I. CALL TO ORDER 

A.S. President Shawki Moore called the meeting to order at 3:34 p.m. 

II. ROLL CALL 

  1. Voting Members Present: Shawki Moore, Meena Alexander, Robson Winter, Sophia Koch, Sandy Mekany, Ava Grell, Ava Walker, Mayah Taylor, Grace DeVega
  2. Voting Members Absent: Bianca Shaw, Brandon Bartosh
  3. Non-Voting Members Present: Isabella Todd, Christina Brown, Jessica Rentto, Dr. Aniesha Mitchell
  4. Non-Voting Members Absent: Dr. J. Luke Wood, Christy Samarkos

III. APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA 

It was moved and seconded to approve the agenda for October 10, 2022.

IV. APPROVAL OF PREVIOUS MINUTES 

Approval of the previous minutes was tabled due to the previous minutes not being added in the agenda packet.

VI. UNIVERSITY REPORTS AND PRESENTATIONS 

  1. Business and Financial Affairs Designee, Jessica Rentto: None.
  2. University President’s Designee, Dr. Aniesha Mitchell: 
    Gave thanks to all who participated in parents weekend. There is no current update from UPD on the racially biased incidents that occurred on campus last week. Holds will begin to be added to student accounts who still have payments owed to the school without established payment plans, which is about 800 students. There is a proposed fee for non-resident students that ASBOD members are encouraged to be a part of the conversation.
  3. A.S. Business Services Department- Patty Rea, Associate Executive Director, and Carlos Careaga, A.S. Finance Director (Tie Certain 3:45 p.m.)
    The A.S. Business department gave a brief introduction to their department and the various staff members that help A.S. function.

IX. BOARD OF DIRECTORS COMMITTEE REPORTS 

  1. Audit Committee: None.
  2. Facilities Committee: None.
  3.  Financial Affairs Committee (FAC): None.
  4. Marketing and Communications Committee: None. 

X. EXECUTIVE REPORTS 

  1. President, Shawki Moore:
    1. The October 7th event was wonderful as well as parents weekend where Shawki gave a speech.
    2. Shawki just got back from Washington D.C. where he received the Seal of Excelencia on behalf of SDSU. 
    3. The shared governance initiative was introduced to the University Council and still has two votes to pass. Associated Students has not passed new resolutions in a few years so it is important to support this initiative. 
  2. Executive Vice President, Meena Alexander:
    1. The Homecoming Court for this year was revealed and congratulations to Sophia for being nominated.
    2. Your Mental Health Matters initiative will begin within the next week now that interviews are complete. 
    3. Planning the National Panhellenic Council Yard Show as well as homecoming so any questions should be directed to her. 
  3. Vice President of External Relations, Robson Winter: 
    1. It is an eventful month for Rock the Vote with lots of tabling scheduled to get word out to students. 
    2. Rock the Vote (RTV) will be spending at least three hours in each Residential community in effort to get students registered to vote. 
    3. In the process of scheduling four events for local candidates to come speak about the importance of voting to students. 
  4. Vice President of Financial Affairs, Sophia Koch: 
    1. Aztecs Rock Hunger starts this Friday, graphics will be sent out to spread the word to students.
    2. There will be a kickoff event on Monday from 12-2 p.m. in the Union courtyard where a canned food drive will take place.
  5. Vice President of University Affairs, Sandy Mekany:
    1. The Your Voice Matters push week will be 11/14-11/18.  There will be notebooks, stickers, and pens coming in to help promote Your Voice Matters to students. 
    2. There have been concerns about the living conditions of residential communities and Sandy is scheduling time to help resolve students issues. 
    3. At the University Affairs Board (UAB( this Thursday multiple positions (Vice Chair, Your Voice Matters Chair, and Secretary) will be elected. 
    4. Organizing a Dean’s panel during the University Council’s meeting during the Your Voice Matters push week. 
  6. Executive Director, Christina Brown: 
    1.   Happy that everyone enjoyed the events over the past weekend, and the two events exceeded expectations including the number of alumni that attended. 

    2.    If there are any graduate students that would want to be involved with GSA they are recruiting more graduate students to participate, the meetings are held every other Monday. 

XI. REPORTS OF BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEMBERS 

  1. ASBOD Student at Large, Ava Grell: None. 
  2. ASBOD Student at Large, Ava Walker: None. 
  3. ASBOD Student at Large, Mayah Taylor: The event on Friday left everyone with good memories and a greater connection to Associated Students as a whole. 
  4. ASBOD Student at Large, Grace DeVega: None. 

XII. ANNOUNCEMENTS 

  1. Ava Walker announced that she is working in conjunction with the Afrikan Student Union President to help students voice their worries due to an incident in an African American studies course.
