$25,000 Donation to MBAC
Mission Bay Aquatic Center
San Diego Magazine and Torrey Pines Kiwanis will host a fundraiser to support athletic programs for persons with disabilities at the iconic Bird’s Surf Shed on May 28, 2015. The event will feature entertainment, food, a hosted bar, and will be highlighted by a check presentation from the Torrey Pines Kiwanis for $25,000 to support accessible watersports programs at the Mission Bay Aquatic Center. The kick-off party celebrates the launch of the 29th annual La Jolla Festival of the Arts™ to be held at UCSD in June.
The surf themed event will be held at the iconic Bird’s Surf Shed, an unassuming Quonset hut tucked away in a raw industrial locale where the arched ceilings are covered by an expansive collection of over 800 awe-inspiring vintage surfboards. Bird’s has been a part of the local surf scene for decades and San Diego surf history can be seen everywhere you look. Guests will have the opportunity to rub elbows where surf films premiere, superstar shapers hold hands-on clinics, and board riders of all ages just come to hang.
A live auction to benefit San Diegans with disabilities will feature items from Honorary Ambassadors, Aaron Chang Photography and Tim Bessell Surfboards, a swag bag from San Diego Magazine, and more.
Guests can expect fine cuisine from MIHO Gastrotruck, along with beer and wine, and live entertainment from DJ Daniel Peterson. 100% of the proceeds from the Kick-off Party will benefit sports and recreation programs for San Diegans with disabilities. Help Shape the Future of Parking on Campus
Green Love is assisting SDSU Parking Services with a survey of parking and transportation alternatives at SDSU.
Green Love is assisting SDSU Parking Services with an assessment of its parking operation and your feedback is important to creating a parking experience that is customer-focused, safe and that contributes positively to the overall quality of life on campus.
You are invited to participate in a brief online survey about your experiencing accessing the San Diego State University campus using your preferred method of transportation: car, bicycle, bus, trolley and/or as a pedestrian. The purpose of this survey is to provide the SDSU campus community with an opportunity to share experiences, perceptions, ideas and concerns related to accessing campus. The survey will take less than 10 minutes to complete and is open to all campus audiences: students, faculty and staff.
15 Questions
Angela Mariscal, A.S. Suite Front Desk Assistant
What is your name and title?
Angela Mariscal, A.S. Suite Front Desk Assistant
Which A.S. department do you work in? Describe your job in 25 words or less.
Government Affairs/ Business Office. I represent the office suite answering a lot of questions about student org banking, payroll and government affairs. I also handle administrative work and event coordination for the student government.
How many years have you worked for A.S.?
FOUR!
If you won $5 million what would you do with it?
I’d go on a massive travel spree around the world and hike as many mountains that I could. Then I’d come back and start a business building gardens and offering nutrition education to communities in need.
What is your favorite dessert?
Brownies: it’s the easiest medium between a cookie and a cake. You get the best of both worlds.
What country would you most like to visit or visit again?
Morocco, because of the food. It’s one of the most heavily influenced countries in the world with culinary and nutrition practices from Europe, India, Asia and Africa. Plus the culture is so lavish.
Who is your favorite singer / musician / musical group?
This is a hard one, but it’d have to be Led Zeppelin. I grew up with my parents and brothers listening to them, so it just kind of stuck with me. They were so innovative with their music and techniques.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
I’m not quite sure yet, but I do know that I want to educate others about nutrition and sustainability.
Do you like to cook and what is your specialty?
I LOVE to cook — anything, really. I make a mean eggplant parmesan.
What three things are always in your refrigerator?
Kale, bananas, and avocados—I probably eat too much kale to begin with, but you can do so much with each. Plus they’re packed with nutrients, and if you blend them together, you get a smoothie!
If you could go back or forward in time, where would you go?
I’d jump forward one month to graduation! And then my trip to Barcelona one week after that, I’ll be traveling through Europe for about a month and a half as a graduation gift to myself, and I couldn’t be more excited.
When you visit the Zoo, which animal do you make sure you see?
Gorillas, because they scare me, but they’re so cool.
What was or is your favorite subject in school?
Physiology — my college professor, Dr. Buono, was absolutely incredible. From the way he taught his class, to his passion for the subject; the class was so engaging and made you want to learn. I’m a Foods and Nutrition major, so knowing how the body works and the science of everything is absolutely fascinating. I could go on talking about it for hours.
If you could be any color in a box of Crayola Crayons, what color would you be?
Green, because it represents all the best things in life: plants, nature, sustainability.
What is your favorite candy?
Reese’s. The peanut butter/chocolate pairing is out of this world.
