JUDICIAL AFFAIRS COUNCIL MINUTES

Wednesday, January 29, 2014 – 9:00 am

Council Chambers • Aztec Student Union

 

I. CALL TO ORDER

A.S. Justice and JAC Vice Chair Alex Johnstone called the meeting to order at 9:03 am in the Council Chambers at the Aztec Student Union.

II. ROLL CALL

A. Voting Members Present: Kiana Caton, Tyler French, Alex Johnstone, Abby Kim, Maneet Deol, Dillon McLean.

B. Voting Members Absent: Sean Guardian.

C. Non-Voting Members Present: Jennifer Esquivel-Parker.

D. Non-Voting Members Absent: Lee Mintz.

E. Visitors Present: None.

III. APPROVAL OF AGENDA

It was moved and seconded to approve the agenda for today’s meeting.

CATON/KIM

A friendly amendment was made to add Item C under Action as Approval of Election Committee minutes from 1/29/14.

The agenda was approved as amended.

IV. APPROVAL OF PREVIOUS MINUTES

It was moved and seconded to approve the minutes from the 12/4 meeting, as attached.

V. CHAIR’S REPORT:

None.

VI. INFORMATION:

A. JAC discussed remaining business from last semester, including ways to improve the processes of JAC this year and updating the JAC bylaws.

B. Reviewed information being presented at the A.S. Retreat this weekend.

VII. ACTION

A. Appointments and Resignations: It was moved and seconded to approve the appointments and resignations memo, as attached.

B. Requests for Excused Absences: It was moved and seconded to approve the request for an excused absence from Maneet Deol for missing the spring A.S. retreat on 2/01/14, copy attached and it was noted that he will be required to make-up the diversity workshop from the retreat.

FRENCH/MCLEAN CARRIED, (4-0-1)

1. It was moved and seconded to approve the request for an excused absence from Jacqueline Karczewski for missing the CLC meeting on 1/29/14, copy attached.

MCLEAN/FRENCH FAILED, (0-5-0)

2. It was moved and seconded to approve the request for an excused absence from Tyler French for missing the spring A.S. retreat on 2/01/14, copy attached. It will count as a ½ excused absence.

DEOL/KIM CARRIED, (4-0-1)

3. It was moved and seconded to approve the request for an excused absence from Tyler French for missing the JAC meeting on 2/05/14, copy attached.

CATON/DEOL CARRIED, (4-0-1)

4. It was moved and seconded to approve the request for an excused absence from Grace Diaz for missing the spring A.S. retreat on 2/01/14, copy attached and it was noted that she will be required to make-up the diversity workshop from the retreat.

5. Elections Committee Minutes, 1/24/14: It was moved and seconded to approve the Elections Committee minutes, 1/24/14 as attached.
