$1 = Six Pounds of Food
Aztecs Rock Hunger
Help us reach our goal of 400,000 pounds of food for Jacobs and Cushman San Diego Food Bank.
Aztecs Rock Hunger continues through this Monday, November 7th. You can help the 370,000 San Diegans who face “food insecurity,” which means that little or no food is available at home and 138,000 of those San Diegans are children.
Every $1 donated = 6 lbs. of food for hungry San Diegans!
There are FOUR easy ways to donate:
- Make a monetary donation at sdsu.edu/aztecsrockhunger
- Make a financial contribution at any campus Market or Starbucks
- Donate to Aztec Proud
- Place non-perishable food in the red bins throughout campus
PLUS: 20% of cash donations will go to purchase meal cards for students with food insecurities right here on campus through the Economic Crisis and Response Team.
Thank you for making a difference in San Diegans’ lives!

15 Questions
Scott Grant, Youth Programs and Events Supervisor
1. What is your name and title?
Scott Grant, Youth Programs and Events Supervisor.
2. Which A.S. department do you work in?
Aztec Recreation, Mission Bay Aquatic Center, I plan and implement FUN! I supervise The Watersports Camp along with special events for anyone looking to have a great time on the water.
3. How long have you worked for A.S.?
I started at MBAC as a Wakeboarding Instructor in May 2009, so… 7 ½ years. I have been full time since 2013.
4. What was the last movie you saw? Thumbs up or thumbs down?
“Snowden” – In full disclosure I told my wife I didn’t want to see it because I thought it was gonna be a romantic comedy about a couple that was “Snowed In”… turns out I was wrong and I would give it a thumbs up.
5. What is your favorite dessert?
Ice cream, it’s a delicious family tradition. Every night at 8pm my grandfather has a scoop of ice cream for dessert and has done so as long as I can remember.
6. What city would you most like to visit or visit again?
Chiang Mai, Thailand. That city was incredible! So many awesome people and great food! My wife and I got to spend a day riding and hanging out with elephants in a sanctuary just outside of the city. I highly recommend it.
7. What is your favorite ride at an amusement park?
“Top Gun” at California’s Great America, because “I feel the need, the need for speed!”
8. Would you rather build a sandcastle or a snowman?
This is a tough one. Sandcastle, although I can’t stand the sand… it gets in everything and somehow weeks after being at the beach I find it in places I didn’t know I had. (Ironic, I know, because at MBAC sand is everywhere!!!) On the other hand, I would rather be at the beach than in the snow since that means I am probably out surfing.
9. What is your favorite book?
“The Gas We Pass” by Shinta Cho. Look it up, it is a very important and informative literary work.
10. What is your favorite sports team or who is your favorite individual athlete?
USA Triathlete, Tommy Zaferes. His twitter and Instagram are on point, plus he’s a long-time friend from Aptos where I grew up and was one of my inspirations to start participating in Triathlon.
11. What do you want to be when you grow up?
When I was in 5th grade I told my parents I wanted to run a wakeboard camp. Since I currently do that, the next big thing on my list is to be an awesome parent. NO RUSH though. I’m having fun being an uncle to 6 awesome kids!
12. What three things are always in your refrigerator?
Green grapes — I love when they are crunchy and a little sour.
String cheese — I usually have one or two a day.
Sour Patch Kids. (In the freezer) — Try it, it’s the best way to eat them.
13. “Most people don’t know that I like to…
“…Rap. There have been rumors and whispers amongst my staff that I sometimes freestyle rap on long summer days during camp. Those rumors are true.”
14. When you visit the Zoo, which animal do you make sure you see?
Hippos. Did you know that their name means “river horse”!? Hippos can run up to 23 km per hour, sleep underwater, they are one of the most aggressive and dangerous animals in Africa (killing over 300 people each year), and their skin produces its own sunscreen!
15. What do you like most about working for A.S.?
The people! I love being able to invest in our student staff, and work alongside an awesome team of career staff in Aztec Rec and at MBAC.

Native to North America, cranberries are grown in bogs and are primarily grown in New England. When the pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock, they found Native Americans harvesting them and eating them. Cranberries were also used as dyes for clothing and for medicinal purposes.
