- Election Promotion Discussion: Shawki Moore wanted to hold a conversation centered around A.S. elections and how the marketing to students is affecting their desire to run for A.S. positions. There were multiple suggestions to advance the timeline of advertising elections for A.S. and adding an emphasis that anyone can run for any position. Meena Alexander also suggested that there is an All Council meeting that is held and marketed to the public to answer questions about what each position actually does. Shawki’s overall summary of the conversation consisted of holding a town hall meeting to explain elected positions, better marketing in terms of timeline and intentional marketing to all students, and making elections feel more individualized.
- Viewpoint Neutrality Policy Changes: Sophia Koch gave a brief presentation on the Viewpoint Neutrality Changes that are being implemented at SDSU. During this past spring San Diego State University was audited for its student fees, and it applied to the Associated Students use of student fees, the audit found that the existing standards fit within the policy but the wording did not meet standards. The practices of A.S. will not change just the wording of the policy.
- A.S. Judicial Affairs Council Update: Chief Justice Jordan Valdez gave a brief mid semester update about ongoing things the Judicial Affairs Council is handling. Jordan gave the council a reminder about requirements and their due dates and there is only about 30% of representative submission. JAC has amended the requirement for AS walkarounds and they will now be evaluated on a case by case basis in order to keep representatives accountable for time spent. JAC had also received one amendment from the Children’s Center that will be voted on at the next meeting.
