I. CALL TO ORDER

Brenna Culliton called the meeting to order at 7:33 AM in Council Chambers at the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union.

II. ROLL CALL

  1. Voting Members Present: Brenna Culliton, CJ O’Brien, Chloe Sension, Jordan Maharaj, Abel Mercado, David Ellman, Mustafa Alemi (late).
  2. Voting Members Absent: None.
  3. Non-Voting Members Present: Jennifer Esquivel-Parker.
  4. Non-Voting Members Absent: Lee Mintz.
  5. Visitors Present: None.

III. MODIFICATION OF AGENDA:

It was moved and seconded to approve the agenda. MAHARAJ/ELLMAN CARRIED, (5-0-0)

IV. APPROVAL OF PREVIOUS MINUTES:

It was moved and seconded to approve the previous minutes. SENSION/MAHARAJ CARRIED, (5-0-0)

V. PUBLIC COMMENT:

None.

VI. CHAIR’S REPORT:

1. Brenna discussed the idea of a bylaw amendment passing eligibility minimum GPA to 2.5.

VII. INFORMATION:

  1. Attendance Report: The attendance report, as attached, was reviewed.
  2. #BA 15-01 Elections Code (2nd reading): The proposed changes to the elections code were discussed. Jordan will follow-up with members.
  3. JAC Vision 2015:
    1. How to market to people interested in JAC.
    2. Go to pre-law meetings and political science classes in spring.
    3. Reach out to those not usually involved
    4. Presentation to take with us. Host an A.S panel once a semester.
    5. Come meet A.S leaders, reach out to cultural student organizations.

VIII. ACTION:

  1. Appointments and Resignations: It was moved and seconded to approve the appointment and resignation memo, as attached. MAHARAJ/ALEMI CARRIED, (6-0-0)
  2. Requests for Excused Absences: It was moved and seconded to approve the request for an excused absence from Marisa Cubing for missing the University Council meeting in the future on 10/21/15, as attached. SENSION/ELLMAN CARRIED, (6-0-0)
    It was moved and seconded to approve the request for an excused absence from Shawn Tenny for coming in late to the University Council meeting on 9/23/15. SENSION/ELLMAN FAILED, (0-6-0)
    It was moved and seconded to approve the request for an excused absence from David Ellman for missing the Judicial Affairs Council meeting on 10/5/15. MAHARAJ/ALEMI CARRIED, (6-0-0)
    It was moved and seconded to approve the request for an excused absence from Clayton Bishop for missing the Campus Life Council meeting on 9/16/15. ALEMI/ELLMAN FAILED, (0-5-1)
    It was moved and seconded to approve the request for an excused absence from Mustafa Alemi for missing the Judicial Affairs Council meeting on 10/12/15. ELLMAN/MERCADO CARRIED, (5-0-1)
  3. Tabling Requirements: It was moved and seconded to approve the tabling duties, as attached. ALEMI/ELLMAN CARRIED, (5-0-0)

IX. ANNOUNCEMENTS:

1. The presidential debates will be shown in the theater.

2. California Speaker of the Assembly, Toni Atkins will be speaking at University Council meeting this week.

3. RSVP for University House.
