SDSU Children’s Center Earns National Accreditation
National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)
After 3 years of comprehensive and internal self-study, the SDSU Children’s Center, a program of the Associated Students, earned national accreditation through the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). For more than 25 years, NAEYC accreditation has been the benchmark for high quality early childhood programs. Less than 300 of the more than 11,000 California Child Development programs achieve accredited through NAEYC.
All aspects of the program were critiqued, with special attention focused on the following standards:
- Relationships - positive relationships between adults and children encourage a child’s sense of individual worth and belonging as part of a community. Young children who have the benefit of strong relationships are most able to contribute responsibly as adults.
- Teaching - developmentally, culturally, and linguistically appropriate curriculum is the hallmark of a quality early years program. Effective teaching enhances children’s learning and development, as well as challenging them to think critically. Our curriculum emerges from detailed observation of children and collaboration with teachers to support how children learn best.
- Assessments - an ongoing, systematic approach, using both formal and informal assessment tools, provides a snapshot of each child’s learning. Open communication between teachers and families benefit children in all aspects of learning and development. The Center uses the California Department of Education’s Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP) assessment tool, based on naturally occurring observations. At least every 6 months, families are invited to confer about their child’s progress and to provide input into future curriculum planning.
- Teachers - All Master Teachers at the Children’s Center have at least a BS in Child and Family Development, as well as California teaching credentials. Our staff is educated, qualified, and knowledgeable in all areas of early year’s education. The SDSU Children’s Center experiences very little full time staff turnover.
- Families - A strong reciprocal relationship between families and a child development program is one of the best indicators of quality. Within the context of Continuity of Care, most children have the same Master Teacher for the entire time they are enrolled at the Center. Our commitment is to provide a solid foundation that meets the needs of children and their families.
- Community Relationships - the SDSU Children’s Center reaches out into the community to establish and maintain a network of support with other agencies. This allows us to stay viable in all areas of early care and education, including curriculum, health, inclusion and diversity.
- Leadership and Management - strong and effective personnel, fiscal and program management policies ensure all children, families and staff have a high quality experience.
The staff at the SDSU Children’s Center is thrilled to be recognized for their commitment to providing an outstanding experience for all children and families. For more information about the National Association for the Education of Young Children, visit families.naeyc.org

I’ve always really wanted to visit Tokyo someday. I really admire Japanese culture and that’s something I want to experience eventually.

A few of my favorites are Frank Ocean, Kendrick Lamar, and Soulection. To me it’s important to sound different and not repeat what’s been done a hundred times before, and I feel each of them strive to push boundaries with their music and create something original while still paying homage to the greats.
What is your favorite book?
“Catcher in the Rye’” because when I was younger I sort of related to Holden, but now when I read it I find his attitude funny. Another notable mention: “Fresh Off The Boat.”

If you could be any color in a box of Crayola Crayons, what color would you be?
The red, because the red tastes the best.
What is your favorite part of working for A.S.?
The team I work with. Nothing is better than coming to a place surrounded by people you enjoy being around. I’ve grown a lot as a designer because of them.
