Appendix A: FAQ

How to Request Money from the Associated Students

Q. How do I start a club or organization?
A. Student Activities & Campus Life (SACL) has information available about starting a new club or organization. You can also check with your College Council advisor.

Q. How do College Council organizations receive funding?
A. The A.S. designates a pool of funds from the General Activities Fee that are reserved for College Councils and are designated for individual College Councils based on expenditures from the prior year and majors in each college. The College Councils, with approval of A.S. Finance Board, then determines which academically-related student organizations they wish to fund.

Q. Can I be reimbursed if I don't have the original receipt?
A. No. The Associated Students will only give reimbursements with original receipts. There are no reimbursements given without receipts.

Q. How do I find out my account number?
A. Your advisor should have this information. It is also listed on the budget printout for your organization.

Q. How do I receive funding from the Associated Students?
A. Academically-related organizations are funded through the College Councils. If your organization is not academically-related, it must:

  1. Have open student membership,
  2. Be recognized as having on-campus status,
  3. Have as its purpose the recruitment and/or retention of students who are underrepresented in the SDSU population because of educational and/or social disadvantages.

Q. When do I need to go to the Finance Board?
A. Any request over $200 and ALL travel requests must be approved by the Finance Board.

Q. How do I find out the balance of my account?
A. Fill out a Request for Accounting Information (PDF) form and submit in the A.S. Business Office, Lower Level Aztec Center. A printout of your account balances will be available the following day for pickup. You may also email your request to cheryle.conelly@sdsu.edu.

Q. Where do I get the proper forms?
A. Forms are located in Appendix C. The forms are also available in the A.S. Business Office, Lower Level Aztec Center.

Q. How can I schedule an A.S. Dollars presentation for my club or organization?
A. Call the A.S. Business Office at 594-6487.

Q. If I don't receive funding from the Associated Students, where else can I go?
A. There are many other on-campus entities who may be willing to contribute to your organization: SDSU Research Foundation- 594-1900 Aztec Shops, Ltd.- 594-7585 Alumni Association- 594-2586. Also, contact your academic department for assistance.

Q. Can the Associated students issue my organization a tax I.D. number?
A. No. Tax I.D. numbers are issued for business purposes. Although the Associated Students may contribute funds to your organization, your organization's "business" is separate from that of the Associated Students, therefore we cannot issue you a tax I.D. number. However, a student organization may apply for an Employer ID Number for their own use. This application can be picked up in the A.S. Business office or you can call 559-452-4010.
