COVID-19 Vaccine

Eligibility and Appointments Expanded

Everyone age 16 and older is eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Watch this video from our Associated Students student leaders sharing why it’s important to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

All county-operated COVID-19 vaccine sites, including Viejas Arena, are offering no-appointment needed, walk-up vaccinations. The Viejas Arena vaccination site is open 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. You can also contact your primary care physician or other health care provider to inquire about appointment; sign up for an appointment at any of the clinics, pharmacies and other stores offering vaccines; or use VaccineFinder to locate a COVID-19 vaccine near you.

Vaccinations are free. SDSU students can upload a copy of their completed COVID-19 vaccination card to HealtheConnect for a chance to win a $50 Starbucks gift card.

After receiving a vaccine dose, there may be some side effects. These side effects, such as fatigue, chills, muscle aches, and headaches are a sign that your body is building immunity against the virus. They are a common immune system response and should go away within a few days.

Until we know more about how vaccines will affect the spread of COVID-19, people who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 should continue taking precautions in public places by wearing a mask, staying six feet apart from others, avoiding crowds and poorly ventilated spaces, and washing their hands often.

Doing our part and scheduling a vaccine appointment means we are one step closer to a safer – and more normal – SDSU experience. For further information, go to sdsu.edu/covid19vaccine.

Supporting Local Eateries and Shops

During the pandemic, many restaurants have closed, reopened with limitations and closed once again. Now many are finally reopening slowly, while others have struggled or closed permanently. The best way to support these “mom and pop'' type businesses and help keep their doors open is to give them your business. Many businesses are ready and excited to safely welcome you back. Next time you are thinking of where to go out and eat, take a moment to find a local, small business. I am sure there are many places we could list but here are a few local and not so local eateries and shops that come highly recommended from some of your fellow A.S. colleagues.

A.S. Book Club

May Book Selection

The May Book Club selection is: Catch-22, by Joseph Heller, which was submitted by Quincy Belcher II, HR Coordinator.

Fifty years after its original publication, Catch-22 remains a cornerstone of American literature and one of the funniest — and most celebrated — books of all time. In recent years it has been named to “best novels” lists by Time, Newsweek, The Modern Library, and The London Observer

Book cover - Catch-22

Set in Italy during World War II, this is the story of the incomparable, malingering bombardier, Yossarian, a hero who is furious because thousands of people he has never met are trying to kill him. But his real problem is not the enemy — it is his own army, which keeps increasing the number of missions the men must fly to complete their service. Yet if Yossarian makes any attempt to excuse himself from the perilous missions he’s assigned, he’ll be in violation of Catch-22, a hilariously sinister bureaucratic rule: a man is considered insane if he willingly continues to fly dangerous combat missions, but if he makes a formal request to be removed from duty, he is proven sane and therefore ineligible to be relieved.

If you have any suggestions or care to share your favorite book to read, submit it via the A.S. Book Club Suggestion Box.

  8. I really enjoy getting to know and help professionally develop the students I work with. I feel like I learn so much from them. I love to hear and watch how they grow during their time at SDSU. 10. I love creme brulee and Extraordinary Desserts. I love walking in and seeing the case full of all those wonderful desserts. YUM! As long as it's not chocolate, I’ll eat it.

  11. What city would you most like to visit or visit again?
  12. That’s easy: Barcelona! The city and people were so beautiful and I feel like I only saw the very tip of it. Gaudi’s amazing architecture, the nightlife with incredible music, Flamenco dancers, and the delicious tapas and Cava! I would like to explore more parts of Spain in general.

  13. If you had one free hour each day, how would you use it?
  14. I think I would volunteer to teach an Adult ESL class. I find it really amazing that people will move to a country where they don’t know the language. I don’t know if I could be that brave, so I think it would be cool to help them assimilate and learn a new language.

  15. Do you prefer pens or pencils?
  16. I prefer pens because they come in a variety of colors which makes note taking more interesting. I like the Poppin collection from Staples.

  17. What is your favorite book?

  27. What’s the best concert you’ve been to and why was it so good?
  28. The best concert I went to was Coldplay at the Hollywood Bowl. First of all, that venue is amazingly beautiful surrounded by the hills and you can see the Hollywood sign, can’t get much more Hollywood than that. Coldplay sounded great and their use of media throughout their performance just made the music so much more engaging.

  29. What is your favorite new stay-at-home activity?
  30. Trying out something new to make with my Kitchen - Aide stand mixer once a week. I made conchas, which are Mexican sweet bread. It was a long process and they didn’t come out as great as the panaderia, but I’ll keep trying!
