Website Accessibility
Website Accessibility
As a part of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), A.S. websites are constructed so that all visitors can easily obtain information about Associated Students and it’s programs. Accessibility allows everyone, such as people who use a screen reader to read web pages out loud, people who cannot see the full color range, people with limited mobility and people who use text-only browsers, to quickly and easily navigate our websites.
Associated Students is dedicated to provide accessible content on all our sites. Each year all our websites are tested for accessibility, with the test results then submitted to the CSU Chancellor’s Office.
The results of the July 3rd test are in and all A.S. websites passed at 100% accessible.
Here are a few of the more basic ways we make A.S. websites more accessible:
Multimedia Equivalents
All images (photos, logos, videos) have “alt” tags to explain content to users who do not see the images and use a screen reader. Additionally, all information provided in a non-text format will have a text summary. For example, videos on any A.S. website will have an accompanying transcript.
Decorative Color Only
No color will be used to convey important information. For example, pages will not contain information such as “names that appear in red are members on both committees.” The color schemes used on our sites are tested to ensure easy viewing by people who are color blind.
No Flicker
Our sites do not use animated gifs or images that flicker. Flickering images can be hard for some users to see and can trigger epileptic seizures.
Skip Links
Skip links are available on every page for screen reader users to jump to the content of the page instead of cycling through repetitive links on each page.
No Timed Responses
There are no forms or pages that require a timed response. Users can take as much time as needed to access all information.
Sound confusing? It is. But, fortunately for A.S. we have Lyubov Horne, our A.S. Web Design Specialist, who — with a little help from the Graphics team and the IT Department — makes certain that the coding for all A.S. sites pass the test. It is a huge and very complex task! Thank you Lyubov, for all your hard work.
25 Questions
A.S. Executive Officers
What is your name and title?
Blaire Ann Christina Kindsey Hosfeldt-Ward, CEO/President of Associated Students.
“Most people don’t know that I…”
…am an introvert! At least according to all personality tests. Although I come off very outgoing, I enjoy being alone. I would choose to relax and read a book, over going out any day! Don't get me wrong, when the time is right, I still know how to have fun!
If you won $5 million what would you do with it?
I would give all of it to a wealth manager, let it compound 15% per year and then in a few years give 10% to SDSU, 5% to my sponsor children in Guatemala and Thailand, 5% to Rotary international and save the rest... and maybe I would buy a new car.
If you could have a superhero power, what would it be?
To read people's minds.
When you order a drink at Starbucks, how many words are in the description of your drink and what are they?
4 words - coconut milk latte HOT, or 4 words - iced unsweetened green tea
What is your name and title?
Leo Carrillo, A.S. Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.
“Most people don’t know that I like to…”
…be adventurous. I enjoy going out of my comfort zone, from going on a spontaneous hike somewhere to doing something I wouldn’t normally do. I believe stepping out of one’s comfort zone and being adventurous is truly when you make the most out of this wonderful life.
If you won $5 million what would you do with it?
Last year I had the opportunity to participate in the 12 most rewarding hours standing and dancing with over 400 students at Aztec Dance Marathon, helping raise over $40,000 for Rady Children’s Hospital. The mission, “Dance for those who can’t”. Thus, I would donate all the money to ADM and all of their efforts, because I know that this money will go a long way in paying for sick & injured little ones in San Diego to receive care and making sure that the parents of these children can continue to love and cherish their little ones, ensuring they have the brightest futures they possibly can.
If you could have a superhero power, what would it be?
Having the ability to heal anyone and anything. Being able to get rid of minor injuries like cuts and bruises would be great, but also help ease the pain of people suffering from serious illness. Cancer, Alzheimer’s and AIDS would all be history.
When you order a drink at Starbucks, how many words are in the description of your drink and what are they?
Tall Dark Coffee sweetened and with room for Milk. So nine words, never thought of this haha.
What is your name and title?
My name is Tyler Aguilar and I am the Vice President of External Relations and Chief Communications Officer of Associated Students.
“Most people don’t know that I like to…”
…look at art. I'm not the most gifted in fine arts, but I really appreciate a good oil pastel painting.
If you won $5 million what would you do with it?
First I would by my mom a house, and give her money so she doesn't have to work another day in her life. Then I would by a lifetime American Airlines pass (yes they have them). Finally, I would then move to the most remote location in the Swiss alps and snowboard for the rest of my life.
If you could have a superhero power, what would it be?
Flight! So when American Airlines keeps delaying/canceling my flights I will just take off on my own.
When you order a drink at Starbucks, how many words are in the description of your drink and what are they?
This question is hilarious. I usually just get iced coffee! 2 words. But if I'm feeling super fancy I'll get a non-fat, upside down, iced grande caramel macchiato, 8 words.
What is your name and title?
Dominic Bilotti, Vice President of Financial Affairs
“Most people don’t know that I like to…”
…play baseball every Sunday
If you won $5 million what would you do with it?
Buy my mom a new house, pay for college for myself and my brother.
If you could have a superhero power, what would it be?
To fly, so I would not have to buy any more plane tickets.
When you order a drink at Starbucks, how many words are in the description of your drink and what are they?
4 words - Iced Venti Caramel Macchiato or 2 words - black coffee
What is your name and title?
Andrea Byrd, Vice President of University Affairs
“Most people don’t know that I like to…”
…act and sing. I’m not very good at singing, but if I could take my bathtub and shower with me everywhere I go, I know I’d have a hit record by now. I’m sure of it! I really enjoy acting however, and I’m actually pretty good at it. Who knows, maybe one day you’ll all see me on the big screen.
If you won $5 million what would you do with it?
I imagine I would give $2 million to support my family, $2 million to start/support a non-profit organization, half a million to save, and the other half a million to travel the world.
If you could have a superhero power, what would it be?
If I could have any superhero power I would like to morph into any person, animal, or inanimate object! It would be a mix between Mystique from X-Men and the Green Lantern–except only cooler because I wouldn’t be blue (I’ve always been more of an earth-tone girl anyway lol) and I wouldn’t need the Green Lantern ring. Boom Bop Bam!
When you order a drink at Starbucks, how many words are in the description of your drink and what are they?
8 words - Grande water chilled with six cubes of ice, or 2 words - just “ice water” for short.

National Ice Cream Sandwich Day, Ice cream sandwiches have been around since the early 1900s. Vanilla, chocolate and a combination of the two, are the most popular. You can make homemade sandwiches. Just put some ice cream between a couple wafers, and...Voila! Don't have wafers? That’s okay. Put some ice cream between two of your favorite cookies.
