I. CALL TO ORDER

A.S. President Tarek Morsy called the meeting to order at 3:36 p.m.

II. ROLL CALL

  3. Non-Voting Members Present: Isabella Todd, Christina Brown, Janice Dils
  4. Non-Voting Members Absent: None.

III. APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA

It was moved and seconded to approve the agenda for August 28, 2023.

IV. PUBLIC COMMENT- NONE

V. PRESENTATIONS AND UNIVERSITY REPORTS

  1. Business and Financial Affairs Designee, Jessica Rentto, reported on the following: The university did not sustain much water damage due to the tropical storm, there was minimal water intrusion but no significant damage. There was a school wide safety notification due to a sexual assault that happened over the weekend, the case is being handled by SDPD so the administration has minimal information but is looking for ways to increase student safety on the weekends.
  2. University President’s Designee, Brittany Santos-Derieg, reported on the following: The SDSU legislative proposals are due on September 6th, there are 6-7 items on the list already that involve things such as housing, foster youth, and graduate students. 
    The search for the new College of Arts and Letters Dean will begin and Tarek Morsy will sit on the committee. William Tong will remain the interim Provost until the open Vice President positions for Student Affairs and Campus Diversity are filled. 
  3. Psychiatric Crisis Assessment Support Team (P-CAST) and Social Work Unit Introduction- Corporal Mark Peterson and Irma Murphy, SDSU Police Department (Time Certain 3:45 p.m.): The Board of Directors received a presentation regarding updates and information about the University Police Department’s Psychiatric Crisis Assessment Support Team.

VII. EXECUTIVE REPORTS

  1. A.S. President, Tarek Morsy: The executive officer goal for advancing student careers is unfolding and will continue to progress in the following weeks. On 9/19, the strategic plan from Career Services will come out and they are working with Tarek to determine A.S. role in careers. 
  2. Executive Vice President, Sam Lingao: The A.S. Mixer was last Friday and was very successful in getting new students interested in joining Associated Students. Planning meetings for SDSU’s Homecoming are ongoing. Tonight there will be the ARC ‘Til Dark event from 5-7 p.m. and Green Love will be tabling there. ASCLC will be looking for collaborative partners for this upcoming year.
  3. Vice President of External Relations, Melvin Ridley III: External Relations Board (ERB) is working on a proposal that will educate students on the proposed tuition increase from the CSU Chancellor’s office. Melvin is working on his California State Student Association proposals. Rock the Vote initiative is beginning to get started. 
  4. Vice President of Financial Affairs, Leo Pena: The first Aztecs Rock Hunger (ARH) leadership team meeting was held today. Leo will be meeting with ECRT and Aztec Shops to see how they can assist Aztecs Rock Hunger this year. Monday was the first Financial Affairs Committee meeting as well. 
  5. Vice President of University Affairs, Ally Gallant: The first AAC meeting was today. Justice Herrera, the Shared Governance Assistant, and Ally are working to place students on the University Senate committees. The first UAB meeting will be held Friday at 10 a.m.
  6. Executive Director, Christina Brown: Christina is excited that Brittany is sitting on this board again to further help encourage student advocacy. 

VIII. BOARD OF DIRECTOR STUDENT AT LARGE REPORTS

  1. Student-at-Large, Kailey Quezada: The Tijuana Home Build meeting will be on Thursday from 7-8 p.m. in Park Boulevard.. 
  2. Student-at-Large, Gianna Salazar: Many students have reported being late to receive financial aid, Gianna suggested posting reminders of available resources to students who are financially struggling right now. 
  3. Student-at-Large, Derrick Herrera: Regarding Gianna’s report, Derrick has also noticed many students that financial aid has been recharged after already being applied and distributed. Both grants and financial aid have been withheld from students.
  4. Student-at-Large, Patricio Silva: Patricio reported that for students who are studying abroad they are waiting multiple months for their financial aid and having to pay out of pocket.
