I.  CALL TO ORDER

A.S. President, Shawki Moore, called the meeting to order at 3:05 p.m.

II.  ROLL CALL

III.  APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA

It was moved and seconded to approve the A.S. Board of Directors meeting agenda for June 1, 2022.

IV.  APPROVAL OF PREVIOUS MINUTES

It was moved and seconded to approve the previous minutes of ASBOD 5/2, A.S. All Council meetings on 5/4 and Special ASBOD on 5/9.

V.  PRESENTATIONS AND UNIVERSITY REPORTS

  1. Business and Financial Affairs Designee: No report.
  2. University President’s Designee:  Dr. Aniesha Mitchell reported on behalf of Dr. J. Luke Wood:
    1. Provided an update about the Graduate Student Experience Program (GSEP) and regarding the Graduate Student Health Insurance Program (GSHIP).
  3. Aztec Recreation Presentation - Mark Zakrzewski, Associate Executive Director (Time Certain 3:15 p.m.)
    Mark Zakrzewski presented an overview of the Aztec Recreation department, which includes the Aztec Recreation Center/Express, Aztec Aquaplex, Competitive Sports, Outdoor Programs, Mission Bay Aquatic Center, and Adaptive Athletics.  
  4. University Organization Chart Presentation - Jessica Rentto, Senior Associate Vice President for Business and Financial Affairs (Time Certain 3:45 p.m.)
    Jessica Rentto reviewed the San Diego State University organization chart, which includes the Office of the President, Academic Affairs, Business and Financial Affairs, Research and Innovation, Student Affairs and Campus Diversity, and University Relations and Development.  

VII.  ITEMS FOR CONSIDERATION

  1. Icebreaker - Shawki Moore, A.S. President 
  2. General Consent Agenda (Action) - None.
  3. General Consent Report (Information) - The General Consent Agenda was reviewed.
  4. Financial Affairs Committee (FAC) Travel Requests (Action)
    Sophia Koch, A.S. Vice President of Financial Affairs, reviewed the four recognized student organization (RSO) travel requests from the:
    1. Black Social Work Association
      It was moved and seconded to approve the Black Social Work Association travel request for $1,200.

    4. Women in Science

      It was moved to seconded to approve SACNAS, SoundWave, and Women in Science travel requests for $1,200 each.

VIII.  CLOSED SESSION (Closed to Non-Members) - None.

IX.  BOARD OF DIRECTORS COMMITTEE REPORTS: None.

X.  EXECUTIVE REPORTS

  1. President - Shawki Moore reported on the following:
    1. Working on transition with Ashley.
    2. Spoke at the SDSU Unsung Heroes event.
    3. Met with the Student Affairs and Campus Diversity Leadership at the Faculty/Staff Club.
    4. Working on hiring and onboarding a new A.S. Chief of Staff and A.S. Shared Governance Assistant.
    5. We are hiring for the Government Secretary position if you know anyone who would be interested.
    6. Planning on appointing an A.S. Chief Justice during the summer.
    7. Will attend the California State University (CSU) Juneteenth event and on the planning committee for the SDSU Juneteenth event on Friday, June 17.
    8. Planning on meeting one-on-one with the student-at-large members on the ASBOD.
  2. Executive Vice President - Meena Alexander reported on the following:
    1. Working on the A.S. table at all the New Student Orientations.
    2. Please RSVP for the Fall Retreat – I will send a QR code.
    3. At the SDSU Juneteenth event, there will be fun events and a food truck on Friday, June 17.
  3. Vice President of External Relations - Robson Winter reported on the following:
    1. Vote in the primary election on June 7.  SDSU will have a Vote Center in the Montezuma Hall.
    2. If you are interested in civic engagement, please contact me.
      Working on the A.S. Instagram.
  4. Vice President of Financial Affairs - Sophia Koch reported on the following:
    1. Planning the Aztecs Rock Hunger annual initiative and food drive.
    2. Working and training with Carlos Careaga, A.S. Finance Director.
  5. Vice President of University Affairs - Sandy Mekany reported on the following:
    1. Transitioned with Jennifer Schenkenfelder last week.
    2. Working with the incoming College Council Presidents.
    3. Met with an Interdisciplinary Studies in Three Departments (IS3D) student.
  6. Executive Director - Christina Brown reported on the following:
    1. Provided an update on A.S. operations to include Viejas Arena and Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theater, SDSU Children’s Center, and Aztec Recreation Center & Mission Bay Aquatic Center.
    2. Provided an update on the importance of reviewing the minutes from any A.S. board, committee, commission or College Council.  
    3. Will schedule one-on-one check-ins in July with all student-at-large members.
    4. Please ensure you can attend the July 6 A.S. Board of Directors meeting.
