JUDICIAL AFFAIRS COUNCIL MINUTES

Wednesday, February 5, 2014 – 9:00 am

Council Chambers • Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union

I. CALL TO ORDER

A.S. Chief Justice Sean Guardian called the meeting to order at 9:03 am in the Council Chambers at the Aztec Student Union.

II. ROLL CALL

A. Voting Members Present: Sean Guardian, Kiana Caton, Alex Johnstone, Abby Kim, Dillon McLean.

B. Voting Members Absent: Maneet Deol

C. Non-Voting Members Present: Lee Mintz and Jennifer Esquivel-Parker.

D. Non-Voting Members Absent: None.

E. Visitors Present: None.

III. APPROVAL OF AGENDA

It was moved and seconded to approve the agenda for today’s meeting.

IV. APPROVAL OF PREVIOUS MINUTES

It was moved and seconded to approve the minutes from the 1/29/14 meeting, as attached.

V. CHAIR’S REPORT:

None.

VI. INFORMATION:

A. JAC reviewed Washington’s appeal and Alex is going to follow-up with him asking him to submit an official Last Chance Alternative Request

B. The Justices signed up for visits to the BOD, ASUC and ASCLC meetings.

VII. ACTION

A. Appointments and Resignations: It was moved and seconded to approve the appointments and resignations memo, as attached.

JOHNSTONE/KIM

A friendly amendment was made to add Jake Garelick, College of Undeclared Rep. to the resignations list.

The memo was approved as amended.

B. Requests for Excused Absences:

1. It was moved and seconded to approve the request for an excused absence from Joshua Beverly for missing the ASUC meeting on 2/5/2014, copy attached.

MCLEAN/CATON CARRIED, (4-0-0)

2. It was moved and seconded to approve the request for an excused absence from Sean Guardian for missing the ASJAC meeting on 1/29/14, copy attached.

CATON/MCLEAN FAILED, (1-3-0)

C. Elections Committee Minutes, 1/31/14: It was moved and seconded to approve the Elections Committee minutes, 1/31/14 as attached.
