Award DescriptionsDaniel B. Nowak Outstanding Student Service AwardShall be awarded each year to no more than one (1) student who has contributed outstanding effort, time and achievement toward furthering the interest of the student body and San Diego State over at least a one year period. Outstanding Graduating Senior Scholarship AwardShall be awarded to the graduating senior with the highest grade point average. If there is more than one graduating senior with the highest grade point average, multiple awards shall be given. Daniel P. Goodrich AwardShall be awarded to a graduating senior who has served San Diego State and the student body in a varied manner (i.e., student government, clubs, community service, etc.) throughout his/her San Diego State career. Outstanding Graduate Student Service AwardShall be awarded to a graduate student who has contributed outstanding effort, time and achievement toward furthering the interest of the student body and San Diego State University beyond the scope of his/her graduate program. Shuford C. Swift AwardShall be awarded to no more than two (2) students-at-large, one must be a graduating senior, who have distinguished themselves over a period of at least two (2) years for service, achievement, effort, and involvement in varied aspects of student government to include: serving on Boards, Committees, and other aspects which might include Faculty Senate or its committees, campus policy committees, student orientation, etc. Most Outstanding Freshman AwardShall be awarded to a first-year freshman who has made significant contributions to the University and demonstrated a commitment to carrying out the mission, goals and values of Associated Students. Dean Herbert Peiffer AwardShall be made to the male student who has completed ninety (90) or more units and has exhibited outstanding leadership and motivation at San Diego State, particularly in the last year, and is most likely to bring outstanding honor to San Diego State University. Dean Margery Warmer AwardShall be made to the female student who has completed ninety (90) or more units and has exhibited outstanding leadership and motivation at San Diego State, particularly in the last year, and is most likely to bring outstanding honor to San Diego State University. Executive AwardsShall be awarded to the A.S. Executive Officers that will serve during the upcoming year and shall consist of a mounted gravel with appropriate inscription for the A.S. President, the A.S. Executive Vice President, Vice President of External Affairs, A.S. Vice President of Finance and A.S. Vice President for University Affairs. Life PassesA Life Pass to all home activities sponsored by the Association shall be granted to each retiring A.S. President, A.S. Executive Vice President, A.S. Vice President of External Affairs, A.S. Vice President of Finance and A.S. Vice President for University Affairs upon his/her graduation from San Diego State and may also be granted by the Awards Committee to any person found qualified with regard to services, cooperation and effort toward furthering the interest of San Diego State University. No more than seven (7) passes, including A.S. President's, A.S. Executive Vice President's, A.S. Vice President's of External Affairs, A.S. Vice President's of Finance and A.S. Vice President's for University Affairs pass, shall be awarded during any one year. Harvey Goodfriend AwardShall be awarded to an outstanding University or Auxiliary staff member who has made outstanding contributions to the betterment and welfare of the Associated Students, Inc. The person must have been employed by the Associated Students or the University for a period of not less than two (2) years and has not received a life pass. The award shall consist of a life pass to all home activities sponsored by the Association. Malcolm A. Love AwardShall be awarded to a member of the SDSU faculty who has made outstanding contributions to the Associated Students over a two-year period. Outstanding Alumni AwardShall be awarded to an Alumnus who has made outstanding contributions to the University by virtue of his/her involvement in society. Outstanding Faculty AwardsShall be awarded to one faculty member, nominated by one of the seven (7) College Councils or a recognized student organization. This award is to recognize the outstanding contribution faculty make(s) to the quality of education. Board and College Council AwardsOutstanding Board and College Council AwardShall be awarded to the Board and College Council whose members have not only exhibited outstanding achievements within their area but also possess leadership qualities that other boards and councils could follow. Most Improved Board and College Council AwardShall be awarded to the Board and College Council and its Chair who have each made significant improvements within the last year in various areas that relate directly to that Board or College Council. This may include programming, membership, promotions, student leadership training, campus and /or community service. Board/Committee Member of the Year AwardShall be awarded to one Board member nominated by the board, which the nominee serves. The nominee must be a student and may not be the Chair of the board or an "A.S. Council representative" seat on the board. Board and committee chairs are not eligible. Outstanding Student OrganizationShall be awarded to the student organization, which has demonstrated excellence in programming, community service, service to SDSU, student leadership training, field or interest, or has been recognized nationally/regionally by parent organization, if applicable. Outstanding Advisor AwardShall be awarded to one (1) student organization advisor who has
contributed outstanding time, effort and guidance to help further
the interests and goals of his/her respective Board, Committee,
club/organization or College Council. Lamp of Leadership AwardShall be awarded to all current A.S. Council members and all former A.S. Executive Officers graduating from San Diego State University and shall consist of an appropriately inscribed medal to be worn during commencement ceremonies. Best Retention Practices AwardShall be awarded to one (1) faculty or staff member who has been identified as showing specific practices that lead to student continuation, i.e., what the nominees did to demonstrate their dedication to effective teaching, student learning, student development, or service to students. Dean Carole Robasciotti Outstanding Faculty Community Service-Learning AwardShall be awarded to a faculty or staff member, student, community member or community organization who enhances student learning and civic responsibility through active scholarly and practical involvement in service learning for a minimum of at least one (1) year. |
