Kids in Need Experience the Watersports Camp

Watersports Camp
Campers enjoying wakeboarding on the bay.
Basic Sailing
Basic Sailing is just one of the many watersports campers can experience.

One-hundred eight campers in need have been able to experience the fun and excitement of the Watersports Camp this summer, thanks to the support of many generous individuals and organizations who are committed to making sure that the benefits of camp are available to all kids. We greatly appreciate the support from the many camp families who have pitched in to send kids to camp and the grants provided by the San Diego Yacht Club Sailing Foundation, TK Foundation, Torrey Pines Kiwanis Foundation, and California Division of Boating and Waterways.

The campership program at The Watersports Camp seeks to ensure that the benefits of camp participation are accessible to all youth regardless of financial status. In 2015, more than $35,000 in camperships were awarded to more than 150 San Diego area at-risk or under-represented youth. The Major Andy Budenz Campership, in memorial of a past member of the MBAC team, provides a week of wakeboarding camp to a child of a US military member who has been deployed or has given their life in service to our country.

"All kids should be given a chance to experience a week of watersports camp regardless of their background or family's financial situation," shared Morgan McGee, the Watersports Camp Administrator. "I love being able to award kids the opportunity to try something that may turn into a lifelong passion."

You too can help send a kid to camp next summer by making a donation by visiting watersportscamp.com/donate. One-hundred percent of the funds will be used to help a deserving child create life-long friendships and memories at camp.

Student Lounge
Students can come into the air-conditioned lounge and chill.

Associated Students kicked off the fall semester by unveiling its new 1,600 square-foot student lounge in the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union. The lounge offers students a place to socialize with their peers or collaborate on school projects using one of the several hi-tech workspaces. The comfortable seating and five televisions also give students a chance to de-stress from their busy schedule. The lounge will be open daily, so stop by and relax!

This year's bowling league brought together bowlers from Student Life and Leadership, SDSU Children's Center, Student Affairs, Aztec Recreation, Center for Intercultural Relations, SDSU Catering and Associated Students. Eight teams loaded with 52 enthusiastic bowlers squared off and bowled for the championship and trophies. While the event was actually about having fun and spending time with co-workers, you couldn't deny the competitive nature of some of the teams.

In the end, Cap n' Kyle and the Pin Crushers finished in 1st place, with the Lucky Strikers finishing in 2nd place. The season high scratch game winners were Dave McGrew who bowled a 199 and Vicki Greene who bowled a 172. Congratulations to all who participated!
