I. CALL TO ORDER

A.S. President Tarek Morsy called the meeting to order at 3:39 p.m. 

II. ROLL CALL

III. APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA

It was moved and seconded to move the Items for Consideration around to accommodate for Christina Brown’s schedule.

VI. PRESENTATIONS AND UNIVERSITY REPORTS 

  1. Business and Financial Affairs Designee, Jessica Rentto, reported on the following: No report. 

  2. University President’s Designee, Brittany Santos-Derieg, reported on the following: The California State University system decided to move forward with one of SDSU’s proposed legislations, which looks to allow the CSU to receive tax credits to build workforce housing.

    It was moved and seconded to approve the general consent agenda.

  3. Selection of ASBOD Member on ASJAC Vacancy Ad-Hoc Committee 23/24 (Action)
    It was moved and seconded to approve Patricio Silva to serve as the main and Palni Bhatt to serve as the alternate.

  4.  Oaxaca Immersion Program Update (Information)
     The Oaxaca Immersion Program information was reviewed. 

     

  5. International Travel Scholarships (Information)
    The International Travel Scholarship information was reviewed. 

     

  6. Graduate Student Advisory Committee Update (Information)
    Christina Brown gave an update about the Graduate Student Advisory Committee. 

     

  7.  A.S. Alumni Chapter Update (Information)
    Christina Brown gave an update about the relaunching of the A.S. Alumni Chapter. 

VIII. EXECUTIVE REPORTS

  1. A.S. President, Tarek Morsy: Career Advantage has been decided as the final name for the A.S. career initiative. There will be various important figures there such as alumni, career services, and professional headshots. 
  2. Executive Vice President, Sam Lingao: Continuing to work on Homecoming, they are in need of volunteers for various events during Homecoming week. Recently joined a task force for student activities and safety. Campus Life Council will have a presentation about financial resources available to students after the tuition increase. 
  3. Vice President of External Relations, Melvin Ridley III: SB64 was vetoed by Governor Gavin Newsom. The External Relations Board and Lobby Corp are planning an event for the second week of November and are hoping to get a local councilman to come. Working to put together a Civil Engagement board to advise various entities on campus. 
  4. Vice President of Financial Affairs, Leo Pena: Aztecs Rock Hunger campaign launches on Friday. Please volunteer for pie a person and the dunk tank. 
  5. Vice President of University Affairs, Ally Gallant: The banned book read out was a successful event. The University Council recently had a discussion about automated waitlists versus manual for class registration. Please reach out if you know any students interested in the Graduate Student Advisory Committee.
  6. Executive Director, Christina Brown: No report. 

IX. BOARD OF DIRECTOR STUDENT AT LARGE REPORTS 

  1. Student-at-Large, Kailey Quezada: Having conversations with Christy Samarkos to ensure the new Vice President of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity continues valuing the Hispanic Student Institution's advisory board mission.
  2. Student-at-Large, Gianna Salazar: Attending meetings about the Reborder Conference regarding events in Tijuana. 
  3. Student-at-Large, Derrick Herrera: In October, Derrick and Palni will be bringing an information item to the Judicial Affairs Council to talk about having the land acknowledgement at every meeting. 
  4. Student-at-Large, Patricio Silva: Working closely with Campus Community Commission to produce a rideshare safety video. The first Good Neighbor clean up will be 11/12. 
  5. Student-at-Large, Palni Bhatt: The Diversity Equity and Inclusion University Senate committee had their first meeting recently. 
  6. Student-at-Large, Alex Inglis: Lighting in the neighborhoods around campus is slowly being fixed to address dangerous areas. 

X. ANNOUNCEMENTS 

  1.  There will be a Panchanga on 10/19 in the union courtyard. TJ Homebuild is having a general body meeting on Thursday from 7-8 p.m. in Park Blvd.
