I. CALL TO ORDER 

A.S. Executive Vice President, Meena Alexander, called the meeting to order at 3:32 p.m. in the Council Chambers at the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union.

II. ROLL CALL 

  1. V. PUBLIC COMMENT

  1. Austin Barber: Excited to be back at the Campus Life Council.
  2. Christophe, Careen, and Sabrina provided an introduction and that they have been attending A.S. meetings and student organization meetings.

VI. UNIVERSITY REPORTS AND PRESENTATIONS 

  1. SDSU Vice President of Student Affairs Designee, Dr. Aniesha Mitchell:
    1. There are various positions being filled around the university such as the LRC Director position.
    2. SDSU is handling multiple incidents around campus and welcomes students to ask questions.
    3. The next SDSU Go trip will be at Balboa Park on Saturday, 10/15
  2. Advocacy Presentation - Robson Winter, A.S. Vice President of External Relations, and Beth Bridges, A.S. Shared Governance Assistant
    1. Rob and Beth presented general tips on how how to best advocate for students and present yourself in meetings with university leaders

VII. ITEMS FOR CONSIDERATION

    It was moved and seconded to approve the general consent agenda.

    The council members discussed potential discussion points for the council to engage in for future meetings.

VIII. REPORTS OF CAMPUS LIFE COUNCIL MEMBERS 

  1. Meena Alexander, Executive Vice President:
    1. Council Member One-on-Ones will be biweekly
    2. Please check the Student Interest Form every week.
    3. Your Mental Health Matters interviews have been completed.
    4. SDSU Homecoming is coming up, a comprehensive calendar will be presented to the council soon.
  2. Shawki Moore, President:
    1. Thank you all for coming to the October 7th event.
    2. Spoke at the Family Weekend brunch
  3. Robson Winter, Vice President of External Relations:
    1. 68 completed Walk Arounds, 14 more scheduled
    2. Rock the Vote: voter registration deadline in California is October 24th for the Nov 8th election, a number of candidates will be speaking on campus
  4. Sophia Koch, Vice President of Financial Affairs:
    1. To promote Aztecs Rock Hunger (ARH), Shawki and Sophia will be in a dunk-tank, look out for more details 
    2. Campus Program Funding Committee  is recruiting students, please join them on Wednesdays at noon.
    3. All students are welcome to the Financial Affairs Committee.
  5. Sandy Mekany, Vice President of University Affairs: 
    1. Your Voice Matters Push Week is Nov 14-18
    2. A.S. reached out to students impacted by the mold concerns in residence halls
    3. Introduced a Shared Governance Resolution in the A.S. University Council., if anyone has input on the resolution, please contact Sandy.
  6. Mayah Taylor, ASBOD Student-At-Large: ARH is starting on Friday. encourage you all to get involved. ARH Kickoff on Monday at noon, bring cans!  Tuesday the 18th, student competitions information session.  Follow the Instagram account (aztecsrockhunger) for more info.
  7. Bianca Shaw, ASBOD Student-At-Large: No report.
  8. Ava Grell, ASBOD Student-At-Large: No report. 
  9. Christina Brown, Executive Director: 
    1. Thank you to everyone for coming to the October 7th event.
    2. Launching an A.S. Alumni LinkedIn and affinity group
    3. Regarding the campus committees you all sit on, please let us know if you have questions and concerns.
  10. Aztec Student Union Board (ASUB):
    1. Presented their budget to the Financial Affairs Committee.
    2. ASUB will be tabling for all of A.S.
    3. Working on recruitment efforts.
    4. Homecoming events are beginning on Oct 31.
    5. Working on proposing and approving spring events.
    6. Almost at 5,000 followers on Instagram.
  11.  Community Service Commission (CSC):
    1. Completed their second Mobile Blood Drive, working to support the Nov 6th Blood Drive.
    2. Getting the commission involved in Aztec Rock Hunger (ARH) competitions.
    3. Working on a collaborative event with Green Love.
  12. Campus Community Commission (CCC): 
    1. Good Neighbor Clean Up in October.
    2. Working to bring back the Campus Safety Committee.
    3. Looking for collaborations for the next Good Neighbor Clean Up.
    4. Elected the CCC secretary and Project Lead today.
  13. Recreation and Wellness Commission:
    1. 10/13 7-10 p.m. is Aztec Recreation Center (ARC) Fest, lots of activities for students
    2. Oct 27th basketball event for all students to participate in
    3. 20,194 students have activated their ARC accounts.
    4. On average, 5,000 facility entries a day.
    5.ARC has been rated as one of the most accessible gyms in the country.
  14. Student Diversity Commission (SDC):
    1. Multiple Islamophobic hate crimes occurred on campus in the last week.
    2. Having open discussion about the use of the Aztec moniker as the mascot conversation in the Native Resource Center (NRC) next week.
  15. Student Support Commission (SSC):
    1. In two weeks the Basic Needs Center will be opening.
    2. The tabling hours for the Food Pantry 10:30-1:30 p.m. on Wednesdays.
    3. Will be electing a Commuter Student Board Chair next week.
    4. Week of Oct 24th is CalFresh outreach week
  16. Green Love/Sustainability Commission:
    1. There are conversations about the principles of sustainability and how they can be implemented.
    2. The Snapdragon sustainability tour is scheduled on Friday, 12/10.
    Sustainability Center - working on communicating the history of Green Love
    3. upcoming Community Service collaboration
    4. Hosted a Food Pantry training in their last meeting
  17. Campus Life Council Student-at-Large: 
    1. Shared various marketing gaps students have noted around campus
    2. Have been presenting in RSOs about A.S. Board, Councils, and Committees
    3. Tarek and Phillip meeting with Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) experts to work on a presentation promoting responsible behaviors.
    4. Partnering with Wellbeing and Health Promotion
  18. Marketing and Communications Commission:
    1. Weekly tabling is happening until Nov 14, this is general tabling to get students involved in A.S., all are welcome to join them
    2. Will have a member of the month to help with retention

IX. ANNOUNCEMENTS 

  1. Tarek: ‘In the Mix’ will be collaborating with ASUB.
  2. Philip: This Friday, 2-4 p.m., Beach Clean up with Noah Memorial Fund at Mission Beach, all are welcome
  3. Charlie: Finance and Investment Society is a wonderful RSO, Charlie encourages students to get involved in, they meet on Tuesdays from 7 - 8:30 p.m.
  4. Lexi: Indigenous People’s Day on Monday, Native Resource Center (NRC) is doing a week of action-orientated events. Latinx Resource Center (LRC) event on Friday 10/14
  5. Bianca: Alzheimer's Walk at 9 pm, UCSD Picking and Politicking event. Homecoming Yard Show is three weeks away, Nov 4th
  6. Noah: Collecting donations for refugees, looking to collaborate with fraternities, sororities, and other campus organizations
  7. Sandy: Invited members to her sorority’s annual pancake event, donate $3 for unlimited pancakes, all their philanthropy goes to ‘Girls on the Run’
  8. Meena: shared a Toni Morrison quote about freedom and empowerment
