A.S. President Ashley Tejada called the meeting to order at 3:33 p.m.

VI. UNIVERSITY REPORTS AND PRESENTATIONS

  1. Business and Financial Affairs Designee:  No report.
  2. University President’s Designee: Dr. Luke Wood reported on the following:
    1. Preparing a Hispanic Student Institution (HSI) designation of excellence application to be sent to Washington D.C.
    2. Provided an update regarding the College Area in relation to weekend activities.
    3. Provided an update regarding mask protocols in the spring.
    4. Provided an update regarding the upcoming holidays, Thanksgiving and Christmas, in relation to COVID testing.
    5. Provided an update regarding a new cultural center at the Imperial Valley campus.
  3. University Police Department Presentation - Chief Joshua Mays and Captain Mike Hastings (Time Certain 3:45 p.m.):  Postpone until another ASBOD meeting.
  4. Student Success Fee Presentation - Review of Training - Rashmi Praba, Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Campus Diversity (Time Certain 4:15 p.m.)
    Rashmi Praba introduced the Student Success Fee Team.  Michelle Halverson and Craig Winton presented information on the current open cycle for the Student Success Fee application opportunity for all SDSU students.

VII. ITEMS FOR CONSIDERATION

  1. General Consent Agenda (Action)
    It was moved and seconded to approve the General Consent Agenda of 9/27/21 which included minutes from the Audit Committee (9/10/21), Financial Affairs Committee (9/13/21), and Marketing & Communications Committee (9/8/21).

  2.  General Consent Report (Information)
    The General Consent Report was reviewed, which included minutes of the University Council (9/8/21) and the Judicial Affairs Council (9/10/21 and 9/17/21). 
  3. 403b Compliance and Audit - Patty Rea, Associate Executive Director and Carlos Careaga, Finance Director (Action) (Time Certain 4:30 p.m.):
    It was moved and seconded to approve the initial cost for the 403b compliance and audit review.

  4. A.S. Letter in Response to Assembly Bill 1456 - Shawki Moore, A.S. Vice President of External Relations (Action) (Time Certain 4:45 p.m.)
    Robson Winter, A.S. Lobby Corps Chair, provided information on the A.S. letter in response to Assembly Bill (AB) 1456.
    It was moved and seconded to approve A.S. Letter in response to AB 1456, as presented.

X. EXECUTIVE REPORTS: 

  1. President: Ashley Tejada reported on the following:
    1. Attended the Aztec Shops Board of Directors meeting.
    2. The second Lemonade with President Adela de la Torre went well and the theme was ‘mental health’.
    3. There were 150 First Year Leadership Initiative (FLI) applications.
    4. Had a one-on-one with President de la Torre.
    5. Attended University meetings to include the Honorary Naming Task Force.
    6. Suicide Awareness handout this Wednesday of ribbons and flyers with resources.
    7. Will have the Graduate Student Association planning meeting regarding the upcoming town halls regarding graduate student health insurance.
    8. Beth has planned a BOD dinner for next Monday at 4:45 p.m.
  2. Executive Vice President: Karina Esteban reported on the following:
    1. The Homecoming theme reveal is happening soon via social media. 
  3. Vice President of External Relations: Shawki Moore reported on the following:
    1. Will send the AB 1456 letter.  Thank you for the support.
    2. The Shared Governance Town Hall is this Thursday, September 30 at 4:00 p.m. in collaboration with the University Affairs Board/Your Voice Matters.
    3. The Rock the Vote (RTV) Leadership Team tabled for National Voter Registration Day last week.
  4. Vice President of Financial Affairs: Austin Barber reported on the following:
    1. The Financial Affairs Committee (FAC) is reviewing funding policies.
    2. Aztecs Rock Hunger (ARH) is less than a month away.
    3. Attended a Deferred Maintenance Advisory Committee meeting.
  5. Vice President of University Affairs: Jennifer Schenkenfelder reported on the following:
    1. This week is Your Voice Matters (YVM) push week and we have 30 walkarounds on the schedule.  An Instagram reel came out today.  
    2. The Shared Governance Town Hall is this Thursday at 4:00 p.m. in collaboration with the External Relations Board.   
  6. Executive Director:  Christina Brown reported on the following:
    1. Great job on the Board of Directors Student-at-Larges for being present at the board, committees, and commissions. 
    2. Working on the Graduate Student Insurance Town Hall with the GSA.
    3. Providing information on the Student Success Fees and history.
    4. Provided an update regarding ‘mega event’ guidelines at the Viejas Arena.
    5. The Aztec Recreation staff is working to get temporary occupancy this month at the new Aztec Recreation Center (ARC).

XI. REPORTS OF BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEMBERS:

  1. Simran Jain reported on the Climate Strike that occurred last week and provided an update on the demands.
  2. Margot Ermer reported that Homecoming applications are out, the College Panhellenic Association/A.S. collaboration for the Good Neighbor Program Clean Up is postponed and provided updates regarding the Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Task Force meetings.
  3. Alexia (Lex-O) Oduro reported that she is working on the logistics of the A.S. meeting accessibility form and would like to present to the BOD, met with Dr. Aniesha Mitchell, and working with Stefan Hyman and Shawki Moore.
  4. Beth Bridges reported that she is working with the College of Health & Human Services College Council (CHHSCC) and the College of Sciences Student Council in regards to their club fair and working with CHHSCC to bring in campus resource presenters. Working with the Student Support Commission to update the SDSU Resource Guide.
  5. Ari Weizman reported that he met with Karina Esteban regarding a one-page parliamentary procedure page.  

XII. ANNOUNCEMENTS: 

  1. Active Minds meets on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. in Calpulli.
  2. There is a Green Love Lunch Bag (GBLS) this Wednesday at 11 a.m.
