Accounting Manager

Full-Time, Salaried, Exempt

The Accounting Manager manages the day-to-day activities of the accounting department. Supervises the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, maintains corporate financial operations and records, prepares financial reports and performs other work as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department
  • Coordinates the annual independent audit including preparing financial statements which are audited
  • Coordinates the filing of annual tax statements at the federal (forms 990 & 990T) and state level (forms 199 & 109)
  • Coordinates the annual independent Children’s Center compliance audit
  • Audits departmental accounting data, identifies and corrects errors, identifies and computes accruals, applies accounting principles to transactions and recommends revisions in departmental accounting procedures to ensure conformance with applicable statues, laws, A.S. polices and General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Designs and implements internal control systems for all departments to ensure the safeguarding of A.S. assets and ensures all transactions are conducted in accordance to these procedures
  • Ensures distribution of accounting documents and monthly financial reports in an accurate and timely manner
  • Ensures functions of accounts receivable and deposits are performed in a timely and accurate manner. Ensures past due accounts are collected in a reasonable and timely fashion
  • Ensures the functions of accounts payable, purchasing, and oversight of the student organizations are performed in a timely and accurate manner
  • Reviews payment requests to ensure they meet established documentation standards
  • Ensures fixed asset records are current and reconcile to accounting records. Ensures fixed asset records are audited at least annually
  • Ensures subsidiary journals reconcile to general ledger
  • Ensures all necessary entries are made to the accounting records including monthly bank entries, reserve transactions entries and any correcting entries. Ensures that all month end tasks are completed
  • Additional responsibilities include administration, customer service & collaboration, safety and staff management.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & CERTIFICATION

  • A Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business or related field from an accredited college or university required. Master’s degree preferred
  • CPA preferred
  • Six years of experience in keeping and reviewing general ledgers
  • Four years of experience supervising employees required
  • Experience with computerized accounting systems preferred
  • Experience with Sage Accounting software is a plus

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Starting Range: $85,000 – $95,000 per year, Exempt

SCHEDULE & WORKING CONDITIONS

This is a regular, full-time position with expected hours of Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

General office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require standing and walking around campus. The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available.

This position requires the individual to spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers. This person will also spend time filing and have to do some lifting of supplies and materials from time to time, including banker boxes and files.
