Watch the Union Being Green
SUSTAINABILITY
We all know that the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union has been LEED Platinum Certified. But did you know you can monitor the Union’s energy production and consumption from your computer? It’s easy, just visit as.sdsu.edu/aztecunion and click on the “SUSTAINABILITY” link, under Check This Out. That will take you to a Building Dashboard, where you can get information about the Union’s energy consumption. You can easily see how much electricity is being used, as well as how much solar electricity is being produced. Also highlighted are all the green features in the Union; solar panels, radiant flooring, green roof, FSC wood and much more. For example, did you know that the Union has three 50,000-gallon rainwater collection tanks? A total of 150,000 gallons of rainwater can be collected and stored for irrigating the Union’s landscaping.

15 Questions
Laura Weinbrenner, A.S. Graphic Assistant
1. What is your name and title?
Laura Weinbrenner, A.S. Graphic Assistant
2. Which A.S. department do you work in?
Graphics - I’m the one of the people behind the mysterious locked graphics door that beautifully arranges shapes and colors.
3. How long have you worked for A.S.?
Almost 1.5 years, and I’m holding on as long as I can.
4. What was the last movie you saw? Thumbs up or thumbs down?
“Deadpool,” definitely thumbs up. It had me laughing the entire time.
5. If you won $5 million what would you do with it?
I would probably hold off until finishing these questions, and then immediately buy a one-way ticket to a foreign destination so I can travel the world. That’s my plan already, but the $5 million would definitely help.
6. What is your favorite dessert?
My broad answer is anything that contains chocolate, but I can probably narrow it down to a perfectly under-cooked Pizookie. It’s a giant cookie in the shape of a pizza and then you get to add ice cream on top. What’s not to love?
7. What city would you most like to visit or visit again?
I think I would go back to Edinburgh, Scotland. I spent a semester studying abroad in Scotland, and the experience and country had a profound impact on me. I would go back to the castles, kilts, and pubs in a heartbeat.
8. What is your favorite book? And why?
I love the entire Harry Potter series. I grew up reading the books, going to the movie premiers, and I even have a photo of me racing a trolley through the wall of Platform 9 ¾ in London.
9. What do you want to be when you grow up?
Traveling graphic designer. Is that even a thing? Maybe I’ll have to create that job. Design and travel are my two biggest passions. I want to be able to say I’ve both seen and made a lot of things.
10. Do you like to cook and what is your specialty?
I like to cook, but I’m much better at baking. More specifically, I’m good at baking desserts that are sure to cause a food coma and some weight gain. I’ve made that dessert where it’s a layer of brownie on top of a layer of Oreos on top of a layer of cookie dough. It was the best “worst thing” I have ever made and I couldn’t move for hours after eating some.
11. “Most people don’t know that I like to…”
Surf. I’m not very good at it, and I’m often terrified that there are sharks underneath me, but not much is better than being in the water with your friends on a nice sunny day.
12. When you visit the Zoo, which animal do you make sure you see?
The Red Pandas. They’re just sleepy and adorable. I also try to avoid the monkeys at all costs. Why does the zoo have so many monkey exhibits? They are stashed everywhere, in every section.
13. What was or is your favorite subject in school?
Within the Art Department, I took a Figure Drawing course, which involved sketching visiting nude models. It was 6 hours a week of listening to music and drawing. I’ve enjoyed all my art courses, but this one was so relaxing and so quintessentially “art school”.
14. If you could have a superhero power what would it be?
Teleportation, without a doubt. I’m so sick of long car rides and it means I could just pop in and out of some amazing places around the world.
15. If you could be any color in a box of Crayola Crayons, what color would you be?
Blue. It’s very versatile.

National Bike to Work Day

National Bike to Work Day was established to encourage people to bicycle to work and forsake their motor vehicles for just one day.
The League of American Bicyclists was founded as the League of American Wheelmen in 1880. Bicyclists, known then as "wheelmen," were challenged by rutted roads of gravel and dirt and faced antagonism from horsemen, wagon drivers and pedestrians.
