasmin, CLC Student at Large (Information)
    Nadia and Jasmin reviewed their work with Sam Lingao this week. Proposed a Community Leader Challenge for the next two weeks to promote leaders uplifting others. 

VIII. REPORTS OF CAMPUS LIFE COUNCIL MEMBERS

  1. Sam Lingao, Executive Vice President: Working on Homecoming and planned events are now on the website. Working with the athletics department on tickets for the next basketball season's games. Encouraged everyone to fill out the Artificial Intelligence survey that was sent out to students. 
  2. Tarek Morsy, President: No report. 
  3. Melvin Ridley III, Vice President of External Relations: Working alongside Campus Community Commission about safety initiatives. Rock the Vote is starting tabling soon. 
  4. Leo Pena, Vice President of Financial Affairs: Finalized the Aztecs Rock Hunger tabling schedule. Planning a concession stand during the parent’s weekend football game where proceeds go to ARH. A QR code will be shown on Snapdragon’s screens during parents weekend where people can donate. 
  5. Ally Gallant, Vice President of University Affairs: The Banned Book Read-Out is next week on 10/4, where you can read an excerpt from a banned book. 
  6. Patricio Silva, ASBOD Student-At-Large: No report. 
  7. Gianna Salazar, ASBOD Student-At-Large: No report. 
  8. Kailey Quezada, ASBOD Student-At-Large: No report. 
  9. Christina Brown, Executive Director: If anyone is aware of graduate students who would like to sit on an advisory board, please contact Christina. Working alongside Tarek to continue developing career goals. A.S. is looking to book more third party conferences and help fundraise more. 
  10. Brian Levett, Government Affairs Assistant Director: The First Year Leadership Initiative students have been selected by Philip Bury, within the coming weeks he will be working with the commissions to place students within their commissions. 
  11. Aztec Student Union Board (ASUB): Encouraged collaboration between commissions and ASUB sub-committees. There is a national leadership conference in November that ASUB leaders will be attending. The GreenFest theme will be “There is no Planet B”. Various events are ongoing this week and previous events have had great turn out. 
  12. Community Service Commission (CSC): Community Service Fair will be 11-12 p.m. tomorrow in the Aztec Student Union. 
  13. Campus Community Commission (CCC): Creating a rideshare safety video as well as infographics. The first Good Neighbor Clean-up will be 11/12. 
  14. Recreation and Wellness Commission: Starting to brainstorm for the Mending Minds campaign in the spring. Adapted Athletics is hosting a “lift-a-thon” this weekend. 
  15. Student Diversity Commission (SDC): Focusing on addressing diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in the residential halls in order to promote inclusivity. Working on creating a presentation for students living in residence halls. 
  16. Student Support Commission (SSC): The meeting time has been rescheduled to 12:30 p.m. moving forward. Looking to have collaboration with other commissions to highlight available resources to students. 
  17. Green Love/Sustainability Commission: The Green Lunch Bag series event went amazing, there were two speakers and a panel discussion. October 12th is the A.S. Swap Shop and the event is in need of volunteers. Greenfest is starting to be planned. 
  18. Campus Life Council Student-at-Large, Jasmin Zeis-Khalil: The event spreadsheet has an option to select help and if needed Jasmin is always available to assist any commission or council. 
  19. Campus Life Council Student-at-Large, Nadia Dedgeba: No report. 
  20. Marketing and Communications Commission: Commission is working on A.S. promotional items and finalizing spring calendars. A.S. tabling will be beginning shortly. 

IX. ANNOUNCEMENTS 

  1. Sam Lingao announced that everyone should express an attitude of gratitude.
  2. Kat Hernandez announced that Hispanic Heritage month is being celebrated at the Garden tomorrow. On October 4th MTS is offering a free ride day. 
  3. Janine Ezomo announced that this week is wellness week at the Afrikan Student Union.
  4. Kailey Quezada announced that there will be a Pachanga on 10/19 from 5-9 p.m. to celebrate Hispanic Heritage month. The Hispanic Serving Institute Advisory Board will be having its third general body meeting.
