Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get an AS Elections packet?  Can I fill one out online?

You can get a packet from the AS Government Affairs Office in the lower Aztec Center, starting on Monday, January 28, at 8:00 AM.  Because there are many important components to the informative packet, the packet is not available online - only at the AS Government Affairs Office.

You can only pick up a packet for yourself AND you must present your RED ID in order to get an application packet – no exceptions.

When are the application materials due?

Friday, February 15, 4pm (for NON write-in candidate packets).  We will only accept complete application materials, which consist of the following items:

  • Signed Candidate Application
  • Candidate Statement (optional) – hard copy AND electronic copy saved on a cd/disk
  • $100 Deposit Check written out to Associated Students
  • Candidate Deposit Information Sheet

Why do I have to put a deposit of $100?

In the event of a violation of Section 4.06(o.) in the Elections Code, the $100.00 deposit will be cashed by the AS Elections Committee.

For more details, read the Elections Code (pdf).

If no violations occur, checks may be picked up at the AS Government Affairs Office one week after the AS Council has approved the elections results.  Any checks not picked up by Friday, April 20, will be destroyed by the AS Government Affairs Office staff.

I’m currently majoring in Journalism, but I’m thinking about changing it to Marketing soon.  Can I run for the College of Business seat?

To run for a College seat, you must have declared a major in that particular college.  If records show that you are still majoring in Journalism, you cannot run for the College of Business seat and must instead run for the College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts seat.

For Dates and Time, access the Elections Schedule.
