JUDICIAL AFFAIRS COUNCIL MINUTES

Wednesday, February 12, 2014 – 9:00 am

Council Chambers • Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union

I. CALL TO ORDER

A.S. Chief Justice Sean Guardian called the meeting to order at 9:04 am in the Council Chambers at the Aztec Student Union.

II. ROLL CALL

A. Voting Members Present: Sean Guardian, Kiana Caton, Alex Johnstone, Abby Kim, Maneet Deol, Dillon McLean.

B. Voting Members Absent: None.

C. Non-Voting Members Present: Lee Mintz and Jennifer Esquivel-Parker.

D. Non-Voting Members Absent: None.

E. Visitors Present: None.

III. APPROVAL OF AGENDA

It was moved and seconded to approve the agenda for today’s meeting.

IV. APPROVAL OF PREVIOUS MINUTES

It was moved and seconded to approve the minutes from the 2/5/14 meeting, as attached.

V. CHAIR’S REPORT:

None.

VI. INFORMATION:

A. The JAC reviewed the following:

1. Board and Committee seats- asking Janice to make updates to the webpage so students know they can apply to more than one board.

2. Elections: we now have a vacancy on elections. Sean will serve in the interim.

3. Bylaw amendments- Alex will work on a bylaw amendment regarding tabling requirements and Abby will work on establishing a last chance proposal deadline.

4. Government Affairs Secretary- work directly with Becca to ensure members are attending their board and committee meetings and work with Morgan to confirm their attendance at their college council meetings.

VII. ACTION

A. Appointments and Resignations: It was moved and seconded to approve the appointments and resignations memo, as attached.

Sean Guardian was added as the interim JAC designee on Elections Committee.

The memo was approved as amended. CARRIED, (5-0-0)

B. Requests for Excused Absences:

1. It was moved and seconded to approve the request for an excused absence from Morgan Chan for missing the ASBOD meeting on 2/10/2014, copy attached.

2. It was moved and seconded to approve the request for an excused absence from Chad Karczewski for missing the AS retreat on 2/1/14, copy attached.

B. Requests for Last Chance Alternative:

1. It was moved and seconded to approve Michelle Mitchell’s last chance alternative proposal, with the conditions set by the college council president, copy attached.

2. It was moved and seconded to approve Washington Navarrete’s last chance alternative proposal, copy attached.

D. Elections Committee Minutes, 2/7/14:

It was moved and seconded to approve the Elections Committee minutes, 2/7/14 as attached.
